I plan on getting a few of these games for the wife and kids, so it's my own little perfect storm.

Trade 2 wii games with tiv of $3.01 or more, get $30 off select titles including Wii Fit, Wii Music, RRR Tv party, Skate it, Fitness coach, Cooking Mama world kitchen, r u smarter..., cheer squad, DDR hot party2, Jillian Micheals, Skate City Heroes.
You also get a magazine to some womans magazines with purchase of any of these titles.

Trade two ds games more than $2.01 get $20 off most Imagine ... Games, My language games, a few more learning and educational games.

Way better than the trade 3 get $10 if you want some of these games.
I'll be looking for some cheap wii games left at BB since the wife and daughters want some new stuff to use with the wii balance board.

The manager at the store had the sign up but had no idea what the big "Save $30/Save $20" applied towards. He had to get out the promo book to see.

Added by Io - Since I was trying to figure out whether any of these games are good or not, I looked up reviews on a lot of them. That would probably be useful info here so, with the better ones (70 average or better - I rounded up the 69 ones) bolded:
That's only for wii games with low TIV, and if you want those games. If you have ps3, 360, or wii high TIV than 3 for $10 is a way better deal
No, reread the above two posts. You don't have to necessarily want those games. As several posters have stated, you can get the Skate it + credit + a gift return receipt, and then just return the game at a different GS for credit.

this promo:
$10 + $20(if you return Skate it) = $30

TIV per Wii game = $15

3 + $10 bonus promo:
Some Wii Game x3 (TIV = $5) -- $15 + 10 = $25

TIV per Wii Game = $8.XX

Sure, it's more of a hassle, but if you truly want the maximize your profits on the Wii Games, then this recent promo is the way to go. As the above poster stated, it's not until you get Wii TIV of $11.XX that the 3+ $10 bonus becomes the better deal.

(Some Wii Game x3 (TIV = $11.50) -- $34.50 + 10 = 44.50

TIV per Wii Game = $14.XX)

The $5 is not worth it. When you get to $7 TIV that's $31. Skate it deal is $30. Only low TIV applies to this promo. The extra hassle of having to return the game later or to another store negates the $5. Your going to end up putting that $5 in your gas tank any way. Plus if you have 360 or ps3 games its useless. Wii games are harder to come by now since the extra $5 for each wii game promo. Then again you are only trading 2 of your games instead of 3. I guess it depends on how many games you have for each platform. I forgot its trade 2 games.

Has anyone sucessfully trades a game they got for this promo back yet? I've done a CTRL+F search for "return" over the last few pages and found nothing.
Has anyone sucessfully trades a game they got for this promo back yet? I've done a CTRL+F search for "return" over the last few pages and found nothing.
I've read over most of the thread and don't recall anyone returning them yet.
Worth noting, as of tomorrow's coupon you can get an extra $5 on any Wii or DS game trade-in that is worth more than $2. The details are in the weekly ad thread: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/....php?p=5343650
Well if any of the ds games that I have trade for at least $5 I'll just use that then since I'll get more and won't have to return anything.

I think I read somewhere that someone brought a game back to another store *edit-found it, BB/GR thread, page 180 post 3582. My heart dropped this morning when I saw the TIVs. I hit up 7 BB, got 6 more to hit up. Hit up 5 GS to pick up fodder, drop off pick ups. Check the other threads to see what I picked up. From this specific deal, I picked up the following today; 3 Skate City Heroes, 1 Wii Music, 1 My Fitness Coach. Gonna pick up a Are You Smarter... That way, when I go to return the games, I'll try to return different games to a single store, instead of multiples of a single game.

Does anyone know if you bring in a bunch of games with seperate gift receipts if they will put the credit on one Edge card, or mutliple ones since they were different transactions?

