The awesome GameTap anniversary deal from last year is back. For a limited time, if you sign up for a year of GameTap, you will pay the equivalent of less than $5/month. This is 50% off the normal price of GameTap. Once subscribed, you will be locked in at this price (possibly forever).

GameTap offers unlimited play of over 1,000 new and old games (and growing every week) across multiple platforms. Not to mention the TV show episodes and video features released each week. Don't forget: challenge play on select games, leaderboards, online message boards, parental controls and more. This IS the best deal in gaming.

GameTap even gets day and date releases with certain games when they release in store. Some recent examples of this include Clive Barker's Jericho and Conflict: Denied Ops.

Please note that some pictures and descriptions above are slightly outdated/inaccurate, as GameTap has recently released a new version of the GameTap Player. TV shows are now on the website, not in the client.

^ It seems there is a problem right now where some free members have access to the entire GameTap catalog, so it is possible they have frozen sign-ups temporarily. Try again later. If the problem persists, post in the Technical Support section of the GameTap forums.

Gametap is a great service, but there are just too many free games now for me to justify signing up again given the small amount of time I get to play. 47 free non-sucky games that won't be rotated until the end of the year is more than I need.
That would be wonderfully appreciated, as if it ends soon, I'll just have to bite the bullet.
Good news! According to various GameTap staff members, the deal will last "for sure through the holidays". It was also said that no official end date has been decided on yet.
This is just an absurdly good deal :)
Which is why I will never understand how most gamers can shrug off GameTap as not something worth their time or money, yet they will gladly spend $5 or more per game on the Wii VC or XBLA (yes I realize that some games are exclusive to the consoles).

I think the main reason is that people don't like the idea that they don't own the games. But if you look at the restrictions other services have, you really don't own those games either. And you're paying a whole lot more money too!

Yeah, exactly. I would have kept my Wii if you actually owned VC games, because there's a LOT of games on there I'd like. But Gametap the DRM's irrelevant, since it's just a rental. Do people avoid Gamefly because it's "just a rental"? Plus at these prices we could stay members forever....

You really have to look at Gametap in terms of how you spend your gaming dollar.

Since they have really expanded their offerings, 60 for a year is a steal when you consider sixty dollars is a brand new console game.

Yes, you never "own" the games, but you have unlimited access to it as long as you want, in a completely legal fashion. Think of it as a premium library, but with video games.

As long as they continue to expand their catalog, it will always be worth sixty bucks.
Oh it's getting expanded. Just wait.
you cant just do that and not explain. SPEAK!!!!

hahaha

I'm just crossing my fingers for a mac deluxe player. It is perfect for the sophisticated mac people lol.

Well, Nov. 1st Talk Like A Pirate day comes a second time around with a one of my favorite games of all time.

And that's just the beginning of the new line up.

As far as Mac Deluxe players are concerned, well. Let's just say i personally own a Mac Book Pro and i'll soon have one less reason to have boot camp installed.

Hmmm

Well they already have a few Sid Meir's games, so maybe the last release of Pirates as their "Secret Game"? More of the latest PC games will be available or increasing their line-up of Dreamcast and Saturn games? Either way you're certainly getting my hopes up!

And that's why hints on the internet are no fun. People are just too smart.:applause:

As far as supporting older stuff goes, it seems like more and more attention is getting put on emulation for the Saturn and Dreamcast....

Oh and its not confirmed but the "real" secret game is a real doozy and hopefully will be released on the 15th of Nov. It's not new, and no, it's not Halo 3 or Mario Galaxy, there are no Sony or Nintendo Published games on the service. But i will say this, it's certainly deserves the honor of the 1000th GameTap game.

I keep hearing "very very soon" but that becomes less credible as the weeks go by.

You might want to hang on to boot camp though if you want to play windows games. Other than that, I'm with you; it'll be nice not having to reboot to play Baseball Stars!

I don't know about that. They've said from the beginning they were looking into Mac support, and it took a few years to get to this point, so it wouldn't shock me if it does come, but takes another year or so.

