Gears of War 3: Preorder Thread.

I still think the Epic Edition is totally awesome for what it is! The final installment in any series needs to stand-out and this one rocks-out!
I'll also be picking up the Special Edition Guide! Which looks sexy! And I should be able to pick-up my Retro Lancer tomorrow after work!!! "WINNING"
 
Damn, that's unfortunate (no steelbook with the Epic Edition). I stopped watching at 2:35, that guy sucks at unboxing. I'm going for the L.E. and going to wait for a price drop on the E.E. Thanks for posting the video :)
 
It's like people who do unboxing videos have never heard of tripods. Instead, they always fumble with one hand, talking aloud to us about how they only have one free hand, while breathing heavily, winded from the strenuous exercise of opening a package.

You can see if your local Best Buy is doing a Midnight Opening by scrolling over where it says "Midnight Store Openings."
 
Oh man... I don't know if I should get the game and controller combo from Walmart or get the game from Amazon... I need to decide quickly!

Do you need a new wireless controller?
It doesn't come with a rechargeable battery pack or play and charge kit. It only comes with an exclusive Black Lambent Omen skin on a nice glossy red finish, and the modified D-pad.

Do you want the game on release day?
If yes, Amazon's the choice for release day shipping. If you can wait, Walmart's shipping should arrive during release week, but not the day of. It seems like you can only order the game and controller bundle online for shipping, but if you can get it in-store, disregard my previous statements.

Do you care about character or weapon skins?
Both offer an exclusive Savage Locust skin, and the Walmart bundle will also get you the Infected Omen weapon skins. They're supposed to look amazing in game because of the animated pulse, so it's something to show off.

Do you really enjoy the Gears of War Series and want some useful swag to show it off?
The controller is practical, as you actually use it with the game, as opposed to literally any other merchandise for the game (except the Gears of War Console).

You probably already know the above information, but answering these questions should narrow down which is the better buy.
 
I have a quick question. I have $40 in amazon credit. If I want to pick up Gears 3 to get the $20 credit, and select release date delivery, when will I get billed for the $21? I don't get paid until thursday(dont want to be overdrafted) but don't want to miss out on release date delivery

And I think I saw everything else in his apartment and even out the window instead of seeing the actual product he was unboxing. sigh.

Amazon charges when it ships, so probably Sunday or Monday, most likely Monday.

Ask yourself which is more important to you, $20 or a multiplayer skin? The other crap is useless, so once you answer the above, you'll know which one to get.

Personally, I play alot of MP, so the skins/character are important to me, so I went with the LE (until I found out that my controller (I needed a new one anyway) gave me Adam Fenix with the IO weapon skins as I used the code before 9/9). After that, I switched to the standard.

As foolish as this sounds, the only reason I'm so torn is because I have the LE of the other Gears and would like to complete my collection. Though, the 20 dollars is just way too tempting -- especially with Skyrim coming out.

I had the controller sitting for two weeks unopened. Truth be told, I'm very mad at myself for missing out on Adam Fenix. One thing I don't get is why the controller has the same DLC as the EE. Supposedly, it was only supposed to be one omen weapon. I guess they just changed it to the whole pack.

Conclusively, is there anyone else in the same position as me (has the last 2 LE) and is conflicted? Chances this is just my OCD kicking in.

The controller and the EE were NOT supposed to have the same DLC. Only the Console and the EE were supposed to have both Fenix and the IO skins.

Chris Wynn (Lead Producer for Gears) confirmed via Twitter that Microsoft screwed up on the back end and accidentally had the codes for the controller mapped to download the DLC file that came with the Console/EE. Once Epic was made aware, they fixed the problem.

Aaah, ok. Makes more sense now. If you have the other two LEs and you can afford the $40 difference, go for it!

im in the same boat, after seeing the pics last night of the limited edition im really considering switching to the standard with 20 credit from amazon. but the gears fanboy in me just wont let me :cry: plus i kinda want adam for mp

I though I remember Rod saying that the controller was supposed to only give the IO lancer not the whole pack like the console/EE, but last I checked it said weapon pack.

I'm sort of in that same boat...I have the LE of the first 2 and wanted the 3rd to be the LE also. But what really hooked me on the LE is the metal cog. I have wanted a metal cog like that since Gears 2 came out and they used them for the real life scavanger hunt. Some of those cogs ended up on ebay but for way more then I could afford, so this is close enough. yup, in it for the swag....:cool:
 
These unboxings are making me have second thoughts on my Limited Edition. Now I'm just considering never opening it and maybe selling it on eBay in the future. Do you think it will rise, or drop in value? Also, will the Dom skin be in the box or handed out? I really don't want to open the box just to get the code out...


SN: Anyone interested in Mechanic Baird? I'm getting one with my console, but I want a Locust skin instead of another COG. I'd prefer SGE over S. Kantus.

Yeah I just called and GS said it will be printed on the recipt. It seems BB have their Baird codes on cards though.

I miss the days when I could buy a game at Amazon/BB, then go to my local GS and sweet talk a code out of them. :lol:
 
Is it possible to pre-order from gamestop to get the Dom skin and then return the game after I use the code?

I ask because they don't have any limited edition pre-orders left and best buy did, so I pre-ordered with bestbuy.

GS seems like it will be the only one where a return would work easily. As for the rest:

1) Amazon - A pain for obvious reasons
2) Walmart - All but confirmed that it will be packaged IN the game itself.
3) BB - Rumors have it both as a card and as an e-mail, but nobody has confirmed either way

Regardless, my money is still on all of them coming out as a DLC pack in a month or two. I've said it before, Epic/MS would be stupid not to. Also, this has already been proven by Mortal Kombat, as the retailer exclusive Klassic skins all came out as a bundled DLC pack two months after launch.

I dont think I'll ever hit 100, that 7 million + xp is just fucking crazy! Once you hit level 86 you're only half way there:roll: I finally got my second to last achievement last night (wave 50 on nowhere), level 100 is my last....that I'll never get :cry:

Best buy and gamestop (both in the same shopping center) are having tournaments for free games. And the gamestop manager said she was giving out shirts and key chains so I might go there for the swag.

On another note, I walked through best buy and saw a pile of Halo Reach Legendary editions and Killzone 3 Helgast editions for 79.99. So I'm hoping to snag an Epic Edition somewhere down the line.

Thats what I am hoping for, a $50 epic edition, which I think we'll see with this one.

My kmart and bestbuys have aa lot of both as well. I want a 30 hellghast edition already. These must be two of the most overproduced limited editions ever

I wouldn't risk it if you really want it, they said this was actually limited. Then again they did say the same about Reach...

Yeah, I'd say they overproduce collector's editions for exclusive titles; but my local BB has a ton of AC: Brotherhood Collector's Editions lying around too.

Every game I've gotten from Walmart that included a bonus came with its code in box. Are you sure you're not confusing the eGift card?
 
I preordered at TRU today for $5, the card I received with the receipt reads "Expected in store date: 9/20/11 - 9/27/11" .......The 27th? It better NOT be.
 
I'm not sure if its been posted yet, but the avatar weapons seem to be on sale or dropped in price. I bought the gold lancer for 240msp, and it was 320msp just the other day. I figured you guys on here might be interested.
 
I can't wait!!! I'm going to pick-up my Retro Lancer tomorrow morning!!! They were supposed to be in by today but they said the UPS truck was running behind. Hmmm... All I know is those games better be there before the 19th!!!!
But I will be rocking my Retro Lancer at the midnight release!!!! Yeah I'm a gaming NERD!!!! no costumes though. LOL!!!
