Gamestop calls me to offer me a trade-in deal for my Kingdom Hearts 2

So... the phone rang, I didn't know who it was so I threw it to my girlfriend to answer, she heard it was Gamestop and told me this is what they wanted:

"Hi, this is Aeris, from Gamestop, we have a special offer from your previous order, if you trade in Kingdom Hearts 2 by Thursday, May 25th, you'll receive $35 in trade-in credit!" at which point she hung up.

I mean, I can see them calling me for pre-orders, but now they are using that number to solicit trade-in deals from me? What's next, a Gamestop employee calling me personally?

"Hey, this is Steve, remember me, from Gamestop, just wanted to let you know to bring your trade-in's next time, ok, peace out".

Has anyone else got this strange call for Kingdom Hearts 2?

I did....and right after I traded in my extra copy for $30 yesterday....*whimper*

Should I really worry about that extra $5...? What to do, what to do...:bomb:

Yea, that was the area code and #, I had no clue who it was... she told me it was Gamestop, I'm like "I have nothing preordered" and she told me what they were saying.

I'm glad they only have my cell phone number, because, personally, I think that's a little out of hand, and is right up there with telemarketing.

Funny you say that. When I used to work there, we'd occasionally have to do "follow-up" calls where we'd pick a few people randomly from the entries in the trade logs to call and ask the person how their experience in the store was.

Not only was it a waste of both mine and the customer's time, but it rarely even resulted in the kind of information the call was tailored to get. More often than not, it had been several weeks since the customer had come into the store, and they often couldn't really even remember whether or not they were "satisfied" with their shopping experience.

Heh, that's my area code, which means the calls are definitely coming from GameStop Corporate.

XD!!!

I just had a Local Car place call me to buy my Car off of me. They said it was in high demand and they needed one. I found it werid also.

The best part is, I cancelled my Kingdom Hearts 2 preorder and got it at Circuit City $10 cheaper the very next week.

So... how legal is this, exactly? I mean, I didn't authorize Gamestop to start calling me with their trade-in crap, and they pulled my # off a pre-order that was ONLY supposed to be for the pre-order, or so I thought.

I just don't want to start getting bombarded with calls for games I preordered, because even though I don't preorder alot, I'll start preordering 0 from there if this is how it's going to be.

Yea, stick with Gamerush, their pre-orders are more reliable.
Can they legally do this? I would have a talk with the distric manager about this.
It's no different from any other automated phone soliciting. It should be illegal, but it isn't.

Yes, because the do not call list does not include calls from buisnesses you have dealt with in the past 2 months I think it is.

Besides it was probably also covered somewhere in the preorder slip he signed.

I haven't pre-ordered anything from Gamestop in 1 1/2 years (and the last time was only because of a trade in DVD deal), but if this becomes the norm with pre-ordering, I'll even be less inclined to pre-order anything from them ever.

Yeah, thats true, but also I don't know if the law applies everywhere, but telemarketers aren't allowed to call cell phones, because you are paying for the minutes that they are using to try to sell you something with.

If I were you, I'd just ignore it unless they continue to do it. But that's also kinda creepy that they had Aeris call you...

It would be a great marketing plot if they had a cosplayer in store to meet all the fanboys and have a photo taken with her if they traded the game.

Didn't anybody notice who he got the call from? Aeris! It's just like that Michael Keaton movie "White Noise". She's communicating from beyond the grave! Block the number. This is teh creepies!!!!! Someone get Scooby-Doo or Ghostbusters on the case! I'll be hiding under the bed...8-[

Ive just about had it with gamestop. Its bad enough they ask me right when i set foot inside if i brought my trades, which i never, ever, ever do, seeing as i walk in with nothing in my hands. then i go to pick up New super mario brothers, and the cashier asks if i want to buy the strategy guide too.

me : no
guy: you sure, its cheaper now than later!
me: no im ok, i dont want it.
guy: its cheaper!
me: ....wow
Guy: cmon!
me : you fail at life

I have to put up with that crap when i go to GS because its close to me and gas is expensive, but now i get F$%in phone calls from these pricks at home, when im relaxing just so they can continue to pester me about my fucking trades? Jesus H fucking Christ......

I actually got this call about 2 weeks ago. I didnt even pick up my preorder and cancelled it. But still got the call. When I managed an EB they wanted the stores to sometimes call people and tell tehm about trade in offers. Now that GS/EB are the same they took GS's automated way. I hope they dont do this often though because it is annoying.