Returned a batch of four games. They all went back onto an existing Edge card of mine, which makes me wonder if he knows what I was up to. I couldn't tell if he was okay with what I was doing or not. I might sit out the rest of this promo. I've got a few more to return and that's it. Managed to get my GF a Wii Fit for her to give to her mom.
I will say that this DEFINITELY makes it more of a typical GS "deal" though. Now they can rely on the stupid soccer moms trading in 2 games with TIVs of $11 and $12...and only have to give them a $7 bonus. Tell me how these people are saving $30? Haha...see, GS at its finest.
Yeah, it makes it more akin to the deal I hear GS clerks sometimes pitch to people for preorders - "Preorder now and when the game comes out you save $5!". Still, it is a decent deal if you want the games AND you can get access to the true cheapies as fodder (the $4 or $5 TIV games). Otherwise, meh...

And FoS, I think you asked earlier if you could do two transactions at once? Well, in my only attempt last night that's what I did - one Wii and one DS deal and they both worked together. Of course, given that I only had 2 next-gen games in there it wouldn't have gotten confused with the trade 3 deal so that maybe isn't the best test of the system.

Alexandria, LA - I picked up Wii Music. The store had a lil different interpretation of the promo tho. They just bumped up the Trade-in to $30.

I got Sega Superstar Tennis and Table Tennis from BBV for 9.99. Sega traded for $5 base and Table Tennis for $8 base. I used my Edge card to get the extra credit. But, it was pretty useless, cause they just took off the 30.

I guess it was ok, considering this was probably the last day of the promo here. And I made $20 credit off of a $10 purchase.

That's a decent time saver-- inadvertently the guy I dealt with last knew of the deal, but tried to do all of my Wii games together. When he scanned the three Wii games I was "saving" 30 dollars on, two of the Wii games got the boost to 15.00 (with Edge bump of the game's TIV) and the other four acted like I was doing the trade 3 and get 10 bonus. So, apparently, it's limited to one system per transaction. It specifically only activated the promo for one set of Wii games.

Also, I paid attention and noticed before he scanned the games I was purchasing, he had it totaled out and all six games got the "Trade 3 get 10" promo added onto them. Then he scanned the three games I was buying and it changed two of my trade ins to 15.00. So, the computer has the capability to fix the promo to give you the best deal, but not three times apparently.

What happens to the credit on an expired Edge card? When it comes time to get a new Edge card, I'm assuming that any trade-in credit you get from that point on goes on the new card, correct? However, I imagine that you should be able to use your old Edge card like a gift card to get rid of the remaining credit, right?

Edge card expires, credit shouldn't. The barcode they scan is for the edge card. The magnetic stripe is for thecredit.

Exactly. The "Edge" card is nothing more than a store credit storage device. The only difference between the Edge card a gift card is that purchases from the Edge card are not taxable (in most states, anyway - there are exceptions, apparently). You can only put trade credit on Edge cards.

The sticker that provides the 10% bonus is what expires and it has no connection to the credit on the card. I have my expired sticker on old EB-style Edge card and my current sticker on a new one and both have credit on them. In addition, I have several other Edge cards with credit and no stickers ;).

What happens when you return a game with a gift receipt? Do they need any identification from you or ask for your edge card or anything?
What happens when you return a game with a gift receipt? Do they need any identification from you or ask for your edge card or anything?
It has been a long time, but when I did this before (like 2 years ago) I got the credit on a gift card and not on the Egde card. So for you people with sales taxes that might make a bit of a difference (when you spend that you will be taxed). However, it might be different now and someone who has actually done this should answer ;).

Thanks for the info on the Edge card guys. BTW, I've been making purchases at GS with my Edge card credit, and I'm pretty sure I've been taxed on all my game purchases. I'll have to check to make sure. Does anyone know if California is one of the exempted states?

Yeah, that was the main exception I was thinking of. I know I did not pay sales tax when I used my Edge card in Arizona. I live in OR and there is no sales tax so it is weird for me when I do end up paying it - seems like a ripoff. But really, we get reamed on income tax and property tax so it evens out ;). However, it definitely makes game purchasing much better (especially flipping).

