Gamestop takeover imminent?

I saw a MovieStop last year in Orlando, Fl. It was about...5 or 6 miles North of Universal Studios.

Also, there are 2 Gamestops within a half a mile where I live.
Seriously...who the fuck could afford them? They already own EB Games, Barnes and Nobel, and apparently whatever the hell MovieStop is.

I wonder if it could be Disney? :S
Actually, I believe Gamestop was spun off from Barnes & Noble.

I personally love GameStop, it's where I get most of my games. It seems a lot of CAG hates them tho. Maybe it's because they do the whole trade-in thing where they get screwed, I don't sell games. I hope they don't go out of business or get acquired, if they did the latter they'd probably change too much. I need me a game store, all the GameCrazy's are going out of business here and the Play N' Trades are too damn far away.

I love how pretty much every CAG hates Gamestop for their trade in policies......except when they can really take advantage of them, like all the people who ran out to get "free" games from Best Buy only to take them to Gamestop to trade it.

It is because of abuses like this that forces their normal trade in prices on 98% of games to be so low.

I don't hate GameStop. I did hate the fact that they gut new games. But since I quit buying new games from them years ago, I have nothing against them.

These so-called abuses only account for a miniscule number of total Gamestop trade in. They *might* make a tiny wobble in the grand scheme.

The reason their trade in prices are like they are is for three reasons.

1. Corporate Greed (and I can't blame them there - every company in the nation wants to make a bigger buck)

2. Our needs as Americans for instant gratification - We could all trade on Goozex, or sell on ebay or send to Amazon for a better deal every time. We don't though because we want a game now now now! I'm just as guilty as the next guy of this.

3. My sister-in-law. Well it's not her specifically, but she represents the Gamestop *KEY* demographic. Clueless about games, clueless about prices, 7 year old son who has to have the new Nickelodeon shovelware game because his friends have them, or he'll just die. She will take her son and his dozen shovelware games (bought at 50 bucks each) and trade them in for $7 bucks, because she doesn't know any better, and Gamestop makes it easy for her.... for a price.

I don't get the fuss with them gutting new games. It saves me the trouble of ripping off the plastic. The games are in mint condition, they simply put the disc in an envelope, manuals mint too. The only people who really should bitch about this are the ones who don't open games and instead hangs on to them to sell on eBay one day for an increased price. In which case, they can just go to another store.

Or maybe they're one of those people that come under the feeling of ecstasy when they rip plastic off a game case, like they're clothing on a fine lady.

^ This. And they know it. Actually most of the time the people that complain about the unwrapped games are people that like to find something to complain about.

Oh, and make sure to tell them their game isn't a virgin.

Mint condition? I've received games before that were gutted copies that looked like someone got a smudge on them and tried to clean it with a Brillo pad, which essentially made that 'mint' game look like someone's old beat up trade-ins.

As for my reason, I like to know I'm the first person(besides any at the factory it was packed at)to actually handle the disc and manual and I don't have to worry about shit stains from mommy's little bastards who have been handling the manual and case and weren't taught proper hygiene.

But hey, if you don't care one way or the other, that's your thing. But I know what I like and what I will and won't accept as far as games go. Gutting a new copy and still selling it as new is a horrible practice but one many people put up with.

Try opening a new and sealed copy of a game in front of them and then asking them for a full refund, see what they say. I bet their definition of 'new' changes.

Do you ever stop bitching about Gamestop? Every thread that even mentions the name Gamestop I see you in it raising a bitchfest about something. Also, please try and remember that you were also one of "Mommy's little bastards."

Actually, from what I've been told I was a well behaved kid. It was only once I reached 13-14 that I became a pain in the ass.

But I just pointing out that apparently not all GS employees are gentle with their 'newsed' copies of games. I've had it happen a few times and both of those times I told them to shove them.
