Gears of War for PC!!!

I'll be picking this up probably Friday. Gonna play @ 1440x900 with 8x AF, that's how I roll all my games. According to what I've seen, my 8800GT KO will put the hurting on this game, so I'm happy. Between this, Crysis, and UT3, I have enough first person shooters to last me a while.

Does Staples sell PC games? My brother loves 360 Gears and wants the PC version, and my Dad has $25 off $50 or more coupons for Staples.

I'm looking at 1280x720, probably everything maxed in DX9. maybe lower AF if the frame rate fluctuates too much.

That's probably how my friend will be running it. I sold him my X1800XT for cheap and he was happy playing FEAR on it, until he played it on mine. Now he wants an 8800GT.

Not good games. At least, not when I worked there, which was for two years ending six months ago. The only mainstream games they had were The Sims and Roller coaster Tycoon.

How does it on lower spec systems? I am just wondering cause I can play Lost Planet on DX9 at almost maxed out settings but I can't play UT3 or Jericho on even the medium settings.

can't wait to pick this up on Friday. Gonna try out the "sample" version tonight if I get a free minute to play ;)

From what it sounds like, GoW runs just like UT3, but slightly less optimized, so you may be out of luck.

Gracias senor. As soon as I read your post I had to close my window too. All of a sudden I heard a knock on my door and sure enough it was my good friend Damon who brought me some Domino's Pizza complete with the noid. Usually I avoid the noid, but not this time!

que puedo decir? Es todo tu crees serlo.

Yeah, 60fps, all kinds of detail you couldn't see clearly before (like shimmering intestines on the inside of chainsawed locusts), pretty much everything I hoped for it to be. and of course, the mouse and keyboard set up feels pretty good. A little awkward to get used to at first if you played the 360 version, but with all the different options for taking cover (double tap "w," hit space bar, mouse 4 or 5 if you got em...) and tighter aiming, it's clearly ahead.

resisting playing any more of this until Friday evening will SUCK.

SPEAK AMERICAN OR GET OUT!

forgot to mention-- you have to force Vsync through nvidia controls. the game's setting has no effect. and it tears like muthafugga with that setting off.

Just got my copy and was flipping through the manual. I noticed that it said if you have an Xbox Live account you don't need to make a Windows Live acct.

So basically if you have Xbox Live gold you have Windows Live Gold?

Yep! you just need your registration email and password.

you even get nerd points for this game.

Nice. Can't wait to crank up the detail on this motherfucker and play it at 1920 X 1200.

please send me a friend request if u plan to play a lot and have a mic.
It runs at 60fps lookin' like that? That's fuckin' nice.
damn straight. I forgot how ridiculous this game looks. haven't even gotten to the truly beautiful parts yet.

I got this yesterday, and after the hour long install it looks absolutely beautiful on my rig.

It runs reasonably well on High settings, although I seem to be having some hitches whenever I enter a room. Its like the game is loading the next room and slowing down. There's never any break in the action, but it still kind of annoying. Anyone know what settings may help that?

I originally thought it was a fragmented drive, but I defragged and it still shows up. I think the problem may be that I have it on my Vista partition. I'm going to install it on XP tonight and see if it makes a difference. I have an 8800GT, 2gigs of RAM and a AMD 4200+.

No dedicated servers, and have P2P games (must be gold to host games)
this game won't last long online (see Shadowrun and Halo 2)
nexT!

you may be right. honestly, I don't plan on lasting long online. Haven't been able to get deep into online play for a year or two. even before that, my online play consisted of DoA4 with Chacrana.

I don't believe for a fucking second that this is running at a liquid smooth frame rate... at all. It's soooooo fucking detailed it's ridiculous. Like, this looks worlds better than the 360 version, and I thought that looked damn good. Wow.

believe it!

only problem (which is a problem for everyone running the game) is that the game stutters for a few seconds when it's loading other stuff up (so at check points and new areas.) otherwise, it's perfect, even in the middle of a huge fight.

AH HA! And I thought it was only me. Where did you read this from?
AH HA! And I thought it was only me. Where did you read this from?
The stutter? I've read it in just about every "impressions" post on various sites. They need to patch that up! I've also hit some other oddities-- when you use a troika, the firing sound drops out after a while and when the berserker smashes columns, all the debris stops in mid-air!

Just finished it for the first time (didn't get the 360 version) and liked it. Ran it on high with everything on it ran well on my 8800 GT. The game play was unique, the graphics were amazing and it was the perfect length for a shooter like that. The game crashed once in vista, had a few studdering problems along the way otherwise it ran well.

IMHO...much better than Halo 3 but not nearly as good as Bioshock or even HL2 Episode 2 in terms of gameplay. Again, just my opinion.

Got to Act 3  going through the factory is one of my favorite parts in the game.