I'm not sure what would be involved-I mean would they try to support ALL Windows games? I'd think they'd have to tweak that API emulator for each individual game, which could really be a support nightmare.

It is a nightmare, but nonetheless, it's being done as we speak. My sources say as early as December but the latest January. It would work with everything but Windows games, meaning DOS would be fine.

Anyone else have trouble running Overlord on Vista? I'm debating whether it's a hardware error on my end or a Vista thing.

Fallout
Command and Conquer Complete/Red Alert
Soul Calibur I

just a guess....Let's play hot and cold.

OOOH! I know!

The mystery game is (serious guess here)

STARCRAFT BATTLE CHEST!

It makes sense in many ways...maybe not, but worthy of 1000th games status!

SC1 would be awesome but its tough to emulate.
Not sure which versiions you are talking about but C&C and Red Alert are on the service now.
Fallout...would be awesome. I'll have to think about that one.

But nope, the secret game quite a bit newer than any of those.
Half Life?

Diablo is prob too old... and the blizzard thing works agaisnt it.
Valve, Blizzard, Nintendo, and Sony. These guys are hard to get but i wouldn't say never.

Definitely newer than those titles though.

And GameTap loves Diablo "style" games. There may be a critically acclaimed one on the way soon. Real soon.
Hmmm. Only one recent, acclaimed, Diablo-style game comes to mind:

Titan Quest?
It's not game 1000th but i certainly did love Titan Quest.

^ Thanks to member feedback, you can now easily cancel online at any time. However, the deal in this thread involves signing up for a one year plan where you pay the entire amount up front. If you cancel before the one year is over, you are not guaranteed (and very unlikely) to get refunded any of your money. If you are worried about this, I recommend doing the 99 cent 1-month trial first before switching to the $59.95 1-year anniversary deal.
1000th game comes out tomorrow. Speculation on the gametap boards is Civ 4, Burnout, Beowulf or.... Duke Nukem Forever.
One of those is correct.

And even more exciting is my small project (not a game) will be unveiled. Hope all you guys like it.

Well since ads are running for one of those games, it's pretty clear then. Just to see what expansions will be inclded in the gametap release, if any.

That is freakin awesome! Great job.

Though I do have a question. If there are 31 down and 33 across, that makes 1,023. There are 20 Coming Soon blocks. So what are the remaining 3 games?

Good eye, Dirt, Grimm, and Turning Point are all coming soon but thre will be more info on those games soon so they were included.
That is REALLY cool!
I'm so glad I signed up to Gametap.... Civ 4 is gonna keep me busy for a LONG time.
Page not found.... what is/was it?

It's a kind of interactive collage of all the games GameTap has to offer.
It took a few tries for me to get the page to work, and right now it's having issues for me, too.

So it's Civilization 4? I've REALLY wanted to play that. That's awesome. only bad thing is you could probably almost blow a whole year just on that :D

I've gotta love this company, even though I won't be renewing. They sent me user surveys a few times promising a $10 amazon GC. I got through twice, several months apart, and received my first GC several months ago. I just received my 2nd today, so my year of gametap was only ~$40.
So what's the reason for not renewing, if I may ask?
I don't play it enough, I have a huge backlog of console games, and my computer just barely meets requirements for some of the latest games. It's definitely worth the price though for anyone who sees even just a few games they like on there. The free games would even be enough for me right now.

Just keep us in your hearts ;) . There will continually be some great free play games. But yeah, i'm often in the same position with tons of games on the console. If it wasn't for online co-op Metal Slug, Online versus Twinkle Star, and playing the great old RPGs i missed like Planescape Torment, i'd have a harder time fitting it into my schedule.

I'll be building a new machine for what's coming in 08. And for me, it'll be when GameTap is the best deal yet.

Apparantly gametap is pulling about 80 games from their library due to licensing issues. The games will be pulled on 12/11. There's a thread about it over in the gametap forums, and one user has compiled a list of the games that will be pulled.