All my purchases have been taxed in CA.

Io,
Move across the river and save state income tax. Come across the river and shop during the weekend! I know the Costco by 137th & Sandy is full of WA plates on the weekends when I used to live in PDX.

Yeah, I know, but it's too late now - we're settled in. When I moved here from Arizona 5 years ago we seriously looked at Vancouver but there just wasn't a good development when we were looking (and had very little time to do so). I wish in retrospect that I had done so - but I wouldn't want to deal with that bridge traffic every day so there are other trade-offs. Plus I think I have a little better access to all the stores where I am (mostly because of those bridges).
All purchases with credit are taxed in MD. That goes for BBV and GS.
Same in NC. And I don't receive the tax credit on my trade ins either. I'm always amazed when I hear about people getting credit for the tax. If a TIV is $5.00, I get $5.00.

Really? I could swear I bought something in MD and didn't pay sales tax. Maybe not though - it has been a while. I do know that I get sales tax ADDED to trade-ins at Blockbuster in Vriginia, while I do not in Maryland. I thought that was odd.

Back on topic - funny how the actual discussion of this deal has come to a screeching halt since GS nerfed it .

Yeah... I had to get creative with the deal. I got two Wii Fits I'm going to try to sell for 100. I paid 89.99 since I'm in AZ and I don't get taxed on trade credit. Since I'm making ten dollars on each Wii Fit, I am able to replicate the loss of the base TIV. That is, if they wind up selling tomorrow. 100 is pretty reasonable I think, because I don't like to buy and resell these mainstream, hot gaming items people want. I think Wii Fit is only semi common in the area. People are still buying them up.

Got Bee Movie and Spiderwick last night for $9.99, going to do one more trade with this deal. I think I'll hold out for a Wii Fit, need to cash out. Trying to cut back on cashing out, but i'll still have plenty for games.

I've traveled pretty far and wide in MD and I've never not been charged tax. Makes me a sad panda. My profit margin would be significantly improved if I were not charged tax.

In NY State it worked like this:

BBV PAID tax to me when I traded in games
BBV CHARGED tax to me when I bought on credit

EBGS did not pay tax when I traded in games
EBGS did not charge tax when I bought on credit

FYE did not pay tax when i traded in games
FYE CHARGED tax when I bought on credit

In Florida it works like this:

BBV does not pay tax to me when I trade in games
BBV CHARGES tax to me when I buy on credit

EBGS does not pay tax when I trade in games
EBGS CHARGES tax when I buy on credit

FYE, I have only done cash trades with

MD gets the short end of the stick.

BBV/GS charge tax on credit
BBV/GS do not pay tax on trade ins

I've learned to take it into account. My spreadsheets always list the full price, including tax.

Just to add on to the CA tax thingy, I remember last year when I bought my Edge (July 2008), that at one point, I didn't pay tax when I flipped some games to buy other games. That didn't last long as I recall, so I'm thinking it was changed this year.

Traded in Ninja Reflex and BotB for My Fitness Coach this morning. Need to find more Wii games but it's pretty barren here.

I bet there are quite a few lurkers around here that cleaned out all the stores. I remember during FF:RoSS, some idiot traded in a lot of it and got banned. Heard it from a BBV manager that also mentioned CAG. I bet he wasnt the only one.

i just tried to return 2 games with gift receipts and the gs manager said i could only exchange them for another game. his reasoning was because the gift receipt doesn't state what form of payment was used on the purchase so they wouldn't know what to give back. i think it was bs, but whatever. the clerk was ready to give me cash back too. it all worked out anyway cause they had 1 wiifit left in stock so i was able to exchange the games towards it. been looking for one for over a week now.

They wouldn't give you store credit?

I asked for a gift receipt when I grabbed RRR TV Party this afternoon, but didn't get one. Not that it really matters since the game was gutted anyway. I hear this game is pretty decent though, so I guess it won't be terrible to keep it.

