Gears of War 3 - Release Date Sept. 20

Anyone from Sacramento area want a GOW 3 Epic Edition? Bought it from Best buy and decided i don't want it and rather sell it to someone who was looking for one than return it. $65 just basically what i paid.
 
i saw the guy at my local grocery store wearing gears tags. I grinned but I didn't say anything...though looking back, maybe I'll say something next time so during self checkout he might be inclined to assist me should the machine fail to recogniiiize.

I've seen people wear GOW stuff out in public I just smile and keep walking. I've seen the shoes, shirt and a beanie on three different people.
 
shirt and hats don't surprise me, it's pretty common to get videogame clothing from FYE and TRU plus it's pretty goth/metal themed. Skulls and spatter are so much more popular even in baby clothes...but to wear the big honkin COGS? that's dedication holmes.

...now if i can only find the girl wearing the pikachu ears hat.

I have seen other people comment about that. I've never experienced it personally, but I do recall an oddity about the Horde Event ones where they'd actually be awarded when you'd fail a wave, not when you'd complete [10 of] them. I can recall playing Horde with The 7th Number where we got beyond wave 50, and it wasn't until we all failed that I actually got the ribbon. I guess it's lucky for me that the game went further than 50.

i've gotten event ribbons for playing game types not even associated w/the event...just playing public MP. so long as you start and finish the match, vs. getting put in 45 secs before the match ends or being in spectator mode.
 
I saw the pink/purple stripe skin again today and asked the guy what skin it was and he said deadly cute. Not sure why its striped on gnashers and sawed offs. I dont remember seeing it on any rifles, but i thought they were just pure pink, no pattern.

PS jessica nigri is hot!
 
Just a heads up....

RAAMs shadow is 50% off, same with Horde Map pack, avatar boomshield, avatar kryll shield, All Guns skins pack, All Lancer skins pack, All shotgun skins pack. And when i mean ALL i mean the skin packs that unlock every skin for that gun.
 
Im just curious if anyone has this. When i search for a match i get..

and it always connects me to the last possible match. 6 of 6, 9 of 9, 1 of 1. Just wondering if thats gears of war for ya, or my internet connection is to blame.
 
According to Pete Nub on twitter there are only a set number of Gears Event ribbons and they've run through them all and started over. So you will not get a ribbon for participating in an event now if you've participated before.

This of course happens when I'm 29/30 for Socialite.

That doesn't seem right... They had already repeated events like Torque Bow Tag and Boomsnipe even before there had been 30 events total, and you still got another ribbon for it.

Wow that sucks for those who havent gotten it yet. Fortunately for me it glitched that one time and i earned more than enough just by playing normally.

I need 15 more first blood ribbons to onyx that, and 101 more CTL/Guardian matches to onyx that. WOOOO. Still only have a total of 808 wingman matches played though. -_-
 
I guess that also means no re-Onyxing War Supporter for those of us who didn't get in on the early glitch? It's going to be stuck forever at 5/30 or whatever if there are no more distinct ribbons to earn.
 
I think im 2 away from getting war supporter onyx a 2nd time, guess that wont change ever, oh well. I did get my shock trooper onyx tonight. Still need about 58 more CTL/Guardian matches to onyx that. Then its all about Wingman. Not sure if ill play some of those. I know usually they dont have many people in that gametype anyway, and i hate playing with bots.

I think the last medal im gunna have to onyx will be skunker. I think i still need a little less than 1,000 to onyx that. Getting really close to the main goal! :D

That sux. I tried last night, but nothing unlocked. Anyone heard of a 2xp weekend going on? I ended up playing several Standard Playlist games and it looked like I was getting 2000-4000 points a match meaning at lvl 71 I'd rank up in about 12 games which is much faster than normal.
 
I think its more, last night i noticed i had 7,000 xp after one match. I dont really pay attention to xp though since i have red wings and dont care. The arm rip/cog beat down executions still give out massive amounts of XP, so do those when you can. I think they give you as much xp as 2 to 3 kills would.

I tried to tweet to petenub about a gears weekend where everyone in CTL or Guardian would either be prescott or myrrah, like some doppelganger event where you have to kill the right one. Kind of reminds me of playing Arcade turtles where shredder kept turning into multiple shredders and you had to kill the right one. LOL Not sure if that would be possible though.

random question: was the gears of war 3 Limited Edition disc any different from the regular edition? I traded it in when it was like $35 and now I want to replace it.

fuck Epic and their 'we can only do 35 events that you can only get 1 ribbon for, but we decided it'd be best if you didn't see what you had' bullshit. Lazy jackasses. I only need 1 event and now I need to keep going because Epic decided they want to kill Gears dead because they made horrible decisions with multiplayer.

If enough people complain (I couldn't think of a better word) about this decision, maybe they could be persuaded to do what they did in December and have a few Events a week, or at least offer them more regularly now.

Since the achievement and medal both require 30, it's disappointing that they didn't even come up with 60 Events to give people an alternating chance to get it if you miss a weekend due to other obligations.

