Valid Promotional Codes (as of 4/3):

VSHIP - Free value shipping on orders of $24.99 or more. Offer excludes game consoles. Expires 4/30 - Doesn't seem to stack with PUR and CAG16 at the same time. This is the successor to the now defunct SAVER code. Not valid on preorders.
CAG16 - 16% off all in-stock used games & dvds. Online only. Other restrictions may apply - Will usually stack with Edge 10% discount for a total of 26% in savings on pre-owned games. Supposedly does not work with PUR.
FREESHIPORDER20 - Free value shipping on in-stock game orders of $20 or more. Continental US only. While supplies last. Not valid with other offers or bundles. Expires 6/5/11 - does not seem to stack with CAG16. Will work with PUR discount.
15SAVE Receive 15% off the purchase of in-stock Xbox 360 or PS3 games totaling $79.99 or more after PUR discount. Offer excludes consoles and DLC. Expires 5/15/11. Stacks with PUR 10% off for 25% off (roughly). Games can be New or Preowned.


Other Offers

PUR/Edge Discount - If you have a qualifying Gamestop/EBgames card which gets you 10% off in store on used products, you can use the same card online to receive a similar discount. Unfortunately, this doesn't always stack neatly with promos and can sometimes be a pain in the ass. There is a section specifically to input your card number on the cart page.
Free Shipping - In-stock items only. Consoles and downloads not included. Online only - Supposedly applies automatically when you have two qualifying products in your cart. Fine print says it can't be stacked with other offers, but who knows. This is value shipping, thus pretty much identical to VSHIP.

Recently Expired Codes

SAVER - Pretty much identical to VSHIP but stacked with CAG16 perfectly.
20PRE - Was 4% better than CAG16.
10FREE - This was a 10 from 80 code with free shipping.

FAQ

Q) A code you say is valid isn't working or stacking with other promos as it's supposed to.
A) Read the error you're getting. If it says the code isn't valid it either is no longer valid or you entered it wrong. If it says that it can't be applied on that order read the fine print and make sure you're using it right. If you didn't make a mistake with either of those steps, try adding it and other promos in various orders (and with varying amounts of items in your cart, adding the rest later). Sometimes you have to jury rig it, Gamestop's promo system is notoriously screwy.

Q) I have a 10/20 dollar off unique promo code from a previous purchase that no longer works, but according to the expiration date it should.
A) Gamestop shut down almost all of those promotion codes after a couple of them were found to be buggy and have unlimited uses (they're intended to be a 1 time thing). Very few, if any, are still functional. Some people have had success in having the codes honored after talking with customer support. Typically if you arrange it in advance they'll take the code from you by email after you've placed your order then retroactively give you the discount. Don't hold me to this though, you'll have to go through customer support so it's YMMV.

Q) Will my pre-owned games bought online from Gamestop/EBgames come with a proper instruction booklet and case?
A) Maybe, but don't count on it. The quality of the discs is reportedly lower than in-store merchandise as well. Some people have gotten around this issue by bringing them to their local Gamestop and convincing the management to swap out for different discs and/or cases. This is also YMMV.

Q) Can I use in-store credit online?
A) Yes, easily. You will need the card number and its pin (which is concealed via a scratch off barrier on the back). Please keep in mind however that you will be charged sales tax for online purchases made with store credit even if Gamestop doesn't tax in-store credit purchases in your state.

Q) These deals suck. Gamestop sucks. I remember when they used to have good promos. So on and so forth, etc.
A) Yup.

I have an edge card that expired 3 months ago, it still works with promo codes. That is some real incentive to upgrade to pur.
 
sucks about saver but cag16 still works for me but replaces my edge card. makes the edge card lose all appeal it had.
 
SAVER does appear to be dead, but there's a code for free value shipping on orders over $24.99 that's good through 3/31. Try VSHIP. It won't stack with my last $10 off coupon though, so that's pretty lame. Paying tax AND shipping almost negates the entire $10 off.

Yeah, most coupons don't stack anymore. Hell, PUR doesn't stack and calling that a "coupon" is bullshit. It's an exclusive member benefit that we pay an annual fee for. But apparently, this is the business direction Gamestop wants to go in.

VSHIP doesn't appear to work with preorders unfortunately.
 
I've noticed over the last few newsletters they've stopped including codes for free overnight/release day delivery for pre-orders. That was my favorite thing!

Hmm i just pre ordered the epic edition with this code, but it says not valid with special editions. Is it not supposed to work? Im just worried about them canceling my order on me.

That is a good point. I just pre-ordered the MK Kollectors edition, and even though it gave me the $10 off, I wonder if GS will honor it at the time they charge me...
 
