Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.
I don't think they actually take headsets. It's not in the list of things required and I didn't get any money when I traded in my console. I just gave it to them because I have way too many (they're included with everything!) and it came with the console anyway.

The ethernet cable isn't required either, but they give $0.65 for it.
just because it is not on the list doesn't mean they won't take it. if it's on the list you'll get the promotional credit of course, but if it isn't then you'll get the base trade in value+10% for edge if you have it.

nevermind, I found my AV cable but it is messed up. The slider on the side that swtched between HDTV and TV is missing and it is beat up a bit. I called and he said as long as it works its fine. Also they will take a thrid party controller with the system.

Wait Im confused what if I trade in my Xbox 360 to get the new one how Im I going to transfer my Memory from my old 120 harddrive to the new one??? :whistle2:k

HALP!

I planned on going early tomorrow but I called just now and asked and they said they had 20. I went at 5pm and this was at the Gamestop in North Bergen, NJ (Not the one where Walmart is). While I was there one other person did the trade in.

Here is the problem. They said I could NOT trade in my hard drive at a later date for the bonus credit. They said it had to be right then and there and getting all my information transferred was my problem. I kept my hard drive anyway but what can I do about this????

20

No luck in SoCal for me, at least the 2 that I called, they expect them tomorrow and they each said that they don't expect more than 4 each. :wall:

If they don't allow you to trade the HDD later for bonus credit, try doing what others have mentioned in this thread, take the receipt along with the HDD and do a return and rebuy.

they're just being dicks for saying you cannot do the deal with your HD trade in. you have 7 days to do that but you'll have to pay the amount up front and get it refunded in store credit when you finally trade in your hard drive. I traded in my 120gb hd and they put it aside on hold for me (so they won't sell it or anything) until hopefully tomorrow when they get the new transfer kit then they'll transfer everything over for me, free. it varies and if the gs doesn't wanna do that for you then you have 2 options: buy the transfer kit and do it yourself or go to another gamestop that will do it for you for free.

I meant, it's not required to trade in the console, even though the console originally comes with one. At least, mine did.

Since I got no value from it (unlike the ethernet cable) I don't think they actually accept them as trade-ins.

No need to bring in the console, just take your receipt with the HDD, have them do a return and rebuy...all the info needed is on the receipt already. of course this might be YMMV.
Anyone find a gamestop in the OC with the new 360 in stock. Most I've called say monday and a few say tomorrow. Anyways I will probably trade in my 360 ASAP as it red ringed a few days ago but is working now. Hope it lasts until I can trade it in.
My friends and I have been checking a bunch of stores throughout LA/OC and have yet to find one that received stock.

We're getting the same message of either Monday or Friday and that none showed up in today's shipment.

Almost seems like so cal got the shaft. They're probably sitting in the back of the truck on some freeway:cry:

360 is online at GS.com, but store locater isn't showing anything within 100 miles. Probably the stores aren't registering them yet or something.

Any word on if they'll take a refurbed 360? I bought one off geeks.com that has a warranty sticker on it, but all the original MS stickers are scrubbed.

I was looking at the list of games that get a trade in of $25 and noticed that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 is on there. Is that supposed to be 11 or what? It only has a $6 trade in value right now, I can't imagine them bumping it that much. Anybody tried that one yet?

Pretty sure it's 10. It was on the trade 2 list and they were bumping up to $20 for it a couple weeks ago. Not that big of a stretch to think it's on special for $5 more.

I got lucky and was able to pick up the very last slim at my local gamestop. I got some pretty unreal prices for my stuff here it is.

XBOX 360 - $125
Hard Drive 120GB - $44
Headset - $5.50
Memory Card 64MB - $11.00
Hard Drive 20GB - $53.00 :)
Network Adapter G - $44.00

* All accessories included edge

I ended up getting a total of $282.50 for everything. I am pretty sure thought that the cashier mess up on the 20gb hd. I don't understand how I got more than my 120gb but I am not going to complain.

Overall I would say that slim is not too much smaller but it is definitely quieter and no longer sounds like I have a 747 running in my room :).

I think they screwed up on your 360 as well because you're only supposed to get $100, they must of added $25 from the trade in bonus as well.
I think they screwed up on your 360 as well because you're only supposed to get $100, they must of added $25 from the trade in bonus as well.
No they just didn't remove the $25 trade in bonus. Which is why they got more for the 20 GB HD as well (the rep must have put in that they traded a 360 Core system which would add the bonus to both as of right now)

I got the same thing for my Xbox and 60 GB HD....it was worth more then my 120...

That doesn't get updated until tomorrow Morning. Hence why if you are looking for a used game that is new and shows that its in stock that morning you better get over there since it was updated early in the AM or call ahead before going up.

