http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0235960/ Nope, He's Sagacious Zu! (From Jade Empire!)
Heh, I'm talking about the actual in-game character. It's actually quite confusing. I'm assuming that Kim is his first name since everyone else refers to their first name (Marcus, Dom, Cole, etc.). So Kim's last name must be Minh, which I found out when I downloaded the fansite kit. That would make him purportedly Vietnamese or you can also argue Chinese blood but most likely Vietnamese. However, that's another discrepancy in itself because Kim is a well-known Korean name, not a Chinese or Vietnamese name.

I just find it interesting because when there are Asian characters present in a game (or a movie), they are either Chinese or Japanese since those are the two most familiar Asian ethnicities. Rarely will you ever see a southeast Asian face. Sagat was the first. Much like you don't get a clear-cut Irish, Scottish, or Italian character. It's mostly just an amalgamate white-European character.

Yeah, yeah, they are all American...er, COG citizens, so it doesn't matter.

Cole actually is his last name. Somewhere about halfway through Act 3 or the beginning of Act 4 they start calling him Gus. I didn't know who the hell they were talking about until I checked the credits and noticed he was Augustus Cole.

Oh yeah. Forgot. I was thinking Cole Augustus

I must say that since the worldwide launches of GoW, I have thoroughly enjoyed playing with Britons at 3 AM California time, they just brighten my day with their accents, and surprisingly they enjoy teamwork, good job UK, some of my fellow Americans can learn from your teamwork efforts...and your oh so silly dry humor.

I'm having some major GOW ranked problems. I've had to refresh multiple times to get others games to show now, it keeps showing old matchs that don't even exist. This has been a problem the last few days and me and my buddies have been unable to locate eachother. Hope they fix this soon.

Hopefully they fix it so you can't find your buddies soon so the rest of us will play ranked matches :) Until then, the TrueSkill system is meaningless.

Some news on the patch:

Planet Gears of War: What sort of things do you guys have in mind for downloadable content? Are there any plans to extend the single-player game as well as multiplayer?

Cliff: Xbox Live is an umbilical crackpipe that an entire generation of gamers are rapidly becoming addicted to. The versus is where we plan on extending the fun of Gears online and thus any continuation of the single player experience remains to be seen.

Mark: The first update we do will be some housekeeping to take care of a few things we need to adjust. We hope to have that in the pipeline before too long. Unfortunately the certification group at Microsoft shuts down relatively early in December so we’re racing against the clock to try to get it finished and certified for release through the Xbox Live update system. Judging by all the great Xbox360 games that have been released recently these folks deserve to have a great holiday season!

Looks like they plan on releasing it before XMAS

Man, I wish I could play with Brits. All I ever seem to find are rednecks in these games.

I've played with some brits and they were pretty childish, the accent is quite funny though (no offense meant). I also played against a team of Germans, no idea what they were saying but they sounded horrible.

I would give anything to play with a redneck. All I ever play with is people that speak ebonics littered with the "F" word.
I would give anything to play with a redneck. All I ever play with is people that speak ebonics littered with the "F" word.
This is the main reason I like playing with one friend in the same games. So we can go into private chat and I don't have to hear all these idiots. It makes the game easier to enjoy for me. Everytime I am not on private chat I can usually on play a few matches and then I have enough of the idiots.
I would give anything to play with a redneck. All I ever play with is people that speak ebonics littered with the "F" word.
Doesn't annoy me as much as people who say gay this, gay that, and homo this, homo that. It's just annoying. Even more annoying than the "N" word. I usually drop out of matches if I hear the N word.

EDIT: and what is the deal with people's XBL tags?! I was searching for games this one night and came across a host's name that was something like:

I I I I L L I I I

wtf...LOL do you know the shit we would be in if our soldiers in Iraq used "Hey, you! Go right!"
We love playing people like that. Makes it all the more satisfying when we beat the shit outta 'em.
Well, yeah. But it's just annoying because they say that shit only in online video gaming. I bet if they were on the basketball court or the wrestling mat, they would not have much to say.

I know. That's what makes it satisfying. Punk bitches run their mouths online and only online. We just put 'em in their place.

I get your point already. Either you suck, or you have no friends... or your friends suck. You should easily be able to play ranked matchs with your friends and have fun. If you can't get friends to join you in ranked matchs then your not loved.
How many kills do you guys have, I think all gametypes combined I'm right at 762
Right now I'm ranked #414 in Execution with 2,641 kills total.

