w00T! more ebay fodder. The cart was the Zelda vid they just showed.

I was hoping for more revolution info. But from what I had seen rumored in EGM isn't it supposed to be more powerful than the Xbox 360? I thought it was using a similar chip architecture, but one step up.
Seriously..

If you can download Goldeneye and Perfect Dark..

What's to stop them from adding online play?

Online play for Goldeneye and Perfect Dark?

:hot::hot::hot:

EDIT: Revolution accepts Gamecube discs, he announced that.
Unless they can modify them for handling latency the control could get pretty ugly. That issue has plagued previous approaches to virtualizing controls online for games not designed for it going back to the modem product who name I forget for the SNES and Genesis.

based on what you guys are saying, nintendo is TOAST.

they are releasing the same old games again, but online..wtf? this is what we wanted on the GC..I wouldn't be surprised if smash bros. was just a port of the gc version with online play added. After all the revolution is only 2-3x more powerful, so who's to say you can tell the difference?
No new info about the Revolution except for "more info later"
It emulates old nintendo games, has a weird controller, has online play and it's small.
I definitely expected more from the system, but I guess playing nintendo games online is a pretty big plus.

I'm vaguely curious about the ability to download old Nintendo systems' games to the Revolution hard drive, but I also have to wonder if Nintendo is going to charge $20 (or more) per game as they did with the GBA Classics line. I'm all for reliving the good old days, but if purchasing a ROM from Nintendo is going to be more expensive than buying the original cartridge game, I'll stick with my outdated systems.
revolution is definately inferior to the other systems sad to say they made the ability to play older games their selling point
 I'm assuming you've played all three systems about 2 years into their respective life cycles to make this determination...

Physically impossible. Have you seen the cooling solution used by the Xbox 360? It's bigger than the prototype Revolution. You cannot avoid the physical requirements of that many transistors in terms of volume, heat, power draw, etc. The Revolution is going to be a direct upgrade of the GameCube chipset. Just going down to 90 nm manufacturing allows for a major speed boost at low power but I expect they'll do more than that in terms of RAM and graphics pipeline.

That would be the Xband.

Also, what happens if your system breaks and you have to buy a new one. Will you have to buy all the old games you've already purchased again?

OK, let's sum up what we learned:

DS is online "this year"
-Mario Kart
-Animal Crossing
-Tony Hawk

GB Micro announced "this fall"

Revolution announced
-will be smaller than prototype
-512 MB internal flash memory
-SD cards for expanded storage
-wireless controllers
-Backwards compatible with GC
-Wi-Fi enabled
-Online library of past Nintendo games
-Online titles at launch (Smash Bros, FF:CC)

GC Games announced
-Mario Baseball
-Mario Strikers
-DDR Mario Mix
-LoZ
-MP7

What did I miss?

Aside from that. I mean info like actual system specs and concrete knowledge of why the controller is unique instead of just a tease.

What if the revolution allows you to play classic games online using some kind of spoofing to make the connected player look like controller 2? That would be pretty sick and would solve the blunder nintendo made in this generation.
No new info about the Revolution except for "more info later"
Well, they realeased a bunch of stuff earlier today and yesterday. I wasn't really expecting even more info.

They clarified online plans, announced general specs, showed pics of the console, discussed development, announced that this is the actual Phantom, what more did you want?

Hopefully they'd be keeping a record at the other end. I'd also expect your identity can be transported on a memory card like XBL. This would let you go to a friend's house and download games to his unit by inserting your card. The games will only work with your card present to complete the DRM equation, so they can be deleted if the space is needed for something else or left until your next visit.

Pretty much everything except the largest N64 games (RE2 at 64MB) should be a very quick download.

OP updated, thanks for the list!

God mother #$%&ing damned it, maybe the controller is just an atari joystick with an N on the front. Hell, make it red and white even, and throw in a pair of 3d glasses from a box of old Frosted Flakes. I'm ready to know just what the hell this thing is, and if they're finally battling emulation by offering their entire past library online.
Aside from that. I mean info like actual system specs and concrete knowledge of why the controller is unique instead of just a tease.
They likely want to wait until the Xbox 360 is in production so that Microsoft can't beat Nintendo to market with a modified version of it's own tech.
what more did you want?
The Revolution controller, and Revolution gameplay video.

Although I have to admit I'm really charmed that they're making another 2D Mario side-scroller for the GBA (or DS).

System specs, developers onboard, sample footage, release date window, price window, controller features, what exactly makes this a "revolution" (it'd better not be the playing of older games).

Yeah, that was cool footage. It went by so quickly I didn't have time to disect the game. Looks good though.
I'm thinking if the Revolution's controller is touch screen it could handle the control scheme for any game.
I'm pretty sure that has been debunked. From what I have read, it will include some kind of pressure sensitive feature on the handle itself. Again, that's a rumor as well.

