The reason I play ranked matches has nothing to do with rank or achievements. No good players, play player matches. It's hard enough to find any competition in this game, player matches are too easy.
That's perfectly acceptable. You are SUPPOSE to play ranked matches to let the TrueSkill matchmaking system try and set up a good challenge for you. But if people are able to have their buddies in the game, that all goes out the window.

The real answer to all this is they need a third tier of Mutliplayer for clans. Player match, Ranked match, and Clan Match. I am sure it's coming eventually.

But there is a lot of people out there that WANT to play ranked matches to take advantage of the TrueSkill matchmaking system, and that's what Ranked Matches are for. Whether you think it really works or not is irrelevant, and not an excuse to cheat it.

Edit: doesn't this patch mean they will reset the leaderboards? I sure hope so.

As an Achievement Whore, I personally don't care about the stats, so the ranked matches aren't for me but since that's where the achievements are at, I have to play them. I do have more fun in player matches but our beef with Epic is why weren't the achivements accessible through Ranked or Player matches. Why is it such a big deal to them. I understand that there are cheaters out there but who cares. If I chainsawed 100 players in unranked matches, why shouldn't i get the achievment. Why should I be forced to play with strangers.

I know what you're going to say, If I don't like it don't play ranked...
-Riiiiiiiight....The thing is I care about achievments and I hate most of the ranked matches so I'm torn. Most of us are just disapointed that we didnt get a clan like system for ranked matches. Whats so wrong about playing Team Ranked games. Why couldn't you start a room with 4 friends and search for 4 more peolple!? Come one Epic get with it!

Linkin, you get bring up a good point, and I think the real answer to this, in the short term at least, is allowing the achievements to be unlocked in player matches.

It still isn't going to be very hard to join friends in ranked games. Everytime I've played ranked games with Trakan and Zew, Trakan's name was always in like the top 5 on the games just made. Just look for the map we're playing and look for the game with 1/8 people.

If they would just say something like "Yes, we are working on a type of matchmaking to play with your friends" it be alot better, but they haven't said a word about it. Even if they just did the "couch" feature, or whatever it was in Halo, where your friends would automatically join the same game you are things would be so much better.

As for the player matches, whats stopping some one from just up and quitting a match when they are getting shut out after a few rounds. Thats why those matches suck, people are constantly leaving if the game isn't going their way.

My experience has been the same for ranked matches. People quit all the time.

The name-drop news is preposterous. Yes, I'm being a whiny little bitch, but when the public makes Epic even more filthy fuckin rich, they should listen to their fans.

I've been complaining since Gears released about how the matchmaking is so poor, but I've managed to tire through searching for my friends' gamertags' in order to play with them.

I doubt that I'll play much more after the new maps wear off.
My experience has been the same for ranked matches. People quit all the time.
I have been known to leave early
If no one on my team comunicates and they all simply suck, I don't put up with it for X number of matches I leave and I'll continue to do so even with the -50 pts upcoming "fix".

Mark at epic stated that this is the first update and they are working on other stuff. Would have been nice if they atleast mentioned what they plan to come out with like Mattte mentioned but they always gotta BS and be secretive :bomb:.

If they want to do the whole clan match thing, that's fine. They need to wait until that system is also in place before they drop the host name from the list. It's not going to happen, but it'd please everybody.

The TrueSkill matchmaking system sucks. I was ranked in the top 500 for a while, and was still getting matched up with people who just bought the game that day. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. The number of people who actually WANT to play ranked matches with random teammates is less than 1% of the total people who play this game. I guarantee it. The other fix is to allow the achievements to be obtained in player matches. I'm fine with that too, but that's not going to happen either.
My experience has been the same for ranked matches. People quit all the time.
Exactly, and it's worse because you are now short a teammate for the duration unlike player where someone new can join.

I agree achievements should be in both player and ranked, at least some of them, however blaming the ranked match system is ignorance. People are focusing on the wrong problem.

Personally I'll leave a ranked match before it begins if I see people trying to stack teams. If you cannot make teamwork "work" without your friends, than the problem isn't with the system, it's with the player.
The TrueSkill matchmaking system sucks.
I'm not so sure it works yet... but to be fair, there hasn't been too many games with matchmaking.

Gears of War doesn't have matchmaking. It has the "room" system, where people can choose to join; the game doesn't do it for them.

I kinda wish this game had matchmaking, because I always choose the wrong team. ALWAYS.

uh, if you notice the trend of changes they are trying to prevent friends from playing each other in ranked matches to level the playing field.

