Games where the ps2 version is better than the xbox one

It's a generally accepted fact that when a game is released on multiple systems, it is usually the xbox version that is the best. But, this is not always the case. Sometimes, the ps2 version is better. Some examples (not including pre - 2005 EA sports releases, which are just too obvious if you want to play online, and are not the best on ps2 if you don't or can't play online). Here is what I can think of:

Definite
Spy Hunter - XBox version too dark and harder to see, among other problems.

SSX Tricky - fewer shoulder buttons means fewer moves on XBox.

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 - XBox version was handled by a different developer, and not only looked inferior, but the sense of speed was far below the ps2 version.

MGS2 Substance - While the extra modes may have been worth putting up with the slowdown and frame rate inconsistancies, the release of this version on the ps2 made these problems harder to swallow. The only advantage the xbox version now has is that it is often much cheaper.

Silent Hill 2 - Like MGS2 Substance, the XBox had an extra playable character and more content, but the Greatest Hits re-release on ps2 left no reason to put up with the slowdown.

Possibly
SSX 3, NBA Street Vol. 2, any Tony Hawk, and lots of others - One reason - the ps2 controller. It's the best controller on the market, and, though the ps2 versions may not look as good as the XBox versions, the better controller makes up for this.

well generally i would purshase any game for xbox over ps2. the only exception i ever made was thug which had online and the face import feature.

95% every other cross platform game always plays best on xbox. i usually read the head to heads at ign to be sure. but ps2 is usually the last system id purchase it for. usually way longer load times and worse graphics and slowdown

i am first off a hater of the ps2 controller so the ps2 controller is better does nothing for me. i personally loved "duke"

i also hate EA, if you notice most of the games in your list are devopled by EA, they are a very bias company towards PS2.

here's a maybe for the list,

Splinter Cell, since your trowing the grphics out the window in the first post, the extra level and your beloved ps2 controller make it worth it, for some, for me xbox version kills ps2 version and esp gamecube version

I agree on the SSX games, the PS2 controller is better to use for those games instead of the Xbox controller, but of course the Xbox graphics are still superior.

I have to agree the main thing that helps the PS2 is the controller and games developed first for PS2 that get ported to Xbox.

SSX usually gets better marks on PS2 just because of the way it was designed to use the natural set of of the controller, whether you like the Dualshock or not, thats what it works best on.

I always heard bad things about the NFS ports EA was simply unwilling to do the port themselves and handing it off to a another team is bound to take something from it. EA has for a long time hated LIVE and thus has an obvious lean towards favoring the PS2. I actually saw the xbox MGS2 and during the first scenes I kept wondering "why is it stuttering so much?" the answer is because it was never optimized for the box and the result is a weaker looking game.

Silent Hill 2 on XBOX has slowdown ... ? I have both the PS2 and XBOX and I haven't had any problems.

I think the only times the PS2 has the advantage were the older EA Games and only because of online support. Otherwise I have played most of them that were ported from PS2 => XBOX and I always thought the XBOX one was much smoother *shrugs*.

Well as far as NFS HP2 went it was just as crappy on the cube, playing the game on the ps2 was like a slap to the face, night and day differences.

EA sucks because of their choice of music in their games. I've been (involuntarily) listening to The F Ups - Lazy Generation (from Burnout 3) and Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out (from Madden 2005) at work because we have those games on demo. It's really awful. The rest of Burnout 3's soundtrack is decent, though.... threw in some Eighteen Visions, that was a welcome addition. Madden's soundtrack is awful, though. It's like they throw the most mainstream and faceless music in to their games just because those are the ones that make the most money, not the ones that sound better.

EA fucking sucks... too bad their sports games are (mostly) superior.
How bout the 2d fighters. i think they're much better on the ps2 because of the controller
Agreed.

if you think the music is bad in those games don't try Day of Reckoning. The music in that is terrible.

to stay on topic, the fact that you can use a mouse and keyboard for PS2 games IMO is more important than better graphics and sound.

I personally thought the PS2 version of ESPN NBA 2k4 was better on the PS2 than Xbox. The Xbox version seems to control a little stiffer.

Agreed. I have both versions and never noticed a single hint of slowdown. Maybe he had the DVD spooling issue that is known to cause jerkiness in games like that (I had that problem with that very game, until I sent it away for a tune up. Worked like a charm after that.)

Anyway, Dynasty Warriors 4 had SERIOUS slowdown issues compared to the PS2 version (especially when there was fire). Even when there weren't any people on the screen it'd bog occasionally. In that case, the PS2 version was better. But it was more than made up for with the release of Samurai Warriors which not only smoothed that problem out, but gave it a rock solid framerate across the board AND added another 15 or so characters to the screen making pop up characters nearly undetectable.

I-Ninja is reportedly better on the PS2 with some slowdown on the Xbox version, as well.

At least it beats the generic rock crap that was in Smackdown: HCTP.

(I'll admit I like Breaking Benjamin, though.)

Well I for one would rather have an arcade stick and online play then a ps2 controller. Why fighting fans would settle for anything but a stick is beyond me.

Agreed'd. The shooting (both free throw shooting and jump) seemed to be a bit easier on PS2 as well. It's probably personal preference, but the games I've played against friends on PS2 were a bit more high scoring than on XBox.

I agree with brucelee about 2D fighters too. I got used to playing MvC2 on Xbox, but then I started playing SF2 on SNES again... the SNES controller is absolute perfection, with PS2 controller coming in a close second. When the anniversary collection comes out I think I'm going to buy the PSX to Xbox controller adapter because I have some PSX controllers lying around.

Atleast they added the custom soundtracts feature to the XBOX one + XBOX LIVE makes any game better, doesnt even compare to sony online.

I've gotta say every 2D fighting game and all the Tony Hawk (or similar style) games.

The PS2 controller simply owns in terms of precision for these games.

what are you talking about. the music in day of reckoning is awesome..nice change for once. the songs are awesome for entrances and background music.

Well for me I really don't have a setup where it is comfortable to use a stick. I play my games while sitting on my bed and the pad just seems more comfortable. I am too used to standing up for using arcade sticks.
LOTR: Return of the King has online capabilities on the PS2, where the Xbox does not.
What kind of capabilities? I've got all the consoles so I'm unbiased here, I just want the best version. I was about to blindly pick that up for Xbox, but I'll consider the PS2 version if there's a distinct advantage.

BTW, I got Two Towers for Xbox but I haven't opened it yet. Is it really supposed to be better on PS2? Someone ealier in the thread said that it was.
The PS2 version of ROTK has Cooperative Online play mode
Ah, thanks. For that type of game I think I'd rather just have a friend in the room anyway. I may go ahead with the Xbox version then (which, I'm assuming, will have prettier graphics and all that). Online or not, it supports only 2 players, right?

Eighteen Visions? They suck ass! You obviously have awful taste in music yourself.

^^

Just out of curiosity, why did you bump a old dead thread from 2004? And especially in a pretty much dead section of the Sony forum.

I check it to see if I need to reply to anyone in the GH section and occasionally the guys talk about what games they're playing, and other odds and ends, but don't bump the old threads unless there is some relevance to it.
