Yep bought a 3dsxl today and both of the games they gave me were gutted in the yellow cd paper holders with a new sticker on them. Then they also couldn't find the case for them. Pretty much reminded me why I never go to GS
 
I mean....call me crazy, but what stops you from saying you want a sealed copy of the game instead of them trying to hand you an opened 'new' copy? You always have the option to refuse to buy it as new. Not trying to be a dick or anything, I've never had it happen to me, but I'd just tell them I wanted a sealed copy or that I'd go elsewhere for it. In the end a lot of the times gamestop knows they have you by the balls if you have the trade credit, but with BB offering trades now they aren't the only game in town.

Because it's a terrible business practice. No other company out there tries to sell you opened possibly incomplete items as "new".

You're crazy. Xenoblade Chronicles is sold out in four of the GameStop I've been to, except this one. They said they have one brand new copy. Did you know what I saw? He grabs the disc and puts it inside a game case on DISPLAY RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND SAY IT'S BRAND NEW! I told him it's not seal and he said it's new. Now I have to take my chance on GameStop's website, which I'm assuming they will send me a gutted copy.
 
I'm not trying to defend them, I don't really care in the end, but you always have the right to refuse to buy it from GS. I know that they open some of the copies to put out for display purposes, seems the more logical thing would be to give you a used price on any of the opened ones if they are selling you the display copy. That at least guarantees you a little discount on it.

Tbh thats how it wrks at gamestop sometimes they have sealed copies (i always get then lol). But they always have the new games in the sleeves ready to be put in the case.
 
shit did I make a mistake? I traded in 2 copies of killzones trilogy and only got $42 total at best buy while I could have got $50 at GS. $8 difference, now that's huge but gamestop prices are way overpriced so bestbuy credit is still better right?

I could understand if its a brand new game you preordered and it was gutted, then yeah I'd mention it. But otherwise, its how they display shit. If they only have 1 copy, they have to display the case. If the disc is pristine I wouldn't care

I have a huge backlog over 100+, so I'm not going to open it anytime soon to play it, who knows I may end up selling it one day.
I'm just iffy about other people's hand touching all the cases, but the thing is, it was not the white cases, it was the black promotional cases (which are on display for newer games).

I called my GameStop trying to find a copy of Walking Dead on the 360 because I knew I was trading games in today and wanted to buy something. They told me they had one copy and held it for me. I got there, traded in my games and used my credit on walking dead and a couple points cards.

I didn't realize until I got home that my copy of walking dead wasn't sealed and was the off the shelf copy. They had it all bagged up and ready for me before I paid because they knew I was coming.

I'm not really really pissed cuz I knew I was gonna play it, but that's really not new.... And I don't know if there is anything extra missing from inside the box.

Idk if I wanna call them and bitch or what? They shouldn't be able to charge full price for that...

I purchased halo 4 used from gamestop, never opened the case, took it back for trade in and got a refurbished fee tacked on to it

if ur artsy u can just make custom case/cover art. the best is cover art that looks like kids drew it/ wrote the title.

Traded a few games from BF that I beat for what I paid for them and then some extra for the gas/hassle. Not a bad way to play games for free, or get paid for playing.

Well I sure hope I don't have any issues. I just think it's bullshit to sell me an opened game as new, and charge me full price. I know the game is fine, but knowing that I will get the SAME thing from AWD for $22 I can't keep the GameStop copy. If I would have seen the copy opened when I paid I probably would have refused it.

If they require a game to be unopened and a receipt to return it you can't sell an opened game as "new".

I hate BS like that and Dbag employees that go out of their way to find something wrong with a disc.

Same thing Happened to me with Time Crisis Razing Storm. Bought it used from them for move but never played, employee tried to tack a fee on....I said give me my game and walked out took it to the other GS down the road and traded it in no problem.

In my experience employees that do these acts are new recently hired ones. I try to stay away from those
 
I just want to thank everyone who posted here because I would have had no idea about this sale. I traded for the first time in about 3 years at Gamestop (some extra games I had gotten really cheap over the last year) and ended up with about $150 in credit. I picked up a bunch of iTunes gift cards and enough Wii U / 3DS Cards to get Just Dance 4 for Wii U (digitally) and most of Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Really appreciate it guys :).

Im pretty sure last time only Mass Effect 3 lost value during the promotion. Not sure why people think a ton of games lost their value last time.

Here's another nice little service they add (or at least they previously did) to their "new" games; the employees can take them home to play and bring them back to sell as new....

While that wouldn't surprise me, I'm pretty sure they are only allowed to do that with the used games. Although there are probably some employees that take home the gutted copies.
 
After my fiasco earlier this year trying to get a "new" copy of Dirt 3 CE and continually being given open copies w/ the standard edition disk, I swore never to buy another opened "new" game from GS again. I almost never buy new from them now period - I'm making an exception for Ni No Kuni since they're the only place you can get the steel book, but otherwise I'd much rather buy new from BB anyway so I can take advantage of the 2-month price match period.

But yeah, they've been doing it forever and they aren't about to stop because 95% of their customers simply don't care. Only thing you can do is just shop someplace else.

But yeah, they've been doing it forever and they aren't about to stop because 95% of their customers simply don't care. Only thing you can do is just shop someplace else.

Dunno, but I'm sure if you buy a sealed copy of it it is the actual CE. I did a ton of research online, and couldn't find any proof of anyone having that issue after buying a sealed copy of the game.
