GGs jer. Anytime you want to play, hit me up. :)

I'm pretty bad at SFIV. It's not that I can't do moves. I'm working on the hard trials and having almost no problems. It's just that this game feels weird compared to ST/3S. Lots of safe moves. It doesn't feel as solid IMO. Still having fun though.

I just suck, I guess.

can someone please explain what are the advantages of doing dash cancels or ex focus cancels? i read about this in the strategy guide, but why the heck would u wanna cancel a move?

I just spent 6 hours practicing my Sagat online.

Racked up a bunch of wins. Sagat is probably my main over Sakura now.
I broke my previous ranked match win streak of 12, to 15.

I feel like I'm getting better and better at SFIV, but I'm not sure what else there is to do to get better.

I guess just keep playing. Practice makes perfect.

Because sometimes doing a move at the wrong time can screw you. There's plenty of times where I wish I hadn't thrown out a Tiger Knee or Tiger Uppercut. If it's blocked, you're wide open for attack.
 I just unlocked something you can't get in the 360 version and I don't know how...

I unlocked for Home Dan's Saikyo shirt... that made me pretty damn happy since it's actually something I'm proud to wear in home.

I'm more and more happy with my dan, and more and more sad with how many shotos I see online.
I'm really glad that's a PS3 exclusive.

Is Dan not considered a shoto because of how pathetic he is?

It gives you a way to safely execute an ultra, albeit for less damage.

If you're playing against someone good, they're not go leave you any openings to throw an ultra out without linking it from a fadc.

Its the only way for a lot of characters to ultra from anything.

dumb question but I am going to bed in a bit so I don't want to turn the game on to cofirm:

are back dash cancels allowed or is it only forward?

Dan's not a shoto since his moves differ greatly from shotos. fireball is limited, his QCB is entirely different on ground and air... his koryuken use to be different in the 2d versions but I don't know if it is in SFIV... in 2D it would randomly be unblockable.

if sagat is considered a shoto then dan would be.

thanks for the quick replies guys!
its funn learning more advance stuff...

trying to get solid with blanka!

does anyone know how to do his.
1) bite?
2) bite then throw?

i saw it in a few videos.

and and whats pianoing? i keep seeing it on srk forums lol

also is there a way to like save up charges to do his horizontal roll attack?

You mean his throw? Light Kick + Light Punch.
You mean his throw? Light Kick + Light Punch.
no like... he jumps on the other person bites them then throws them backwards

what are crumple moves or... crumples?
what are crumple moves or... crumples?
It's just a lv2/3 focus/saving attack that successfully landed on the opponent.
Am I the only player here with Dan as a main?
I main him against sagat players so I can taunt while ducking under standing tiger shots and taunt in the air while jumping over crouching ones.

Its so great!

Hey, how do you guys feel about King of Fighters 99 or KOF 2000? Definitely worth picking up, or not so much? I remember liking the striker system back in the day, but I dunno.

I can't decide who I should learn as my non shoto. I like viper, but her shit is so technical. Some of the combos and things you have to learn as her are just insanely hard. You need superhuman reflexes for that shit. I also like Balrog, but that $$$$a is heavy and I suck with charge characters. I also really like abel.

What do you guys think?

I'm really mad. My fightpad just won't recognize QCF while my character's facing the right side anymore. No matter how hard I try, no matter how many times I do it, it always recognizes it as FDF (Forward, Down, Forward). And because MadCatz underproduced the darn thing, I can't go out and get a replacement.

This happens to all of them.

Picking up on what system? I like the NESTS Saga collection for import PS2. It has both versions of '99 available. I can't remember if it runs in pro scan but I can check if you need to know. I think it's a "Greatest Hits" thing in Japan now so it should be cheap.

Viper does have a bit steep of a learning curve, so I've started using Bison a lot more now til' I can stick an octagonal gate in my stick. I was off yesterday though, everytime I was gonna combo into a super/ultra, I ended up teleporting and I got my ass handed to me by Chun Li :/
This happens to all of them.
So what you're saying is I'm screwed? I can't call them (MadCatz) up and they'll replace it?

Probably not.

They have production issues with their slaves in china.

Guessing they wouldn't fix it, either. Even though it's still under their warranty.

same the movement is basically the same, i did it incredibly slow in training mode and he still teleported :bomb::bomb:

I still like both of them. '99 brought in some characters that I like to use, mainly K'. 2000 is really sweet, better than '99 IMO, and definitely way better than 2001 : The Shitfest.
can someone please explain what are the advantages of doing dash cancels or ex focus cancels? i read about this in the strategy guide, but why the heck would u wanna cancel a move?
two reasons to do focus cancel,

one is to safely recover from a blocked move that would leave you hella open to attack (i.e. a shoryuken)

another reason is to extend combos, similar to Guilty Gear roman cancels. For example, with Ryu you can do fierce punch -> jab shoryu -> focus cancel -> ultra.
dumb question but I am going to bed in a bit so I don't want to turn the game on to cofirm:

you can dash fancel out of focus charge both forwards and backwards.

btw, when I get my PS3 copy we should play. I'll beat you until you stop using Dan lol

his bite is a regular throw, his throw is a backwards throw, there is no bite and throw.

piano is hitting multiple buttons to do a rapid button execution move. For example, to do electricity you need to mash punch 5 times. You can choose one punch button, and repeatedly mash on it til the move comes out, or you can do a "piano" style move on your joystick where you use all your fingers and hit all 3 punch buttons in a rapid succession. This makes your move come out much faster, and the last button pressed prior to the move coming out determines the strength of the move.

as far saving charging, any particular examples?? It is hard btw, I have a lot of trouble doing horizontal balls out of jump ins.
My favorite super is gone. My chains are gone. The fun is gone.

