$20 for Portal 2? $25 for Sly Cooper collection? $15 for Bully? The FIRST Assassin's Creed on PS3 is getting $15?! What year is this?!

Proof since some people doubt what I say :)cry:)

As I don't trade games into Gamestop I have another noob questions.

Is your purchase/trade history universally available at any Gamestop location? Or can their computer see your purchase/trade history for any store at any time?

If your asking this because of the per trade limit at the store, yes they can see what you traded in but if you want to cover your ass just have your receipts with you. I don't think they check what you previously traded in but it may throw some redflags further up the ladder but nothing to really worry about.
If so, you better do the smart thing and NOT trade them in to GS.

Do you know how much you can get for those sealed copys on ebay ? DO NOT TRADE THEM IN !!!!!

wow, buy me a copy then. That game is hard to come by and is way too expensive. Wonder why they never made a #3?

You have got to be kidding a new copy of that is worth 100+.

Ooo... Thanks for the tip! Someone mentioned a game, yesterday, that they say they saw at TRU. I checked eBay and it goes for $120-$190! :hot:

I have found some gems in TRU before.

Looks like I'll be on the hunt for 2 games!:D
Wow, thanks would of never known. Guess I,m in for 9 of them then when I get money.

No I mean I have a used and new (sealed) copy of Portal 2 along with RDR GOTY because of having previously owned it and buying it during black Friday.

To avoid complications I'd rather not trade all four games (two duplicates) in at the same time. But I have two gamestop stores right next door to each other (about a block away).

I'd rather trade two in at one store and two at the other but not if at the second store they're going to see that 10 minutes earlier I had just traded the same games in.

This also gives me an opportunity to see if either store has any clearance CE's
well gamestop is losing money and closing 200 stores

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-11-15/gamestop-plans-to-close-200-money-losing-u-s-outlets.html

i don't care if they go under since this lady told me about a review i posted and said i can't come back in that store ..i guess we can't post bad reviews now
GameStop is not losing money and the stores that are closing are underperformers. Actually GameStop is opening "GameStop Kids" stores around the country. You have a very narrow minded view of how competition is good for everyone.
so how are people price matching kmart's 9.99 price of portal 2? it isn't in the ad and is not online (that i have seen).
You can try Target and BB. I think Target requires a physical ad? Although they've been trying to pump up their new price match policy so I'm not sure if that means they'll look up the kmart circular ad online for you or not.

Has anybody PM'd to Target without a physical ad before?

Also, I assume trading in 3 games or more on the PUR list doesn't automatically trigger the 3/$10 promo now.

I always figured that Gamestop was pulling a "Lowe's tactic" where they would set up shops everywhere in an attempt to close down competition (i.e. Ma and Pa stores) and once they had a firm hold of the market they would close down some of the stores that weren't necessary like those that didn't perform well or were in very close proximity to one another.

I hate gamestop as much as the next person but they are very good at getting people to overpay for games

You only get the 10% bonus on the normal TIV, not the extra bonus price. So only 1.50 extra for NCAA at 15+15 bonus. At least thats how mine rang up today.

Correct.

So to get these TIVs, all I would have to do is walk in with the games and trade them in? Or do I have to show that I'm a Rewards Member somehow for the TIVs to register?

Again, for the millionth time you need to be PUR member , doesn't have to be the pro one. The basic free membership. You can just sign up b4 you trade.

I understand that, and I am PUR member. All I'm asking is how the triggering of the values works. For instance, if I don't give them the card upfront right away I would assume that the increased values wouldn't get shown, since they're exclusive PUR bumps.

Yeah, it triggers after you give them your card, most of them dont know about the promotion maybe they do now cuhs they were blabbering about the trade towards pre-owned , i just let them talk then bam after the annoyance w/ the gs employee it showed up the increased value
Does BB honor PMing on multiples of the same game? I'm not talking a lot, just maybe 2.
Shouldn't be a problem.