It almost...almost sounds like a subtle way of saying they're dropping support of the game. How hard is it to come up with a dumb name for an event and a random load-out setup? There are several weapons and playlist for the game...it couldn't take more than an hour to do.

If you traded in the game case, the game case was different between the standard and LE version. Best recurring deal for a used copy I've seen are the gohastings 30% sales - $15 shipped.

I'm kinda not happy with that.

So is there just no further elaboration on the sires and that whole research facility part from Gears 2? Not even in the novels or comic books or whatever? Weird. I always wondered about that. I bet they originally planned for it to factor into some plot twist in Gears 3, but I guess they just went in a different direction.
 
You kind of have to put it together yourself with bits and pieces in the games (a couple things that Niles says, collectibles, a few passages in the books, etc...) to learn that The Sires were humans infected with Lambency and they mutated. Since the facility was opened before the Pendulum Wars (roughly 100 years before E-Day) the Lambency changed what it does to humans between then and the "formers" that we see in Gears 3.

So during the Sires bit, but before those humans fully mutated, their offspring eventually became the humanoid Locust (since they had the lambent genes upon birth as well as the human genes). To that end, the Locust are approximately 100-125 years old. Myrrah was the child of one of the scientists at New Hope and that's how she knows how to make Locust out of the captured humans. She's human which is why the thing at the end of Gears 3 didn't kill her. She was able to get control of the Locust because they weren't at war with the humans when she went to the Nexus. It wasn't until the Lambency started infecting the Locust and turning them into the Drudges and such that Myrrah began having an anti-human point of view, especially after Adam was unable to solve it for her.

There are still lots of loose ends, but in general that's the working theory of what happened.
 
This is probably due more to there being 3 different writers for each game in the series. When a new one comes in they're either uninterested in previous plot options, or they just didn't know where to take it or where the previous writer was planning on going with it.

Similar things happen with movies, which is why it's usually best when you can get as many of the original cast and crew together for a sequel as possible, since it helps keep the continuity of things.

I think this just means people that've missed a certain event will need to wait for it to cycle around again to get it. It's still possible to get War Supporter/Party Animal; but it'll take longer. Unfortunately, this probably also means you can't double-up on this Onyx twice.

Or maybe it's a subtle way of reallocating resources to Gears 4?
 
They're done with the game. Pretty crappy support which is really sad as this has been my favorite in the series. The event calendar never gets updated, and the weekend events are just rehashes. They could have done a double XP event for the holiday weekend and instead we get the "limited" thrashball drone clone again. Sucks I wish they put more effort into supporting it.

Also the game seems to almost be unplayable now, the past 3 days in a row I've rage quit after 2-3 BS matches, most the time now its like I'm shooting blanks. The team that I normally play with are having the same issues too...one buddy of mine was so pissed that he snapped his disc in half :lol:.


I really really really hope I'm wrong. I want more maps, more skins (both characters & weapons).

This. It's great that they released so much DLC so quickly, but it sucks if the game is now done being supported. I honestly don't think there will be another major map pack or campaign expansion, unless it's free, because they already shot their wad on achievements. (I know, achievements are evil, that's not what gaming is about, blah blah, but the fact is that achievements sell DLC.) If there was going to be a Season Pass Part 2, the game would be at 1500 now, not 2000. I could see more weapon skins and characters though.
 
They arent done, cliffy b even said they were working on another story DLC chapter for someone who didnt get much time in gears 3. Aside from that i dont know. Both Day One and River were maps in a leaked list that havent been released yet. Though both those maps would suck balls for Guardian since the leader has to wait 5 seconds before they can move. Maybe they trashed them?

Honestly i wish they would just start making gears of war 4, or gears of war whatever. Gears 3 MP has been a big disappointment. They need to go back to what really made gears of war fun and different. Dark, Gritty, CQC style. Hopefully they have learned from Gears 3 garbage COD style and will go back to please their true fans. But honestly i dont expect another gears of war game until the new xbox comes out, unless that is more than 2 years away.
 
Finally got Socialite.

As for Gears MP, they need to go back to Server Lists and Map Rotations. Those were really great fun CAG Gears Nights.

I wouldn't mind having River for Gears 3 but to be honest I don't want to spend any more money on the map packs. Plus it seems to have enough maps altogether.

I hope its hoffman he is my favorite COG. I hope we get classic hoffman back his GOW 3 suit is shitty and has forced me to use classic marcus for the time being

River had to have been the most played map in GOW 2 -- I'm surprised it never came to a DLC.
 
Id love to see Ruins in Gears 3. Lots of cover to counter the OP rifles, but at the same time it would be a dream map for SOS users. But i really liked that map. Also Security would be nice to get back. Put the digger in where scorcher used to be and you have a way to get people who camp in the mulcher area.
 
I hated ruins. Especially if you had dumb teams mates rush middle and get downed or killed by torque as soon as the game started.

What was that map with the mortar all the way on the right/left it was a snow map pack that was a good map too.