Someone post a video or something that will keep me playing Gen :whistle2:?
lol, stop playing Gen. I tried him, he's tough. If u reall wanna play him, wait for sum1 else to learn him lol

can u focus absorb super moves or ultra combos?

well like how do u save charge a horizontal roll? i didnt even know u could doit lol.

and how do u dash cancel i see people doit but when i try it i cant pull it off, say after a horiz roll, do u dash forward twice before it hits or after it hits? and how do u ex cancel?
Anyone want to go a few rounds?

I've decided I'll learn Abel next. I want to get better with ken first though.
ill do a few rounds...though i suck though XD

god just lost to a sagat, he kept tigering and the duck is too slow sometimes, or when id vertical roll hed tiger uppercut lol
almost beat him both rounds though. its fun playing against shotos when theyre trying to keep blanka at distance then hiding under then slide hitting them

finally having some kind of strategy... woo!! thanks for answering my various questions guys, donno whats prioritized over what and what can block what...

any tips on canceling stuff?

what moves exactly can be canceled? only supers or like the normal horz roll?

focus charge has one point of "EX Armor" in it, so it can absorb one hit. Since Supers and Ultras are multi hit, the focus can at best absorb the first hit, but you will still get hit by the combo since you are unable to block after the absorption.

Also sum moves can break armor, these are listed in the movelist. (Horizontal Blanka Ball, hurricane kick are examples of armor breaking moves)

in regards to charge saving, say for example u want to do jump in Roundhouse, cr. short, blanka ball. You would jump in and immediately hold back, hit roundhouse, land, move your joystick to down-back, hit short, then hit forward and punch. Since you have been holding the stick back the whole time, that would count as your charge. However, if you're holding forward and cross over your opponent so that your forward switches to a backwards, that is not considered a charge unfortunately.

lol, does that make any sense??

there's a charging property with the focus attack as well, I'll explain that later.

lastly, focus dash cancels and EX cancels are the same thing, except one performs a focus attack, the other performs a dash cancel which interrupts the actual focus attack.

so see a basic EX cancel choose Ryu. Do a close standing fierce and immediately press mp+mk, you will flash gold and cancel the recovery of the fierce punch into a focus attack. Furthermore, instead of jus pressing mp+mk you can hold it down and you will do focus charge.

To see focus dash cancel (FADC), do the same close fierce except input your focus cancel as toward+mp+mk, toward or backwards+mp+mk, backwards. This is similar to roman canceling in Guilty Gear. You will flash gold but instead of performing a focus attack, you will either dash forward or backwards.

hope that helps.

about the charging property of focus attacks>>

holding your focus has a property in it that registers a down-back charge for your character, allowing charge move characters to follow up with a charge move during their combo.

let's say I hold down my focus for 30 frames, either the game gives you 30 frames of charge, or it gives you a standard amount regardless of how long you hold down the focus. I really dont kno for sure, but testing this with both level 2 and 3 focus I believe it to be the latter (i.e. a set amount of charge)

so with Blanka I could hold focus while leaving my joystick in NEUTRAL. Release focus, IMMEDIATELY tap toward, toward to buffer my forward dash, then IMMEDIATELY hold my joystick down-back to go back into charging. Once The dash comes out and I recover, I can do a crouching short into Blanka Ball. The system gave me enough charge to be able to execute the Blanka Ball after the crouching short, altho I do have to wait like a split second after dashing forward (i.e. had I done the cr.short IMMEDIATELY after the dash, my ball wouldnt have came out, but had I waited to long to do the cr.short, the opponent woulda falled back and the combo wouldnt work... plz practice on your own to understand this)

my favorite combo is focus attack, cr. short, blanka ball XX super!!!
Cool, I'll pick up 2000 then. DC version, since it has the awesome arranged soundtrack.
PS2 version does too, and it's dirt cheap. US version comes with a free KOF2001 Special Collector's Edition Drink Coaster.

Furashu, have you gone through Challenge Mode at all???

That pretty much gives you the basic rundown for all the characters, oh and read the manual, I learned how to cancel out of a Focus attack and other basic things from there.

Hai guys.. I got all costumes, taunts, and all characters except Seth unlocked. So.. I was in arcade mode playing with Balrog. Please tell me why I ultra combo'd Chun-Li and he says something like "Even after this I bet I could still make money off of you." I was thinking.. what? And then in his ending movie he opens a filing cabinet with this gloves on... does that guy ever take his gloves off of?

thanks jekki for all the info ive been wondering all that stuff and learning as i go. very helpful information :D

yeah Inf^shini i did read it and ive been doing the challenge mode but got stuck on trial 4 for blanka as i did not know the timing of the cancels

Yea I know how that is >.>

I gotta keep going at it til' I find the correct timing and even then I still have to practice to execute it consistently.

Right now I'm stuck on Bison's trial 4 at the part where you have to go knee press>Super. I don't know why I can't get it out :bomb:

I spent quite a while today practicing FADC through fireballs, since it's pretty important for chun. It's not that hard, builds a ton of revenge too.

Can you FADC through fireballs quickly enough that you can basically run up on someone who's spamming them?