I'm with Monsta Mack here. MS fucked up by not offering a matchmaking system. Ranked shit ain't fun without friends. Unless I can get somebody to join me, I won't even play them. Teammates are stupid and don't communicate. Some are too busy going for specific kills with specific weapons. Out of all the games I've played, I'd say I've lost less than 30. That's because of teamwork; something you won't get with random douches.

Or maybe you missed the point that the entire purpose of ranked matches in this game, and most games, is to test your skill on your own. The design and intent of ranked matches are so you CAN'T invite your friends, otherwise why not let you invite during a game like a player match?

My skill, or having friends willing to circumvent the rules like you do, has nothing to do with the fact that Ranked Matches are broken.

I shouldn't have to circumvent the rules to compete or have fun in ranked matches.

I'm having a little bit of luck finding people who actually want to talk/strategize online, but it's not enough for me to really depend on them. It's the same problem I've had with CounterStrike and Halo 2 before in the past, so it's not like it's anything new. The best you can do is either:

A) Get at least one other person from your friends list in a match with you

B) Try and talk to your teammates and not get frustrated right off-the-bat if they don't speak. I've done this before and eventually people started talking, and it's not fair to get pissed because they don't exactly have to talk, it's just a courtesy and a smart way to play the game.

Rank doesn't earn you any sort of prize so there's no real reason to get uptight if you lose a match just because other people didn't talk or play as good as you. If you really hate it that much, just go play Player matches and kick the non-talkers out.

Rank does earn you achievements. Its the sole reason why I try to play ranked as much as I can even though it is hard to get a good team unless your hosting and you invite friends or they host and invite you. Once i met a really cool team and we got along well, we kept joining the same host over and over for about 2hrs and it was a blast.

If you happen to lose the match but still get your chainsaw, bow, BOOM, or w/e kills, then there really shouldn't be a problem (not you LP, just whoever is upset with ranked matches)

Oh ok, I see what you mean. My bad.

just finally beat act3 on hardcore after about 60-70 tries. locks up durring the movie afterward and looses my progress.

starting to regret getting this game.

You shouldn't regret getting the game, you should regret not getting an extended warranty.

If you bought your console before January 1, 2006, then you have a warranty extension until January 1, 2007. So send in your console and have it fixed, or take your copy of Gears of War back for a new one.
Anyone up for some online co-op on Insane?
Still looking? When do you usually play? I could probably play for an hour to an hour and a half after midnight EST. Do both players get achievements?

Playing as dom in coop opens up a bunch of extra achievements

The multiplayer in this game is really starting to piss me off. I could spend hours playing crappy matches and with luck I'll eventually find a good match, but man this is just too insane, plus all the bugs/glitches are really upsetting me right now. This was one of my games I could just pick up and play a few matches at a time but now its a hassle. I know that the patch is coming and I pray that it really does help a lot.

Sorry just wanted to vent.

What bugs are you talking about? I haven't noticed too many bugs that occur if you are playing the game as-is and not looking for getting stuck in the wall, fall under maps, etc.
What bugs are you talking about? I haven't noticed too many bugs that occur if you are playing the game as-is and not looking for getting stuck in the wall, fall under maps, etc.
• The chainsaw glitch where you lock up at certain times when using it.
 • When you tag someone with sticky grenades, you still blow up with your victim regardles if you run around a corner or as far away as possible. Doesn't happen all the time but it happens enough.
 • When someone comes at you with a chainsaw and you roll away, you end up in chunks by the time your roll comes to a stop and your enemy is 10 feet away from you doing the chainsaw motion.
 • Falling under maps, thats just weird.

I would call grenade tagging a bug. :)

Seriously though, I don't understand at all why shooting someone holding a grenade doesn't have the same effect as shooting someone with chainsaw up. It should lower their grenades and they should have to roll and reset it. But no, instead, grenade tags have a longer range than chainsaws and shotgun gibbing, and really can't be stopped except to kill or run. Stupid.

But the worst part of grenade tagging is how many people pretty much do nothing but.

I believe they decided to not have an interruption effect for someone holding a grenade is because what if the person isn't tagging? What if he just took out a grenade to toss it around a wall but gets shot from 40 feet away? Does he completely stop in his track? Does he not have the ability to no longer throw the grenade for a second or two? Now, that would be wierd.

Do unto others before others do unto you

I don't think this is a glitch. I'm sure they didn't want you to be able to just rev the chainsaw up and basically instant kill whoever is next to you.