This, I just ask the guy to go to the final checkout screen then give me values since I already know the bases

I discovered that my local blockbuster had Just Dance 3 for the wii for $10 and madden 12 for the wii also for $10. So i bought 2 copies of just dance and the last copy of madden and took them to gamestop to trade. Tried to go back to blockbuster to buy more and was informed by the guy working there that he couldn't sell me anymore copies of just dance because there is a limit of 2 copies per customer. Tried calling corporate and they said there is no such policy but there was nothing that they could do.

Hit up a K-Mart but no Portal 2's for either system. All the Blockbusters near me are closed. Figure I'll just do AC3, Black Ops 2, SSBB, and 2K13. Need to figure out if I should spend points on that 50% coupon for FarCry 3 or if I'll just get some pre-owned game since there's a 50% extra toward purchase of a pre-owned running. Not sure how much longer that lasts though.

Walk up to register
Hand employee your PUR card
Hand them your games to trade
Profit

These higher values don't show up in the register unless a PowerUp account is active for the transaction.

1. GamesStop does not try to compete with local Ma and Pa stores. Their competition is Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Amazon.

2. Supply and demand? If you had a store wouldn't you want people to pay as much as possible? GameStop is a for profit company just like any other store.

Sounds like someone needs a fake mustache!

EDIT: Traded in 9 games for a total of $220. Thanks GameStop!
Black Friday I was at my local best buy at around 3am. I watched a guy with a small hand basket standing in the aisle, grabbing games by the handful like he was on Supermarket Sweep. I confronted him asking what the hell he was doing... he tells me he owns a pawn shop/game store and the BF prices at best buy are better than his cost so he drove to every BB in my area and bought up EVERY copy of their games on sale.

That's exactly what people are doing here today with Portal 2. Screwing dozens of people out of a game on sale to make a few bucks.
I agree 100%. I hate hoarders like this that only think about making a quick buck.
First come first serve
I am pretty sure that's not what Best Buy will say and I don't think they want customers like this one.
I'm pretty sure that most people that legitimately wanted the game for $10 would have gotten it by now - they had the entire week to do so.
How do you know? There are casual gamers that may want to jump on a deal when they see it on the store and don't read the weekly ad.
All of the portal 2 copys i brought were on the shelf the whole week so nobody seemed to want them. I just did kmart a favor and cleared them out for them.
You are not doing K-Mart any favors
Welcome to Capitalism. If you can buy something somewhere at X and resell it for Y, then you're certainly entitled to do that. The guy was being a smart businessman.
That is capitalism but... I am pretty confident that Best Buy doesn't want one person to buy their entire stock of games. This is not fucking Costco where you can buy in bulk. If you used your brain you would think how hoarders negatively impact Best Buy.

If I were to go show up 5 minutes later and then the game is sold out, I would walk out the store and run to Wal-Mart or somewhere else to find it. Assume, the hoarder didn't clean the games and I bought a copy, then I may stay and roam around the store and buy some more stuff. I just don't see how Best Buy benefits from one person buying the entire stock of one game. Just because you do this shit, doesn't mean it is ok.

Hoarding is hoarding, period. Spare me the bullshit of you snooze you lose.

I'm sure this has been asked a million times. But the kindle giftcards are the same as a regular amazon giftcard correct? You can use it to buy anything? (360 games, DVDs, lamps, cat food, ect?)
The only Kindle giftcards they have are the ones bundled with the new Kindle Fires for the promotion they are running.
Same here, couldn't find kindle gc on display in any of the 3 local GS stores. I asked one employee and sure enough, he says that they only have them for the promotion and has no idea if they will get more of them to sell or the batch they received for the promotion is the end of them. He also said that they may not get anymore kindles as well, if that matters to anyone. I do hope that they will carry kindle gc in the future though.

