WHEN REPORTING TRADE-IN VALUES PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. Second post has the values for games/hardware for Microsoft devices. Third post has the values for games/hardware for Nintendo consoles and the fourth post has the values for Nintendo handhelds. Fifth post has the values for games/hardware for Sony consoles and the sixth post has the values for Sony handhelds.

WHEN POSTING VALUES:

Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

So im trading in an older Vita for a New Vita bundle today. can I format the system before I bring it in or do I have to leave it so they can test the system?

if I leave it is it easy to just deactivate it and active the PSN account on the new one?
Deactivate the system from your PSN account before doing anything else. Then reset it to factory and just let that 40 minute intro movie roll. Then it will be formatted and ready for them to deal with.
 
Almost ran into a major problem trading in my vita today. I bought it off of Cowboom and according to GS, it was apparently missing the serial number or had an incorrect one... luckily, the manager said to go ahead and authorize it anyways. And this is the GS that normally hates me!

Destiny XB1 - $40 trade in value

They took the promo off of the site it seems like but it's going to be $40 until the beginning of October. 

I ended up trading it in, since I got it free with my XB1, probably just pick up Forza Horizon 2 instead.

A tip for anyone resetting the vita. When the intro movie starts playing hold the power button and then turn the vita off. Turn it back on and the movie will be skipped.

 
I went to Gamestop earlier today to buy NHL 15.  They tried to sell me an open game.  Seriously?  I thought they stopped with that bullshit.

The guy said it was their last one.  It was clearly opened.  I just told him I'd come back later or something.  Maybe should've asked for a used game price first or knockoff of $5.  These guys are fools with their open games.  Who cares if it's the last one why's it opened??

Yeah, this is a new policy they started about a month or two ago. It's actually because they get too many customers who have a hard time opening the games so instead of having disgruntled customers complain about it they go through the trouble of opening it for you. Not a bad policy, imo.

 
Lol, I remember this conversation two GS employees were having last month when I went in with some Kongregate coupons. Apparently some guy had come by looking for a new copy of LoZ: A link between worlds, and they only had the cartridge. They tried to sell it to the guy as new and he wasn't budging so they said they'd sell it to him for the used price, and the guy still didn't want it. He just left. The associate was like "can you believe that customer?!" and went on a "Nintendo gamers are the most anti social people I've ever known. Whenever we have a midnight launch for a Nintendo game, they just all stand in separate corners and don't interact with each other", rant and I was like oh yeah, totally! because I wanted him to let me use multiple congregate coupons, lol.

Hyrule Warriors base is $35, just looked it up since I bought it today at BBY and gonna play a bit later and trade if i don't like.  if I trade it this weekend towards COD 2014 i'll get ... $50.05?  Will a $40 TIV base game (are there any?) get $59.70?    

E-mail offer says its good tomorrow and sunday, I already have $5 on a PS4 COD preorder (for Destiny shader) and I may as well fill it up since I'll probably play the game a little, just to see Kevin Spacey.

That's gonna be a common problem my serial number came off and the barcode one that has it embedded has faded.

I actually had an odd experience (not the first time though). I was picking up a white PSP 2000; last refurb one in AZ so I thought, why not?

So I go there a few days ago and the guy claims he "shipped a bunch of PSP stuff" out to another store. So I leave and decide the next day I'd put a hold on it early in the morning online. The "ready for pickup" message takes about an hour to get to my email. I wait to get it the day after and call up the store. Same guy. Great. I ask if the PSP is really there. He said something like, "Just came in a shipment today." BS. It was there all along; some other employee got to it first before you did.

At the time I bought this copy of Destiny GE for PS3 it was the LAST in AZ, all because a kid wanted a PS4 version but ordered a 3.

But the kid used the DLC codes and his mother returned it. How the fuck did that get through? Unless the GS employee did it.

So I bought the thing and took it home and found it opened. My worst fears were confirmed when I tried to plug the codes in. The next day I call the guy and he tells me to call Sony. They confirm that the codes were used on launch week. I call him back, then he tells me to go contact Bungie. Realizing I wasn't getting anywhere with him, I went to another GS that knows me well. It had to go all the way to corporate manager before I got a replacement...Clusterf***? Yeah.

That honestly does happen. There was a girl who came in with her boyfriend, I guess she was a seasonal the previous holiday season, and was looking to get hired back. They bought the Zelda Wii U bundle through me and brought it back the next day. Said they just had second thoughts on it. Nintendo systems are annoying because most used to not have security seals, so I take it back. System didn't look unwrapped or anything. A sort of regular who was really cool decided it was time to give up the PS3 and 360 to get a Wii U. So, I give him that one, and about an hour later get a call. Yup, the codes for Windwaker and the guide were redeemed. There was really no way I could tell, and at that point, I put the circle stickers on the Nintendo systems I would sell to avoid those issues again. I'm assuming the Ghost edition had some sort of security seal, but shit happens. It does suck you had to go that far with it. In a situation like that, if I had taken the return and then subsequently sold it, it wouldn't have been a big deal.

The Destiny GE has two seals at the bottom. If you're familiar with the package it's easy to not see them broken unless you get close to it...which I wasn't able to do until I got home (I'm always under a fierce timetable after work so I always rush through every trip...sadly).

Having said all of this, were it not for those excellent employees I know everything would have ended worse. I'm pretty happy how they resolved the situation with me so I'll just go to ones that have good employees. I know a lot of good people who work at GS...and...I know a lot who worked for GS too.

Yeah that's fucked up when people steal.

You can look up unboxing videos on YouTube if you're ever worried about a specific return. They're always up the day of and even before the game releases. I would be skeptical if I saw anything different than what I saw on an unboxing video.
 
The limit is 4 of same game per 30 day period correct?

So if I trade in the same game Monday at store A and then same game at store B Wednesday then the third and final copy on Friday at store A again I should be safe correct?
 
About gamestop Digital Coupon. Let's say I want to give my B2G2 Wii/DS game coupon to a friend, will it work? Because isn't the digital tied into my account, therefore, would he be able to use his account, with my coupon, or would he need my coupon with my account?

Afaik, the coupons you get from PUR are not tied to your account. Thus, anyone with an account should be able to use those coupons.

Yes it should work. I have bought and sold PUR coupons with other cags here with no problem.

Unrelated question: Is there a limit on trade-ins of an accessory? Is it 5-6 like there is with games?

You will get the base *1.3 (30%) so in that case $45.50. You can put it towards already preordered game and still get the bonus.

Yup, still 4 of the same game per platform so you will be safe trading in 4 or less.

Same as games that being 4 per platform unless it is the slim adapters then proceed with caution as those are death knells in multiple quantities.

they are two separate promos.

1- Guaranteed $40 is $40 + 10% base of $35 if you are a PUR member = $43.50

2- Base of $35 can stack with promos + 10% PUR

The guaranteed $40 promo won't stack on top of the 30% extra CoD bonus. Any $35 base game traded in towards CoD (assuming your Pro) will get $49 this weekend as you'll get 40% extra off the $35 base, and the CoD promo invalidates the $40 promo as you're already over $40 after the CoD promo is applied.

The guaranteed $40 promo won't stack on top of the 30% extra CoD bonus. It's 30% total, not the usual 30% + 10%
 
I read somewhere recently on this thread that Gamestop was going to start printing codes for the B2G1 with powerup renewal on the receipt when you buy it instead of emailing it later.    Has this rolled out yet??

D'oh - anyone know when the SOTW is switching from the B2G2 to something else? (or has it already?)  REALLY hoping I can still get another one! Thanks in advance!