In ranked games you shouldnt be able to invite friends but you should be able to do a party system. What is wrong with that. You arent boosting, you just have a bunch of people that you can work together with. I will say it again, Bungie just knows how to make good games

I agree. After experiencing Halo 2's refined interface, match making, skill system, and customization, not emulating Bungie's multiplayer interface is like not putting ketchup on your burgers.

Its a glitch, i think i wasn't clear of what "Lockup" meant. I mean that sometimes you chainsaw someone and after that you're stuck to the ground, for good, you can't move at all and you remain like this till somoene kills you or match ends.

The interrupt effect should still work on grenades. It wouldn't stop you from throwing it, just tagging.

I would like to see being shot while holding a grenade nullify the B button for the next 5 seconds, that's all. However, if someone sneaks up behind me, and plants it, then I deserved to be tagged.

It's just super retarded when I see a dude coming at me with grenades, I'm in a relatively closed space, I feel I have no choice but to fire at him, but by the time I realize he's not going to die in time, it's too late to run, I have a grenade on my forehead. It's gotten to the point where if I'm in a game where someone just keeps tagging every time they can get grenades first, I usually leave the game.

Another thing. Has anyone else noticed that pressing the right trigger while the chainsaw is out revs it? I have yet to figure out if this has any effect on gameplay, but why else include it? Just neat-o factor?
Hit them in the head with the shotty (or use an active reload shot with that or the BOOM/Sniper) and grenadier problem solved.
Yeah that does work. But essentially you are saying with any match that just has a suicide grenade tagger (or two) running rampant, that I have to basically be prepared for them the entire game. (shotty out -pray that i'm accurate, or active reload weapons)... at which point, the match really isn't fun.

I'm not arguing there is no counter to grenade tagging. I'm arguing that it is A)overpowered and B)ruins the fun of a match when certain players just use it constantly.

I gotta admit though its hella fun to be on the side of the person taging someone with the grenade.
I gotta admit though its hella fun to be on the side of the person taging someone with the grenade.
It's fun, and I do it sometimes. But I only feel good about it if it was more of a stealth attack. If I just zig zag up to someone because I know they will have a bitch of a time stopping me and I can tag them 10 feet away, I feel pretty cheap*, and agree with the other players when I'm called cheap.

(*cheap= I suck, and can't win any other way, like most grenade taggers)

If I have to resort to a grenade tag to win a match, I call it a sloppy win, and admit to it vocally to all the players. I was clearly being out played with guns and had to resort to cheap tactics to win.

This has happened to me twice, and I don't even own the game and play it that often.

Overall, I have a pretty big problem with your character's mobility in this game. First of all, if you want to alight/jump down from any step or structure that you can jump onto/off of, you must approach it head-on, perpendicularly. So many times have I been "cornered" because I went to dive off a ledge only to find it simply won't let me, leaving me spinning in place at the edge of the ledge. I have also been stuck trying to get up a stairstep because I, in the heat of battle, was incapable of focusing on lining up my approach to the edge at the specified angle. And of course, there is the process in which you must take cover behind anything you want to jump over, which can really stall the rush at the beginning of the match, or your escape from a baddie.

I also dislike how A functions as the RUN button as well as the STOP FOR COVER button, which are basically the exact opposite actions ("fight or flight" all in the same button!), but I won't complain about that since it can be worked around.
i wonder when GOW2 will come.
I definetly don't want them to rush it, but it would be interesting to see a system seller 3 years in a row in November (guessing that Halo 3 will be Nov 2007)

I would venture to say that most are after the grenade tag achievement or maybe even the Cluster-whatever achievement. It is one of the best options though when you are outnumbered, though, giving it huge reason to be on every map. With that being said, I prefer the maps that only have 1 stash of the grenades, rather than those that have 1+ stashes for both sides. Canals is the only map that comes to mind for that example.

The Cluster Luck achievement can only be achieved through single-player campaign. To my knowledge, there are no unranked casual online match achievements. If anyone wants to know an easy way of getting it, let me know.

Grenade tagging is a kill, but a cheese kill nonetheless. Street Fighter fans know well what a cheese is. It's just that in GoW, it happens way too damn often and as with all online games, not everyone has the character and personality to accept that it's a cheese win. It's more along the lines of "LOL, that's right bitches" or whatever lines punk bitches can conjure up. If I do tag someone, I most usually say "sorry for the cheese" in the lobby. It's a Street Fighter habit that I grew up with.
