This Gears Of War theme would be sweet if it got rid of all of the "I played on Emergence Day" crap.

I didn't play on Emergence Day at all, I just downloaded the theme :rofl:

Wow Raam is a pain in the ass on hardcore playing alone! I finalllllllllllllly beat him after many many tooooo many tries. Now for insane....:D

The free pic and themes both sucked, I want the gamerpic you get for beating insane. (the same pic that's beside the achievement for this)

[/quote]Yeah, that's a good one. I think Baird is my favorite out of the four. The dialogue over the radio when Marcus and Dom leave them behind the encampment is just great.

Which is why I really hope they release some kind of content patch where you get to play those parts.

you gotta use the shotgun in EXTREMELY close range only. other than that, it's useless

That's one of the top 3 maps in the game for me. Canals being first and Gridlock being second.

Sorry I had to bail out on you guys last night but I started having problems with the stupid DSL. I'm going to be upgrading to Comcast pretty soon so that should fix it.

I'm in the same boat. Most fights devolve into shotgun dances, and I lose 9/10 times. I will shoot them 3 or 4 times, but some how they gib me in 1 or 2 shots.
 
Would like to remind everyone that Mtv has a special show on Gears of War tonight. It's called Gears Of War: Race to Launch Starts 8:30 Pm Est.
 
Well I've played this enough now to give my mini-review:

I love this game. It has put a smile on my face more times than any game in recent memory (yes even both Halo's). I don't remember being this entertained by a game since... maybe a monkey island.

And to those that whine about it just being repetitive: I really hate tetris, it's always the same shapes dropping, and all you do the entire game, level after level, is drop blocks. Gets old fast.
 
Online is about an 8.0 of 10 and the Campaign is about 8.7..

Online issues.. connecting to games take to long.. you select quick match and a screen comes up for a server to attach to and by the time the screen shows the server and you hit A to connect, then it's either gone or full.. so that sucks.. the maps are okay, kind of small..

Campaign issues... the AI is dumb, your 'sidecar' doesn't always listen to your orders.. the story is short...very short..

bottom line... is it the be all end all shooter that people were hyped into believing??? no.. but it is very good...

No its not. I was totally looking forward to it, seriously, just skip the CE and go for the regular version.

On another note:

yes, a patch is in the works to address the connection issues as well as several other bugs that have been reported. not sure on an exact eta, but it won't be long...

I don't mind so much getting the 'connection lost' screen as I do having to wait for almost a minute and a half for it to refresh the list again afterwards.

I noticed with rank matches, if I chose quick match, let it go to the screen where it shows me the games I should join, if I press X, I can cyle through a couple games, and usually one of those other games I can join.
 
Put some time into single player last night and got stuck at the end of 4. I'm supposed to be leaving the mansion but those two boomers show up on my way to the APC. I can take them out, but I can NEVER get to the APC before the timer runs out. Is there some kind of trick to this?

Played a little bit of MP too. I did leave one game, but that was because the host made it a "first to 19" and I really didn't feel like playing for two hours on the mansion level. That map turns into a snipe fest too quickly. The team that starts at the bottom always has some knucklehead just sniping the entire time and you always have to run down all those steps just to take him out.
 
well, since we are all giving our reviews..

Single player (non-CoOp) an 8 out of 10. I really like the story, but I don't think they really did enough with it.
Plus, the lead up to the General RAAM fight was almost non-existant. He pretty much popped up out of nowhere and the fight was short and easy.

Single player (with CoOp) makes the game a lot less frustrating and would get an 8.3 - 8.5 from me. Although, I wish they could have done a 4 player CoOp and allow you to follow Cole Train and Baird.

Multiplayer is awesome, and easily the best part of the game. Since this will always be compared to Halo, I would say that I prefer this online to Halo 2. It could use a couple more maps and a patch to fix annoying bugs in the game, but it comes in at a 9 for me.
 
Just want to apologize to the guys that I bailed on during a ranked game on Saturday Night/Sunday Morning. My son has been sick, so when he woke up screaming, I had to run and help him out.

To make up for it, I will remind everyone of my awesome grenade skills, and picture perfect job I did of sticking someone with a smoke grenade during 4 on 4 matches earlier in the evening. God that was embarrassing.

You mark my words, this will be coming. I can think of no better / easier way for them to extend the life of this game than to either let you play as Baird/Cole (When they aren't around, they always mention their action over the radio that makes you want to see what they are doing) or to even allow for 4-player co-op.

Yeah this is a dumb question... but you can still get the play as Dom achievements if you play on the same 360 right? I'm not going to play co-op until Thanksgiving with someone coming over.

I had issues where the people with me wouldn't shoot anything unless I start firing at them..or during a big battle I'd kill 99% of them and the other 3 guys would take out the last 1%
 
Anyone else getting constant DREs with this game? It's so annoying. I'm not sure if it is my Xbox or the game. I get a ton of DREs with Burnout Revenge too. LSWII gives me one every so often too but that's about it.

Anyway, I'm in the middle of Chapter 2 (I think) and I'm loving it. Once you adjust to the pacing and method of play it becomes much more enjoyable. At first I kept wanting to run and gun but that just doesn't work. I haven't tried it online yet because I really suck and I'm scared of emo teenagers. Maybe there is a way to play with other people who suck so it's fair... I'll investigate tonight.

Adding me to your friends list and joining a room with me will pretty much guarantee you will be playing with at least one guy who sucks.

But if you play ranked matches, the MS TruSkill system is supposed to automatically place you with people at your skill level.

as i feel i suck too. maybe we can get some co-op action on and get some acheivements.

Yes you can get them on the same X360, doesn't have to be over XBL.