On another note, I finally got rid of my BBV credit that was hanging around for almost 9 months now and bough some copies of Madden 12 Wii, JD3 Wii and Alice for PS3. Also made use of the buy $25 BBV GC and get $5 extra to sweeten the deal. Mind you, one of the GS had no problem taking multiple copies ( the employee said how many copies the hell I want ) but took off a refurb fee of $3 each, for 2 copies. If any of you guys to get some games from BBV to trade in to GS, make sure to get good clean discs because the ones I got were really scratched to hell.( I couldn't argue about the refurb fee looking at all those scratches. )

Holy shit that 50% extra coupon (from power up )works with this offer? So I could trade portal in for 30$???

AFAIK, you can buy anything that is sold from Amazon, as long as the seller is amazon. I could be wrong and you may be able to use them with 3rd party sellers though.

I had the same question, so I looked it up on Amazon. they said,

"In addition to Kindle devices, books, and accessories, your gift card can be used to purchase other products on Amazon.com, but cannot be used to purchase Kindle subscriptions, such as magazines, newspapers, or blogs. "

I was trading in ~120 worth of stuff, so I wasn't going to make a scene over the couple of bucks I lost, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Edit: I suppose it could have been the employee messing with me to sell a pro account.
Holy shit that 50% extra coupon (from power up )works with this offer? So I could trade portal in for 30$???
Someone else confirm this? About to head out and I've got a huge stack of stuff and I'd like to get the max amount here.
I had the same question, so I looked it up on Amazon. they said,

"In addition to Kindle devices, books, and accessories, your gift card can be used to purchase other products on Amazon.com, but cannot be used to purchase Kindle subscriptions, such as magazines, newspapers, or blogs. "
AFAIK, you can buy anything that is sold from Amazon, as long as the seller is amazon. I could be wrong and you may be able to use them with 3rd party sellers though.
Alright, Thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure before I bought over $100 worth of them.

#truth

Maybe we should ask Scorch to add in his OP the FAQ's with Gamestop trades and the current promo. This thread gets too crazy to keep up with.

Think about that for a second. You just said the values didn't show up until your card was scanned. Obviously that has to happen regardless of it being a PRO or free membership for the offer to work. You can't just go in there and trade stuff in without the membership and expect those values.

Got my Wii-U last night for free from trading in my old games (more or less... in the grand scheme of things with all the math, not really free). Then today I ran and bought 5x copies of Just Dance 3 at blockbuster (I just smiled saying what a great gift they make at that price) and a copy of Rock Band 3 for the 360 ($5 after promo, traded for $15!). Then went to walmart and PM'd a Portal 2. Ran to a few GSs in the area and traded it all in, bought New Super Mario Wii-U, a $20 PSN card, and saved the $50 for a future use. HOORAY

He pretty much said what i was going to say but better.

My wife walked in with me, said "I want the free membership and to trade this Just Dance 3 and put it all on a giftcard". One transaction, she walks out with a $20 gift card. Anyone saying you have to have the PRO membership is wrong or being cheated.

That's not what said. He said the correct values didn't show up until they added the Pro membership to the transaction. Meaning they made him upgrade to Pro.

I had a membership, though. It just wasn't the pro membership. Sorry if that was unclear. I gave the clerk my email address, he found the account, and then scanned in the games.

He was all set to ring it up, when I asked him what the trade in values were. I balked at what I was being offered, and pulled up the website on my phone. He then asked his manager "Do you think these would show up with a pro account?", so they give it a shot, and the correct trade in values showed up.

So it has to be one of three things:
1) There was some miscommunication in how they were receiving their trade in values.
2) One needs to have a pro account to get the special trade in values
3) The clerk was trying to push a pro account on me when I didn't need one.

Given what folks have said, I doubt #2 is the case.

Yeah bro, after my gs entered my pur card it didnt show up until close to the final screen . If you waited longer it wouldve shown the special trade value. . . Or it couldve been 3 i dont see 1 or two being a issue.

I traded in Forza Horizon at the GS in Mission Valley, San Diego. The store manager is always there and he's a very nice and helpful dude but he never knows anything about special trade-in promos until the amount is shown. He is always surprised at how much money I get for games. I don't think many CAGs go there since it seems he always finds out about stuff when I take advantage of a promo.