I have been burnt by that before.

That's good, no stores near me have gotten the transfer kit at all but hopefully by tomorrow they will. Also, if you have the older transfer kit (that lets you transfer from your 20gb to ya 120gb hd) you can trade that in for $7.50 store credit and use ya edge card too.

Yeah, I searched and saw that after I posted. I wonder if that's only for the new kind? Either that, or I was just hosed.

No EDGE card here (actually, I'm in one of the "PowerUp" test markets) so no 10%. The 10% I would have gotten woulda probably JUST paid off the card, but I really never shop at GS and I NEVER buy used stuff (I like to support the actual people who make the games) so the long term value of it wasn't really there for me either.

This is what im doing.

New super mario bros = 25$

Uncharted2 = 25$

Alan Wake = 25$

Heavy rain - 25 $

Skate 3 = 25 $

Xbox system = 100 $

120 GB HD = 40$

20 GB HD = 30$

1. Controller = 25$

320$ for the new xbox.

Good deal or not?

Xbox w/ wired controller - 125
120gb hdd - 42.40
20gb hdd - 31.00
wireless controller x2 - 55
Battlefield Bad Comp 2 (ps3) - 27.20
Heavy Rain - 27.10
Super Mario Galaxy - 26.20

========================
333.90

All prices after tradein bonuses + EDGE, They ended up OWING me money!!! Slim Xbox 360 Ftw!!!

Were people lined up waiting outside your gamestop to get the slim when you guys picked yours up? They're not taking preorders, nor are they doing a call list - I'm just trying to figure out when I realistically need to be infront of a gamestop w/ a bag full of stuff to trade in.

Oh man, I usually don't like GameStop, but this 360 trade-in bonus is too good to pass up. Where else am I going to get this kind of money for my current 360? Probably not on ebay or craigslist.

Will probably trade in the console, 60gb HDD, 512mb memory card and 2 wireless controllers for a total of $203! Which makes the slim $97! Not too shabby :) Might throw in some older games to bring the TIV up a bit.

Can the "old" transfer cable be used to transfer my HDD to the new slim?

Sorry if this was asked. If I trade in a Pro unit minus the hard drive, do I need to include the component cable, or does the standard composite cable suffice? I can't find the component cable I believe came with the unit.

how are you people getting 125 for the system....I have checked 3 stores now and they are all saying its 100.00 flat...there is NO 25.00 bonus on this because its a seperate deal...the system is usually worth 60.00 and with the 25.00 bump up it goes to 85. So the fact that we are getting 100 for the system is good when it is applied to the new slim....so how is it that there are people reporting getting 125?!?!

I'll just copy and paste this from the last time I answered that question. If the 360 slim trade-up promo was working automatically like it was supposed to, you would only get $100. GameStop corporate has sent out a message saying things aren't being picked up correctly by their promo set so they are instructed to give the $100 promo price manually. Since that is done manually the $25 hardware bonus will still activate, when it's not supposed to. Stores are supposed to remove the $25 bonus but most wont remember.

read some of the posts right after those posts- the trade up promo isn't working correctly so employees have to bump up the value manually. since they do that, the $25 promo automatically gets added on since no other promo is active.

Second thing:
Has it been confirmed that one can use any transfer cable to transfer stuff to the Xbox 360S?
I'll just copy and paste this from the last time I answered that question. If the 360 slim trade-up promo was working automatically like it was supposed to, you would only get $100. GameStop corporate has sent out a message saying things aren't being picked up correctly by their promo set so they are instructed to give the $100 promo price manually. Since that is done manually the $25 hardware bonus will still activate, when it's not supposed to. Stores are supposed to remove the $25 bonus but most wont remember.
That's awesome. Sure hope that they forget about that when I come in!

Well I would expect that glitch to be fixed tonight.

Say I trade in 2 360's...

Will one of the systems get the $100 trade up promo and then the other will get the $25 bonus? I heard you can only trade in one towards the slim deal, so hypothetically this will work, correct?

I called mine up near me in MN and they said they got 10 today, and it sounds like they got it a little later in the day because he said "one other person" called about it, and while they expected them to sell there didnt seem to be a huge fervor of actual buying, but I guess i'll find out tommorow maybe (still need to transfer my stuff off, and am also fine with waiting for the 2nd shipment anyway).

Also a huge ass tornado/storm is sweeping through the area, making it harder for people to make it to the store :p .

Where is that? I'm in Duluth and we hardly ever get any thing serious like that up here.

Anyway, I'm not really expecting a huge shortage at Duluth GameStops either. As far as I can tell, it's not really a huge gaming town.
