First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. The second post is blank currently but is there for expansion or to revert back to the way things were. Third post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Fourth post has the PS2/GC values. Fifth post has DS/PSP values. Sixth post has hardware/accessory values for all systems.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.


I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.


I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.


Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
*Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

You should be able to, but there have been mentions of the credit being removed when the pre-order is cancelled. That is rare though.
 
Traded in Shift 2 Unleashed today with a printout of the coupon from the first post. My local Gamestop accepted it with no questions asked. They even let me keep the coupon to use again.

At my GS they had these on a pad right in front of the register. Then the guy said I didn't even need one since he had one behind the counter. I took a real one anyway to use next time. So I still have my printout and now a "real" one. YMMV of course... But it seems like they don't mind handing these out.

Can somebody tell me why Super smash bros Brawl is still 25$ TIV? Is it because the game is not being manufactured anymore? I mean, the game came out 3 years ago and still worth alot.. whats so special about it?

From the looks of every used game section (and other game sections at stores) I think the problem is more that Bethesda printed enough copies that every person on earth could have 4 copies.
 
Playing Fallout Vegas right now...I do prefer FO3 but Vegas is a good second. It just doesnt feel the same though...even though the mechanics are about the same =T

How often do you have to trade in the same games and how many times before Gamestop usually gets aware of it and will take action?

Then with that, are the TIV of Dance Central and Kinect Sports retaining their value today of $20 and $22 respectively?

(I am simply trying to transfer a bunch of Best Buy credit to Gamestop and I feel this B1G1 is a decent way of doing it. I have traded two of each in so far and was hoping to do two more sets of each today, would that be alright? I ask because I use my buddies PUR card all the time lately because I told him I would net him A TON of points [which I have been]; it is just I would feel terrible if I got him banned haha.)

Oh I am no beginner, haha I have been flipping for years I know to do that. I was just curious (because I never have cared to wonder for myself) if there is anyway it tracks overall in the system. Like I said, it only is brought to my attention now that I am using my friend's PUR card.

It's tracked on the PUR site, and GS stores can look it up via your transaction history if they care to. (one store did that to check how many penny guides i had been buying)

I don't know if anyone actually looks at the PUR transaction history outside of individual stores if they want to check something though.

The Gamestop rep sees your transaction history when he scans your card. It doesn't matter where you visit.

If you are flipping just get your own card and don't mess with your friends.
 
Yeah at the last b2g1 sale as soon as the guy scanned my pur card he goes "hmm why'd u buy 3 copies of fallout nv".

You think they will say anything after 4 trade ins of the same games?
 
Yeah, this is why I never buy too many copies of one thing. I wonder if they're gonna start reviewing accounts and ban people who flip too much. They know they're not "valuable" customers because if they're gonna flip from GS, they also flip to GS.
 
Got $39 in credit for 4 old games with all the promotions (10% powerup, 40% if you pre-order an E3 game), I was pretty happy. Base values are pretty low, though.

7/4 Base Values:

Fallout: New Vegas (360)- $8
Tiger Woods '10 (PS3)- $6
Disney Epic Mickey (Wii)- $8
Sin and Punishment: SS (Wii)- $4

Apparently Donkey Kong for Wii is $40.49 if you're a PowerUp member, so I traded 4 old games for a "new" one. Success.

It really depends on the district manager. Some take a look at account activity and if they see something suspicious they are the ones that will pull the trigger. Its usually the district manager that requests a ban or lifts a ban.

I got banned 3 or 4 years ago for using a B&W coupon too many times....yup black&white lol. I was only banned from using coupons again. The funny thing is that as soon as I renewed my membership the ban was no longer in effect. I think the ban was tied to my membership number and not my name+address. Their system has improved since so it could be different these days.

Anyway, i really wouldn't do this on your friends account. The membership is only $15 which you will make back immediately on your flip.


edit: if you sign up i think you also get a B2G1 free coupon. Another incentive to go for it ;)
 
From what I have gathered from here and other sources it seems as though 4x of a game will not be a big deal. Also, it is not a matter of having my own card, I have had countless Edge Cards. It is just once the PUR stuff started my buddy wanted me to use his card for all the promo items and stuff he can get from the points. I somewhat owe him so that was my payment.. aka I never renewed my card so that I would always use his.

Either way I am going to head out soon and do some more Best Buy flips; again, can anyone confirm the retained value of Kinect Sports and Dance Central?

Anyone know how much MLB: The Show '11 for PSP trades in for? The stores around here in CA refuse to provide quotes over the phone. Or, if you know which stores around you do provide phone quotes, I don't mind calling out-of-state.

I used the 40% more TIV for preordering E3 titles and put $59.99 towards Uncharted 3. They wouldn't let me put the remainder on my card so I told them to put the rest towards Skyrim. If I end up not wanting Skyrim and don't pick it up will the credit from that be put on my Rewards card?

He told me I needed the printout and I told him it was on the flyer right next to us. I really don't want Skryim so I hope he gets screwed over if I don't pick up my copy of the game. I just want to make sure I can get my credit back.

I would have completed the transaction, then cancelled all of my pre orders. They can't NOT let you cancel a pre order.

go back when he is working, cancel your preorder and get your credit on a card. If he complains or hems and haws, ask for the number of the district manager.
 
Yeah it was a weird experience all around. I've traded in a bunch of games during the 40% more for E3 games, I've paid off all 5 games I wanted during the promotion, so when I walked in today with those games hes like why ya trading these in today? I'm like uh I guess it's because I'm done with them. And after it was all said and done I had $7.52 and he said it could only go to another preorder for the promotion. So I told him Skyrim, so as long as I know if I don't pick it up the credit will be refunded then I'll be alright. I did come home afterwards and for the first time got on Tellgamestop.com and told them how "great" my experience was.

I don't think it's a matter of not picking it up. I think you actually have to cancel it to get the money back on your card.

Do we have confirmation from a GS employee or something that like if Ted and Rob work at a GS and I preorder a game with Ted, but then cancel it with Rob, that Rob gets a negative on his account, while Ted keeps the positive mark?

I'm curious which store this was at if you are in the St. Louis area. That guy sounds similar to a prick I've run into several times on the Illinois side.
 
The Maplewood store on Hanley by Walmart and Sam's Club. The one on St Charles Rock road and the Maplewood store are each about 10 minutes away. I think from now on I'm gonna stick with the St Ann store as they are much friendlier. The clerks name was Joseph, and he acted like his last name was Gamestop.
 
That's not the same one, but maybe they're brothers. :) After a few bad experiences he drove me to fill out one of those surveys as well.
 
That +50% trade in promotion, is it only when trading in towards an E3 game?

Yeah its 40% more plus 10% for Powerup Rewards members for a select group of E3 games. Then there is the 40% more coupon on the first page on here that apparently works if you print it out, which I apparently should have done today.

Meant the 40%, mistyped LOL. I'll try printing it out and see if they take it instore.....Hopefully I can get rid of these fighting games a friend gave me for something more useful.

Do you need DS cases to get the most value out of DS game trades? I assume the answer is no since they trash the cases anyway but I just wanted to double check.
