These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Also other quick question, would Gamestop care if the battery cover for Wii Motes are missing? I could just take the ones off my old standard Wii Motes, but I'd prefer not to if I didnt need to.

wow, i already traded most of my stuff i wanted to get rid of using the 7/$35 deal, so i actually went and bought a couple black ops 2 from best buy (buy 1 get 1 50% off) for 40 and traded them in for close to $70, just to make using the coupon on my controller seem worth it. as far as your wii motes, i know the 360 controllers have to have them, so id probably take the covers with you but have them in your pocket or something. that way if they do say you need them you could say, oh yeah, forgot those are right here.

 
So gamestop would be ok trading in vga cables with my slim instead of the component cables?

 
Wouldn't they take anything as long as it could be played? I'm pretty sure I either sold or gave away my 360's cable, so I'm just gonna trade in one of my many HDMI cables.

Never had an issue in the past with it either

 
Hello all, I have a question about GS Xbox 360 Controller Trade-In policy. Do you need to have battery controller/packs with the controllers? Will they accept controllers with parts of the plastic on the joysticks missing?

You need the battery pack (AA battery holder) with the 360 controllers.

I'm in a similar predicament now since my wireless controller is damaged to the point where I had to order a new 360 controller shell as mine has a significant piece of plastic missing from getting crushed on one side. I hope that comes soon so I can trade in my console.

I was denied a sixaxis trade in at a few stores for having maybe 20% of the rubber missing from the right stick. I had to order a set of replacement sticks off amazon and trade it in. Luckily the TIV didn't drop by the time I got the replacement ones.

I don't think gs takes opened controllers.

So after renewing my PuR membership and having the 50% extra coupon and about 6 sets of trade 7 get extra 35 I ended up getting 1364.65. I paid off my Ps4 reserve, my 2nd controller, Tale of Xillia CE, a kindle Fire HD and put 100 down on a ps4 for my wife. Way more then I thought I'd be looking at.

I have one other question just thought of, I am trading in also about 22 games, if I give them the coupon but with the trade tiers going on, will it automatically give me what ever is highest or do I need to tell them?

It should give you the better of the deals, however make sure that you do seperate trades because the system will only give you up to the one 35 dollar bonus. I took aside any games I had over 10 in value for the 50% coupon and the rest I did sets of 7 for the tiered deal.

I tried to trade two copies of blacks ops today and they wouldn't let me.
After doing this last Blockbuster flip to Gamestop, the employee told me if i wanted to do multiples of each game then bring in the receipt and it would be cool to trade in 1+ copy and he would email his GM or whatever,

 
Never had a problem with my stores taking one of each copy. Though I never tried to bring in multiples of the same, seems like an easy way to raise some red flags

 
I didn't think there was a problem taking in multiple copies of games on different platforms. I knew multiples of the same weren't allowed, or YMMV though.

 
One game on two different console's should be NO PROBLEM when trading in, because its very likely you could have one of each system, and play it on both. If they ever try to refuse you on two copies of the same game, say that, even it isn't true. They actually don't have that hangup if it is for a handheld system btw, like a 3ds or vita game, no problem. (I had asked if two of the same game for the same console was allowed and he explained.) I mean on sunday I traded in Black Op's Two for ps3 and 360, he didn't bat an eye. Technically they should have NO reason to deny you. Because since they are on different consoles they ARE different games!

 
Went to gamestop today and the cashier quoted me for $9 credit for my copy of Playstation All Stars on PS3 (should be 13 at least). The reason? It didn't have a case (none of my games did) or manual so they re taking some credit off. When in the world did this become policy? All of a sudden gamestop is concerned on what the customers get when they buy a game used? Don't make me laugh. (My game has only been played once and it was a sealed game so its brand spankin new.)

Needless to say I will be going to another gamestop from now on. (plus they were sold out of amazon giftcards so that didn't help.)

I saved my trades btw. Will try again tomorrow and hope no trade in values go down between today and tomorrow.

