Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

I've pretty much given up on that happening. I'd like to think that I cover a good portion of the questions in the first post but I must me wrong. That came off a little bitchier that I meant, but I still stand by it.
Nope. Edge only works with accessories and games.
just bought the 149 - 50 credit = 99 from amazon.

Anyone with ideas on how am I going to break even?
Actually this is smart as these are already going for a couple hundred of dollars over MSRP on eBay and you can pay off a great portion of your new system in full off of this short term investment.

Hell, I plan to do the same for the 3DS for investment purposes when all the kids want one for the holidays, which I am guessing is when this handheld will be released.
Yep my cousins fiance said shed buy one if give her the $ so I am going to throw the other on ebay and hopefully make an extra $200-300 which should be NO problem.
I'm starting to doubt that. They would have given us a time frame at E3. I think it will be japan this year and U.S. in the late winter/early spring.
But you agree it will sell like hot cakes just like the Wii and iPhone as the new novelty will be what everybody wants just like the Slim.

JP,

But you are the guru and you always make it a point to get the information up as soon as possible and if you are not a CAG Virgin, it should be the first place for people to go. Hell, it is in the damn OP and title thread. It is on EVERY single page for the last 3 days and people aren't even looking at the current page or previous one to see if it is posted. LAG aka Lazy Ass Gamers!

I'm not seeing a lot of xbox slims going "a couple hundred over MSRP"?

I see one auction ended at $449 and one at $399 but for the most part, the values arent enough to cover your fees and shipping.

jp - don't even sweat it. You have the patience of a saint. I wouldve told at least 20 people in the last 5 pages to read the motherfucking OP (with requisite Samuel L Jackson pic) already. If people are so lazy they can't even read 1 post before wanting answers, then f em.

What do you mean? If you bought it for $100 and they are offering you $100 for trade in promo at GS plus additional for the HDD and you STILL have the credit, you are actually ahead.

So I got a 60gb premium, an extra 20gb HDD, and more controllers than I can shake a stick at. Think it'll be worth it to trade in for a slim?
But you agree it will sell like hot cakes just like the Wii and iPhone as the new novelty will be what everybody wants just like the Slim.
LOL. Yes. It will be a crazy, money-printing, rain-making, mind-blowing portable device. Nintendo will get sued for making people sick and causing seizures. You heard it here first.

I laugh when people say they are "going for $200-$300 more on eBay" when they really aren't. A quick look at the sites shows a few just below $400, which is obviously more than the $300 MSRP, but you havew to figure in eBay fees of at least $20, PayPal fees of $10 or so, and then tax of say $20-$30 and then there is shipping/insurance.

Plus, just because you see a bunch of BIN's for $600 or auctions that say $500 or $600 with no bids, that doesn't mean they will sell for that amount.

l2Use eBay plx.

That is true and I stand corrected on my previous statement. However, it is not like most of these sellers even have a system on hand anyways and are still getting more than MSRP on a "promise" to ship it to you once they get it.

Thought 100 TIV was for toward a NEW 360 SLIM?
I don't want a new slim. I only bought the new one so I can hack it to play games off of the USB.

I bought the arcade spring bundle and want to keep my hdd, I can trade in the console/controller/games to cover my new investment.

console/controller is 60 + 25 bonus
banjoo/viva separately is 9.90 with edge

You're very right. I calculated it and to make this "200-300" profit they'd have to sell it for BIN price of around $570 to 680 + charge shipping. For all those sidewalk campers with dollar signs in their eyes, you may want to lower your earning expectations a bit.

Sorry this was probably asked before but I didn't see it in the OP, does the $100 TIV for the 360 work for the Arcade???

Does gamestop take a wireless headset for a trade in towards slim? I believe the new slim comes with a wireless head set right? Thinking about trying to trade in my white wireless headset as well.

I want to say yes as the only difference would be the lower price for the 20GB HDD (if that is what you have) which would get you $30 + Edge bonus.

It's a wired headset that comes with the Slim. Black, wired headset.

I have updated the first post with some edits in red inside of the promo information for the Slim Trade-Up promo. See if that helps any with these questions.

So two questions for GS veterans:

1) How thoroughly do they inspect systems these days? I have a freezing system that begs to be traded.
2) Somewhat rhetorical, but what's to stop me from making the trade, purchasing the slim, then returning it the next day for a refund of cash & credit? I have no desire to keep a slim, but the increased credit would be nice.

The one time I traded a console he absent-mindedly played Halo on it for 10 minutes and then said it was ok. I'm sure it varies person to person / store to store though.

The guy that took my trade in played the Force Unleashed for around 5 minutes and said it was fine. Other than that, they just made sure all the other wires were there.

Regarding the trade-3-get-$10 promo:

Does anyone know if this can be repeated? Basically, say I have 15 games to trade that all qualify. Will they give me $10 additional per 3 games on one transaction, or would I need to have 5 separate transactions? Or is it 1 $10 credit per customer that they keep track of in their customer database, meaning I can only get it once during the promotion, regardless of the number of games/transactions?

Any input is appreciated!
Wondering how many of you are trading in your MW2 consoles?
I've got three systems including a MW2 bundle but I think if anything I'll trade the other two toward a Slim and keep the MW2.

While on this subject, just so I am clear on the promotion, it's $100 for the system + wires + 1 controller, correct and the hard drives are separate? So if I have a 20GB premium that is $100 + $30 for the whole thing, correct? Also, any chance this would stack with the $25 extra for hardware? It's been a while since I dealt with gamestop.

You can do them all at once and it should show up correctly. I've done it in the past.

Correct.
Whenever GS does a promotion, it is ALWAYS for credit.
I figure it would be credit, but it should be cash since the TIV is if its put towards a slim. Since I am bringind the HDD back after I tranfer it to my slim, obviously, the money is already spent.

I'm torn.
I want a new Slim but love my blood red Res Evil 5 Elite too much to give it up for only $100.

So you're basically saying you want to defraud the system. good luck having someone try to help you. this promotion is for people who really want the 360 slim and for you to take advantage of a promotion then decide to return it the next day is a dick move. they are only getting a few per store and the demand for them is there. Let someone who wants to actually enjoy the system purchase it and keep it.

Not quite like that - but yeah they still do eat discs.

I wouldn't call that super sensitive though. I mean the genius picked it up while the game was booting up. I mean, what system WOULDN'T eat a disc like that?

Honestly I just want to get a Slim and cut down on the number of 360s I have. I don't need 3 and I certainly wouldn't need 4 but from the looks of it with these promos, that's about as much as I'd get for my 2 older systems anywhere, especially the 20GB.

When GS posts the actual deal on the site tomorrow I really hope it doesn't expire for several weeks. Reading about how absolutely loony some of you are talking about camping for something that will be flooding stores a month from now is just hilarious to me. My box will survive till the next shipments arrive and every idiot buying multiples to try and profit on ebay will just feel stupid.

To actually add to the thread now: I have three stores within 2 miles of me and they are getting 4, 5 and 6 xbox's respectively. All expect to have them on Friday.

In order to get the bonus trade in credit for your system and accessories, you need to trade them in at the time of purchasing the Slim. So if you return the Slim, your purchase receipt will reflect the promotion and I would assume that the system would only give you back BASE values for your hardware. You may actually lose out this way since you would forfeit the $25 hardware bonus promotion.