If you play ranked matches it should be with random people every time. You'll get some good players, you'll get some bad. That's just the mixed bag and you won't be cheating anyone else.

Microsoft is very secretive about how TruSkill works but they insinuate that it's more complicated than just matching up with players close to you in the leader board.

I was under the impression that it isn't entirely game specific. I believe that if you tend to be high on leader boards for other games, it will match you hire on other games too (taking into account lots of weighing for that specific game and other complex calculations).

I could be totally wrong though. And if I am, then how is it suppose to match people that just bought the game if there aren't enough of them on at once? I am sure it probably looks for other noobs, but if there aren't enough to fill a game it will bring in others...

Technically couldn't it only provide you with a list of people who are at your skill level?

Also didn't MS say every game that has multiplayer has to ship with it?

It could, but it - in this instance - clearly doesn't.

I have to assume that shit only works with matchmaking systems... and Gears of War just doesn't have it.

I have never played a ranked Gears Of War game because you couldn't play with friends. From all the feedback Epic's been receiving from gamers and the gaming press you'd think a better matchmaking system would be their number one priority.

It's starting to become pretty apparent that we are not going to see a Halo 2 style party system on Xbox Live until Halo 3 is released. I think its sad. Halo 2 showed everyone how ranked online team games should be handled and no one has followed their lead.

It's so frustrating because, when I played Halo 2, I felt like the party system was a huge leap for online gaming in general, but it turned out to be nothing more than an anomaly. That system should be standard for all Xbox 360 online team games and Microsoft should supply the developers with a party system framework to make it possible. Hell they own Bungie, which means they own their code... You have an algorithm that works, do yourself a favor and make it an Xbox 360 standard!

Well thrustbucket got his wish, and I'm glad he did.
One of my buddies, or u could say that, went Rebel on me and has been playing with the #1 guy on warzone 24/7 because It's easier for him to get wins and such. Now with the new system It's still possible for peope to do this via quitting and re-joining over and over, becuase while you don't see the creators NAME you can STILL see the map! So I could send a voice msg to everyone stating I'm doing 18 rounds mansion, and if im the only Mansion they can still see that...

Regardless, I'm still pretty good at this game and can do the asskicking myself. My only problem is I need 10k kills for the "Seriously?" achivement, which is not possible in player matchs.

I am so hyped!
This week will be great.
Tomorrow GOW patch.
Then Wens. Ms. Pac-Man(which isn't too thrilling) and GOW maps!
Thursday-Friday, Time to enjoy the maps.

 the weakest part of the game has yet to be fixed... the lobby/matchmaking/online setup is horrible in comparison even to other games with crappy online games (but apparently good lobbys >_< ). Epic, learn something and stop being an ass like this:

At the very least, let us do this with player matches!

I hope they make a multiplayer map with a berserker running loose throughout the level, responding to both weapon fire and the player's voice through the headset.

Does the patch updates affect offline system-link play? If so, what if the other person doesn't have the update yet? Aw shit! Now how am I gonna get the two maps for my friend (who swears that he will no buy a router even though he already has cable internet set up).

I was lookin forward to the patch, threw in some gears and now my 360 is all messed up. Time for my 2nd coffin wohoo!

i think epic is used to making PC games, so they are more prone to creating patches against cheating...that's why they did the whole host name deletion...they don't want people helping other people cheat to get wins...

Great IDEA!!!:applause: :applause: :applause:

I believe GOW is almost strictly a strategic game and as such requires cooperation in multiplayer. Epic should allow people to make clans and every clan has its own rank as well as every player in that clan. Then they can have clan vs. clan ranked matches. Problem solved and everyone's happy- get on that shit Epic!

Exactly my feelings. Please drop your True Skill shit, MS. It's a joke.

I cant look for my friends games now. They're taking out looking for the host name.

This game just achieved the gayness level 1000 pts.

"Removed host name from Ranked match server browser"

You still can find your friends in unranked games. What they need to do is make a party system (similar to Halo) that allows you to still join together on the same team for ranked matches. Removing the host name was just a quick solution to eliminating cheaters for ranked games.

BINGO i play with 3 friends religiously every night in ranked matches and even still we will play with 8 close friends for fun. Why should they take out a feature that has no bearing on me stacking. Lame as effing hell man. Now i'm just waiting for zoglogs response about me cheating.

I hate this for a different reason. Anytime I play I check to make sure I am not playing with people from UK, Mexico, etc... as the lag becomes too great when outside the US.

no matter what you guys did with your friends in ranked matches, majority of rank matches were total bullshit because of people wanting to stack, it fucking blows. thanks Epic!

ranked matches suck period.