I got a call from our internet provider awhile ago..I forget what he was supposed to be talking to me about, but we got into a conversation about how to make a good Resident Evil: Outbreak game...after 40 minutes he said he had to go or he'd get fired
"Hey, this is Steve, remember me, from Gamestop, just wanted to let you know to bring your trade-in's next time, ok, peace out".
What's really sad.. is that we used to do that. If someone had not yet picked up their pre-order 3 months from the date of release, we would call them and give them suggestions to transfer that pre-order over to another game. Of course we then mentioned "And bring your trades - you'll get the game for free!"

The store made out b/c pre-order numbers meant something, and the customer made out b/c they probably forgot about their reserve or never had time to pick it up, and we reminded them they had credit available.

Next time just ask him how 11.99($16.99-$5 for buying then) is cheaper than $0.01 six months from now.

Back to topic, I received the call today as well. Its the same girl thats been calling every time, but im not sure if she said her name is aeris.

What's funny is that right inside the box for NSMB is a leaflet for Nintendo Power which offers the strategy guide free with a 1 year subscription for $19.99. SCORE! :D

GameStop continues to fuck up, people continue to shop there.

What else is new?

"Hey, this me, Cloud. I hope you liked my movie. Be sure to preorder my pal Vincent's game, Dirge of Cerberus, coming out later this year. Peace."

wow don't you feel special? I'm suprised they call you to give you a quote on it as they're lazy mofos that are lazy to check trade in prices if you ask them for how much on the phone.

Um... it wasn't an actual person, it was Aeris, the weird computer autonomous preorder girl.

Lemme get this straight...

You purchased KH2 from GameStop and then later received an automated call from them telling you about a trade-in promotion for it?

Very interesting...

Did you purchase it from GameStop.com or a B&M store?

Like Madskillz, I cancelled my preorder from Gamestop B&M as well, I never even bought the game there... as far as Gamestop knows, I don't even own the game, my preorder was never fulfilled.

When I made this thread, I got the call from Aeris (automated, same as the preorder stuff) letting me know about this great trade-in deal.

I see, but they had your phone number in their system as someone who pre-ordered KH2. They probably don't have anyway of recording in their system whether you actually picked up the game or not and just assumed you did.

When you give them your phone # in relation to a pre-order, you will get the call EVEN IF YOU CANCEL IT.

EB/Gamestop has been using pre-order phone #'s to cold call for years. I suppose this is just the next logical extension.

Another reason you should NEVER GIVE THEM ANY BUSINESS.

I got the same call, and so did my cousin.

Damn you gamestop, with your trickery that is automated voice calling!

I was so excited Aeris was back...

EB emplyees by me before the merger did this once and a while but not often at all. Now with the automated stuff this can get really annoying.
Yes, because the do not call list does not include calls from buisnesses you have dealt with in the past 2 months I think it is.
It's worse than you think; any business you have dealt with can call you for 18 months after your last activity with them, even if you're on the federal do-not-call registry.

I've said it in another thread, but one day I traded in a few controllers to GS. Later on that evening, I get a phone call asking if my trade-in experience was what I had expected. Um, what? Aside from getting reamed ($3 on controllers I got for free :D) on the value. That phone call did nothing more than sour the previously acceptable trade-in experience. Even worse, they called me during dinner.

They called me this morning when I must have been in the shower. SO they left the delightful message. I had the same experience as the OP when I canceled my pre-order and went to CC to buy it for $40.

WTF! It seems like everyone is starting to have bad experiences with Gamestop/EB. I have seriously grown to hate the bastards over the past few weeks with their excessive force of trying to get me to preorder stuff. They argued with me the other day by trying to get me to preorder Mario for DS. I told them that CC had it for 27.99 and they were like "no they don't!" So sunday I took the ad in there and showed the idiots (same people) and they just couldn't accept the fact. It was funny because I actually talked a couple of people out of buying the game in the store and going to CC to buy it. Whatever I can do to help :)

Good. We don't like you buying new products anyway.

I think you mean "We prefer you buy used items over new items because we get more money."

Ya know, I'd actually go buy AC right now if I could get that on our answering machine. (It'd be like the time Hulk Hogan told us to watch Wrestlemania on pay-per-view, brother!)

LMAO. Do you even have to give them a legitimate phone number when you preorder? I know there are fraud laws when you do trade-ins some places, but why give them a real number for preorders?