Whenever that happens I ask them why there are so many used games without cover art and if they sell those at a discount since they take off for not having it. That usually makes them change their mind.

 
So on the featured trades page on their website, they have the 360 transfer cable and network adapter listed. it says these prices include the extra 10/20/35. Correct me if wrong, but accessories don't count towards these bonus credits, right?

and so no way of knowing what stores still have amazon cards besides calling or showing up? is this something all gamestops are supposed to carry?

Well they don't think you are stealing these games, as much as you might be FLIPPING these games, they hate it when people are using them to make money.

 
One game on two different console's should be NO PROBLEM when trading in, because its very likely you could have one of each system, and play it on both. If they ever try to refuse you on two copies of the same game, say that, even it isn't true. They actually don't have that hangup if it is for a handheld system btw, like a 3ds or vita game, no problem. (I had asked if two of the same game for the same console was allowed and he explained.) I mean on sunday I traded in Black Op's Two for ps3 and 360, he didn't bat an eye. Technically they should have NO reason to deny you. Because since they are on different consoles they ARE different games!
really it shouldnt matter at all. the logic of "one guy stole and traded in stolen items to us therefore all customers are theives" is BS logic at its finest.

the explanation i got was people steal from wal mart and then flip them to gamestop. cops have talked to me before about it and gotten mad.

so not doubting you i am sure they hate us making money off them but i got the its a stealing prevention thing.

Question to the people trading in the psp memory cards. I called one of my Gamestops close by and the guy said they do not take them. Is there anything specific that you did for them to take them?
 
Probably the associate was an idiot and couldn't find it in the system. They're listed under PSP Memory Stick X GB.

Went to gamestop today and the cashier quoted me for $9 credit for my copy of Playstation All Stars on PS3 (should be 13 at least). The reason? It didn't have a case (none of my games did) or manual so they re taking some credit off. When in the world did this become policy? All of a sudden gamestop is concerned on what the customers get when they buy a game used? Don't make me laugh. (My game has only been played once and it was a sealed game so its brand spankin new.)

Needless to say I will be going to another gamestop from now on. (plus they were sold out of amazon giftcards so that didn't help.)

I saved my trades btw. Will try again tomorrow and hope no trade in values go down between today and tomorrow.
That's so stupid by that store because it caused you to not trade there and the No. 1 thing stores (overall) are rated on currently is trades, more so than PUR and preorders.

My GS will take in disc-only copies all the time. They don't like it because the games have to be looked up manually, but if they defect something, it's scratched or cracked.

 
If a game has "not for resale" on the back of the case, will they still accept it? I have Ocarina of Time for the 3DS, but it came bundled with my system and doesn't have a UPC on the back.

And, just to clarify -- if I use the 50% trade-in for my system but have 7 games for extra $35 to trade along with it, I'll get the better of the two deals on the transaction?

Do two transactions. It's give you the better one, but only one. Since a system is involved, that'll be the 50%. Do all your games worth $10 or more and the system, then do the low dollar games separate for 7/35.
 
When I trade in xbox system. Do the headset and power adapter get their own trade in credit or are they a part of the system ?

 
Just to make sure, for trading in a black slim 360, can I trade in a white wireless controller. I don't see why not.

Also about someone asking about the A/V cables, I was told that it has to be the original style cables, either composite or component. They said that I could buy the universal cables they sell and trade those in, but luckily I found my cables. Not sure what others have been doing, just what they told me.

Pull out the cover art that says "not for resale" and you shouldn't have any issues. They will just look up the game instead. It better to do this just in case you get an employee won't let you trade it in.

 
With the talk of GS policies on trading in multiple copies of a game, I'm curious if you can trade in multiple versions of a system in.

Say my friend wanted to trade in his 360 too, could I trade in my slim 250gb and trade in his 4gb slim at the same time so he can get the 50% bonus. I'd just let him buy whatever he wants with his share of the trade in.