Every time i jump into one, there's some fruity white guy making racist comments towards a black guy on the other team.

...thus another reason why we need friends on ranked.

I'll respond. From your description there is really no reason why you must play ranked matches anyway. You'll have just as much fun with your friends playing player matches where the designers of this game intended friends to meet and play.

Then some day when Epic gets around to creating a clan matching system, you can do that.

Fixed.

Very few people play player matches.

It's not fun beating up the same people/friends (ranked matches lead to new players.)

People quit more often in player matches.

No sense of accomplishment (ranked matches earn achievements).

Everyone who thinks that removing the host name is the minority. It sounds like zoglog and thrustbucket either didn't play GoW all that often or enjoyed themselves enough in player matches, why are you both so hell bent on being the Devil's advocate?

Like I said before, I play GOW nearly every night for 2 or 3 hours with my 5-6 friends. We have done this since launch, and we have done this always on player match.

It does suck that we don't get achievements but I would feel like a real asshole stacking a ranked match and then waiting for suckers to fill the rest of the space who are (should be) hoping to join a game of random players.

I also get bored of a map after 6 rounds and it's mighty convenient to just let the next map in the cycle load while keeping all the players. This convenience alone is more vital to me than leaderboards or achievements.

Making long ass games on the same map because re hosting a game is a pain is stuipid.

I really don't get you guys. Playing the game with your friends is what's fun, and that's what player match provides. Achievements and leaderboards are neat, but they aren't reason enough to go through the hassle of stacking ranked matches.

When you tag is the explosion going to be smaller? If kept the same it is going make it pointless to do so and the amount of suicides that occur while tagging is going to skyrocket.

Noobs shouldn't have been bitching about this in the first place. Reminds me of the changes to Battlefield that ended up being for the worse because people who sucked complained too much about getting killed. If you get tagged, more than likely it is because you were not paying attention or weren't putting enough lead into the tagger to down him. Taggers are not hard to kill and IMO this change is going to negatively impact the game (anyone who is the last person alive is going to have even less of a chance to survive).

I don't notice anything different with frag tag. I still can and get tagged from about 7 feet. I was thinking more like 3 feet?

Caseyryback is right; it'll decrease your chance of survival as the last one left. But it will also discourage Ramboism. But like I said, it feels the same.

So the patch is up?
So the patch is up?
SHIT! I don't know. I just assumed it was up because you guys were talking about not having the host name displayed. LOL! Maybe it isn't up yet?
SHIT! I don't know. I just assumed it was up because you guys were talking about not having the host name displayed. LOL! Maybe it isn't up yet?
When its up, it will prompt you to load up the patch and kick you out of XBL then loading bar should show up and when its done it should restart the game. Thats normally how it works anyway.

The patch is up

Now for a few points:

The map packs arent free. They are being sponserd by discovery channel which means if discovery didnt sponser we would be paying(someone pointed this out on epic forums)

Trying to seperate friends in ranked is dumb. People who argue otherwise, think about this. What is your number one arguement? That achievements dont matter? If they dont then why not let us who care get the damn option to play with friends.

Trueskill is not, I REPEAT, is not about how you play on your own. Brett Favre is a great QB, look at his rookie offensive line and how he got sacked so many times this season. Does that take away from him being good? No, but you put a guy like Tom Brady(whom i hate!) behind his veteran offensive line and you got a much more competitve ball game. Competetion exist best in ranked, where stats are on the line, which is why we want to play fucking teams on ranked epic!

Edit:

After playing ranked post patch, right now it seems like a lot less people are playing ranked. Too early to tell but ive seldom had it where the list of 7/7 Warzone doesnt scroll down...and i play anywhere from 11 am to 5 am.

Come back when you have an understanding of the English language, then we can talk.
Trueskill is not, I REPEAT, is not about how you play on your own.
But playing well on your own can also translate into playing well on a team. Since we are on sports analogy, just look at the Brazilian national soccer team individuals compared to say, France or Italy as a whole (always room to argue).

Would like to see Carson Palmer behind GB offensive line. :p
Come back when you have an understanding of the English language, then we can talk.
Okay.

Why do you need to play ranked games so badly? To get achievements? Oh, so you must have been one of those rank whores from halo 2, then?

Im gonna start glitching in ranked games, cause it makes the game more fun and helps me get my achievements. If Epic tries to stop me, im gonna raise hell!

Seems like tagging is really wonky now, sometimes it gives it at a distance, other times you won't even stick them tapping their shoulders.