Uhhhh, maybe something like why the machine is named the Revolution?

Great, you could play every game badly.

You must have missed the part where you can hook your Virtual Boy to the machine.

Maybe you can't.

Why is it important to tell the difference? I thought Smash Bros. GCN looked really really good.

You see these tech demos running on PS3 and Xbox and think they'll look better than NR when you haven't even seen demos from that. Besides, tech demos are meaningless. Until I see what developers actually can do with the hardware, all these numbers mean nothing.

It may be the most advanced hammer in the world, advanced looking, durable, space age shock-absorbing technology, but the only thing that matters is how well it hits the nails.
Uhhhh, maybe something like why the machine is named the Revolution?
Because instead of real hardware all we're getting so far is spin?
Uhhhh, maybe something like why the machine is named the Revolution?
Yeah. Let's tell our competitors EXACTLY what we are doing while they still have enough time to retool thier own hardware to beat us to market with our own tech.
Aside from that. I mean info like actual system specs and concrete knowledge of why the controller is unique instead of just a tease.
Nope, nothing like that.

They can get away with this. It's not the strongest effort. I mean, they basically took the pirates model of downloading ROMS and might use a tunneling service to give them online multiplayer, and turned it into a system. I'm still curious to see the Rev specs, but judging by the size of it, I don't think it'll be as powerful as the 360 or PS3, which makes me wonder about multi-system games and 3rd party support.

But If the downloadable games are cheap, I'm talking no more than a couple bucks per game, I think this thing will sell like hotcakes.

I really wonder what is under the hood of the Rev

Didn't they also metion a seperate attachment for dvd playback?

wow....was that all Nintendo had to show.......Nice design though.

Problem is their "REVOLUTION" made me feel like i was playing the crappy Aerosmith gun game of the same name.

Something tells me that by the PS4 Generation there will not be Nintendo Hardware.
Yeah. Let's tell our competitors EXACTLY what we are doing while they still have enough time to retool thier own hardware to beat us to market with our own tech.
I think it's a bit late in the game to retool hardware. Sony might be able to squeeze in changes, but not MS. If they want any games for launch, they can't make any big changes, at least not without taking a hit.
Yeah. Let's tell our competitors EXACTLY what we are doing while they still have enough time to retool thier own hardware to beat us to market with our own tech.
Yeah, this way they might get a whole six month on the market before the features are duplicated and the jig is up.

Seriously, at this late point in Microsoft's and Sony's product plans, if they could copy cat Nintendo's features that readily then prepare to be disappointed.

guys, they told us, the downloadable games are the revolutionary part....unless that controller has something really special up it's ass...

I do believe that Logitech got thier wireless controllers to market rather quickly.
Unless it's a huge paradigm shift in how games are controlled, I'd be fairly certain that they could incorporate the tech into thier controllers... even if the launch titles don't support the extended features.
Yeah. Let's tell our competitors EXACTLY what we are doing while they still have enough time to retool thier own hardware to beat us to market with our own tech.
That is so true. The PSP, coming out after the DS, totally copied all of the DS's new features like touchscreen, dual screen, etc....

It was hard to tell. Was the GBA Micro screen smaller than the SP screen? I don't think I could deal with that for long. I didn't bother with GB before GBA due to the screens. I did pick up a Super GamBoy for SNES to get around the problem so I could play the small handful of B&W games I really liked.

I think they'll have hardware, like an attachment for the ps4 and xbox3 so it'll be able to download and play nintendo games

just came up with a name for it: The Nintendo - Leech

The revolution looks nice, the downloadable old games is a cool idea...I just hope they don't get crazy with prices and I hope they can be kept directly on a memory card or something. I do like the idea of being able to play all the old games and the current games on one system.

They still have a lot to prove though as the XBOX 360 and the PS3 are going to be tough to beat. Hopefully with the unanswered questions will come an actual revolution.

The gameboy micro looks sweet. I swore I would never buy a 3rd GBA but I'm a sucker for portability.

All in all though it was a disappointment....not hearing or seeing more of the revolution.

Actually, I'm expected to be disappointed to begin with..
I expect it's only a minor upgrade to thier controller, which is why they're so loath to let the cat out of the bag.

I don't think thats the case....I think Nintendo is firmly entrenching themselves into the younger market.....the market that doesn't need HD to be impressed or an mp3 collection or digital media collection.

Well...what can I say....they like to keep their hardware cheap and reap profits on their software licenses of their popular characters.

I like the Gamecube bwc....but as for the rest of the Nintendo systems......thats what I have mame for....and the N64 library was sorely lacking.