Once again, I didn't get my magazine subscription. I'm really starting to get annoyed with the fact that GS only seems interested in knowing how they can rip you off. If there's a deal that helps you save money, nobody knows anything.

I also can't find a Wii Fit anywhere, and they claim they have "no knowledge" of when future shipments will come in. I guess I'll be calling back every day until they can give me something a little more definite. My BBV is wiped, but I've got 2 games left, and I'll probably hang onto them until I can find a Wii Fit. I'll be amazed if this promo lasts into February though...at least without the terms changing again anyway.
They wouldn't give you store credit?
nope, manager insisted that i had to exchange them for another game because i was returning with a gift receipt. thought it would be suspicious if i magically came up with the original receipt so i didn't bother going that route. either way, i got my wiifit so im happy.

You say the clerk was going to give you cash when the manager stepped in. Did you ask if you could get it as store credit/on an edge card?

Can't hurt to try Octomania as one of the two Wii games, guys. It's only got a TIV of $3.00 ($0.01 short!), but the manager overrode it and bumped each one to $15 manually. Of course, Edge kicked that up to $16.50.
You say the clerk was going to give you cash when the manager stepped in. Did you ask if you could get it as store credit/on an edge card?
yes, i never even asked for cash and told the manager i was fine with getting a gift card or credit on an edge card. this manager has always been cool with me so it may be policy and he is just one that is actually enforcing it. i don't think he denied me knowing i got the games from the trade promo as he didn't even look at the games i was returning. it isn't really a big deal as im sure there are plenty of ways to get around the whole thing.

What the GS manager told you was complete BS. I returned a DS and Wii game that I bought using this promo (when base TIV was still included), and when the cashier rang up the return with my gift receipts, he knew that they had been purchased with store credit. I was asking for credit back on my Edge card, but he actually gave me cash, which was a pleasant surprise.

I've had that happen in the past at the store I frequent the most.

So I've returned RR TV and 5th grader at one GS (not my normal one)no problem with the original receipts. Didn't say anything but he ended up putting it back on my Edge card (I had asked to put it on one of my GCs) because I "paid" the difference with it. Returned Skate it at another with original receipt (he did look at it closely), but he was able to put it on my GC. Go figure.

Bought an Assassin's Creed DS and Flash Focus from BBV for $7.54. Flipped that to GS for Mystery Files: MillionHeir and $0.76 change back on the ol' Edge card. $6.78 in credit for a game I *really* wanted anyway is good times.

Wish I could find another Flash Focus @ BBV though. I played with it a little B4 flipping and it seemed like a good ~$5 game, just wanted MillionHeir more.

I returned my Skate City Heroes today with gift reciept at a GS I'd never been to. When I first said I wanted to return the game, the GSR said, "It's new." As if that were a reason why I couldn't return it. So I said I knew it was new, that I got it from a friend, and had the gift receipt. He looked absolutely clueless. He didn't say anything to me, just walked over to the manager, who was helping some other people. He finally asked about it and the manager said, "Well we're really not supposed to, but do it anyway."

Now I don't know if this was because the game was opened or what. But that's how GS always gives me new games, other than pre-orders. They have the open, empty boxes on the shelves just like the used games and have the discs in the cabinets behind the counter. I thought it was weird that they give new games already opened, but whatever. I got my $21.61 back.

Oh and another weird thing was I offered to give him my Edge card to swipe for the credit (not the main one, an expired one with no barcode) but he said he couldn't. So he gave me a gift card. Works for me.

So let me get this straight. I go into GS, trade in two crap value games I got from BBV for 10 bucks, buy Skate City Heroes, and they give me the 10.01 on my card, and get a gift receipt? Seems too easy, especially for a GS deal.

Actually no. Since the deal was nerfed, you will get Skate City Heroes and a gift receipt, but instead of an additional $10 credit on your card, you will only get an additional $1 (assuming you don't have to pay tax in your state.)