I get to the final checkout page and it says pre10 not valid. So that along with PUR not combining with cag16 or saver means GS will be getting less business from me this year. Also means that next B2G1 sale we won't get 10% off as well. Guess I'll just take my chances with ebay from now on.
 
I am so disappointed with GS. Given that we have stores like KMart (new games) and goHastings/glyde (used games), I would probably stop giving anymore business to GS. Their price isn't that great, their service isn't uo to the standard I am looking for.

Now they stopped all these coupons, I probably ask for refund for my PUR.

Yeah, unless Gamestop is about to go under (yeah right), they're totally screwing themselves with these moves. They may see it as increasing profits, but that won't be the case if they bring in less sales. You were already taking a flier ordering anything used from Gamestop, but it was usually worth the risk due to discounts, free shipping, etc. With most of that gone, there's literally no incentive anymore. The competition is cheaper AND I know what I'm getting.
 
I had 14 of those $10 off your next order codes from last year left over. All of them stopped working on the site. I emailed GS and we have been corresponding back and forth as they send me incompetent, irrelevant form replies and I respond with increasing frustration. I told them they have one more chance to fix this before I escalate to my credit card company and local consumer protection agencies. Anyone else contact them about bum codes? What was the outcome?
 
I had a number of the $10 and $20 codes. About a month or so after they stopped working (maybe in the fall?), I contacted gamestop (by email) and they told me to place the order and then email them with my code.
And this worked, even though it was kind of a hassle.

I had a similar issue. You will need to do what the poster below you stated. You need to purchase the item with the code (even if it doesn't work) and then email them. They will refund the $ back to you. I did this about 3 times. Its a pain in the :booty:, but it does work.
 
Thanks for the input. That's what they told me in their first email. Maybe I'm being unreasonable, but I don't think we should have to do that. It puts all the burden on us just because their site is glitching out. If you have 14 like I do, you have to monitor each refund to make sure you receive it. I did follow this procedure for the first 3 codes, but after they completely forgot about 1 of them, I decided this is just moronic and they need to issue new codes or find some other fix that doesn't make us jump through hoops.

I can understand why they are doing this now. Last year several of the $10 codes from the UFC were not working. if you called and complained, Game stop simply gave you a new code. That information leaked and people were posting it all over the forums. Evidently, some people took advantage of this and used the same code several times, without Game stop even knowing and exchanging it for a new code. They eventually caught on and began the new process.
(I was told this by a manager). I too was frustrated after the second time and demanded an answer as to why they couldn't just give me a new code.

How did you get 14 of those $10 codes in the first place and why did you wait all this time to use them? I think you're going to have a hard time getting your credit card company or a consumer protection agency to do anything. There was exclusion language in the coupon language that allowed Gamestop to cancel them at any time and those original charges are long past the dispute cut-off date.

I'm at the age now where a lot of my friends' kids are starting to play video games, so I bought a lot as presents during the promotion and ended up with close to 30 legitimate codes. I didn't wait to use them - I used about half, but didn't think there was a rush to use them all since they don't expire until 2012 or 2013 (depending on the code).

I'm not somebody that complains to a company every time things don't go my way (and xscorpionx's response below yours does provide a reasonable explanation of why this is happening), but when I spend easily a couple thousand per year at a business, I do expect more than a form reply. I see your points but I'm confident that I could get my credit card company to help me - my job involves convincing people to do things - but I don't want to escalate if I don't have to. Hopefully GameStop will respond. It seems wrong that the people who abused codes and used them several times got away with it and good customers are effectively being punished for it. Oh well, we'll see.

same thing, the shipping ruins this deal, anyone know what the best price for Portal 2 is? I want the PC version but don't necessarily need it by release day (I won't be able to play it until like 2 weeks after because of college). Anyone know what my best price for it will be?

Well right now you can buy a 2-pack for $80 directly from Steam, so you can split the cost with someone so it'll be $40 for each person.

Valve games tend to go down pretty fast and maintain a reasonable price as I've seen. For example, I've bought both Left 4 Dead's for $30 a couple of months/weeks after launch, and it maintained that price at certain places for a while.

The code doesn't work on Crysis 2, and it is also not available for store pick-up.

Could try holding out for a store that has it a few days after. GS isn't really the place to look for for amazing deals on new releases.

Try Wal-mart or Amazon.
 
Kmart has this deal on Crysis 2 seems to be one of the better deals out there.

Cag16 is gone.... well damn.

Someone said that it was because they saw this cheapassgamer (i got that from like page 30 of this thread); think this is their way of getting back at the space chimps fiasco.

i only bought from them when they had a used item on sale and i could stack edge and cag16, so i might actually start buying new again, and if I'm buying new it probable wont be from them.
