Well, if you're willing to import, then the "gem box" just opened up big time.

But now that y'all mention it, I need to pick up Red Star, Way of the Samurai, and Ico one of these days...

Tell me of these import gems. I already have some, but I'm always looking for more. :)

If it's a Cave shmup, I already gots it.

Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are pretty good hidden gems.

Also, I ordered NG:Sigma on ebay for about 18 shipped and the guy sent me a mint and complete collector's edition with the bonus disc sealed! Woo! Worst CE ever, but I guess it counts as the only rare PS3 game/edition.

Hmm..

Well, I've already have it preordered at Amazon for $79.99 w/ no tax and free 2 day shipping.

I'll probably just stick with that.

That's fucking awesome! I almost got the NG:CE for a similar price off of ebay, but when I asked the guy on the condition and after he got back to me he canceled it and relisted it at about triple the price.

Well, I would've recommended the Cave shmups, but Homura is also kind of cool. I'd also recommend fighters like Hokuto no Ken. There's also the Sega Ages series of classic game collections. I dunno, sounds like you got a handle on those anyway.

Now you got me thinking about all the PS2 stuff I missed, so here's my list, in no particular order:

The Red Star
Ico
Way of the Samurai
Zone of the Enders Second Runner
Haunting Ground (I kept passing this over when it was clearanced for $10 hurr)
Sky Gunner
Crimson Sea 2
Heavenly Guardian
Klonoa 2

I'm sure there's some more, but that's all I can think of right now. >_
11 bucks for standard 2-7 business day delivery. came out to 72.53 for me. priority is 17.00.
Yeah, and they dont have a free shipping or coupon codes.

I dont have Prime, might as well just hit on it anyway, no other way I'm gonna be getting one...just hope it stays that price.

Hidden gems of the PS2? Off the top of my head...

1. The Sega Genesis Collection - About 30 awesome Genesis games for $20. To quote Bubsy, "What could possibly go wrong?"

2. Taito Legends 2 - Three words... Hat. Trick. Hero.

3. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns - The only way we'll ever see Hogan vs. Austin. About $10 and made of 2.5-D win.

4. Rumble Roses - Sure, it's a little slutty, put the gameplay is solid and the production values are excellent.

5. Raw Danger - One of the most underrated PS2 games I've ever played. Think Disaster: Day of Crisis without the shooting. It's you verses Mother Nature during her monthlies. It's a 'survival' game without the 'horror'. Highly recommended.
I love Hokuto no Ken.
Sir, you have excellent taste. I LOVE Fist of the Northstar! I remember renting the VHS back in the day and getting my mind blown..
urban reign is a hidden gem. best 4P party game on PS2 IMHO.
I wanted to like that game so badly. But the enemies are controller-throwingy cheap. :p

You got the Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box? 480p Gunstar and Alien Soldier. Nights remake is also supposed to be pretty boss.

The only fighter I don't know if you have is Samurai Spirits Tenkaichi, though I haven't put enough time into it to recommend it myself.
So GGT, recommend some hidden PS2 gems for me. I tend to like almost anything IF it's good. Though I already have a good size PS2 collection, I'd like to round it out with some more goodness.
Klanoa 2 :whee:

And I saw someone else recommend it earlier but Psi-Ops was great IMO. I remember getting it for the Xbox for shits and giggles back in the day and I wasn't expecting it to be so good. Maybe I got as part of the EB morning update or something. But anyway, I ended up loving it. I even collected all the garden gnomes.
Listening to the final 1up Yours
Meh, they've all already come up with suitable replacements for the various 1up things. :)

Tenkaichi is good--maybe not as good as II, but considering the two before it, it was worth getting to me.
I've never heard of Heavenly Guardian.

It's the spiritual sequel to Pocky and Rocky...

Wait, what?
Are you disagreeing that Heavenly Guardian isn't a sequel to Pocky and Rocky?

Now that I think about it though, the game did get really terrible reviews (what little there were). Maybe I'm just being nostalgic for Pocky and Rocky then. >_

Oh god, Bubsy. Don't bring up any more bad memories for me, please. X_X

I'm getting the Genesis collection for PS3/360, probably 360 though. I have Taito Legends 2. It's pretty decent, and definitely better than TL1. Fire Pro Returns, hell yes. Love it. I did put a lot of hours into Rumble Roses, too much time. And I've wanted to play Raw Danger.
urban reign is a hidden gem. best 4P party game on PS2 IMHO.

I'll second Rumble Roses. the original is still a damn fun wrestling game. more like the old N64 ones.
Urban Reign is so bad ass. 10 bucks at BB, and so much fucking fun. :)
Sir, you have excellent taste. I LOVE Fist of the Northstar! I remember renting the VHS back in the day and getting my mind blown..
I need to get HnK on DVD sometime. :)

Oh yeah, I remember those on SNES. Those games were great. :)

GH Treasue Box is pretty sweet too. Nights remake is actually pretty good if you like Nights. 480p widescreen is damn nice too. Tenkaichi is really fun too. I dig it, but I'm a SamSho whore.

I have Klonoa 2, haven't finished it yet though. I should check out the Ad supported version of Psi-Ops for PC.
I'm not disagreeing, I'm just surprised that there was another P&R-type game. I loved P&R.
No worries, I enjoyed it too. Just not sure if Heavenly Guardian is as good as it looks to me now that I think about it... :p

I found Gears 1 to be really...I don't know, cheap, I guess, at some points. Like, here I am, behind cover and I need to throw grenades into Locust holes or whatever, on Hardcore, shoot these dudes like 1000 times, then I aim my grenade and fuck I get shot like for a second and I'm a dead steroid abuser.

And it was brown.

Thanks for the input GGT. I'm making a list of games to get, most of them are dirt cheap too at GS, and easy to get. All prices are used, unless noted.

Rise to Honor $5
Finny Teh fuckin' Fish $5
Dark Cloud 2 $17
I Ninja $5
The Red Star $8
Heavenly Guardian is $20 on PS2, $10 new on Wii. I don't have a Wii, and $20 is more than I want to pay.
Haunting Ground $15
Raw Danger $6
Psi-Ops is free on PC from Fileplanet. Ad supported, but free is free.

So that's not bad at all for some cheap fun. :) I'll keep scouring for more old but good cheap games.

Gears 2 is much easier than Gears 1.

But the gameplay is largely the same, so if you didn't like the first then you won't like the sequel. It is less brown though since there are more outdoor scenes in forrests etc.

But from what you said about Gears 1 I'd just skip it if I were you, as it's still hiding in cover and enemies still take a lot of shots to kill.

Headshots.

Just finished Gears 2 with my roomate today, that last act was fucking awesome. The whole game was great, much better than Gears 1.

And the Fear 2 demo was really fun too. I'm looking forward to that in a few weeks.
Active Reload/Perfect Reload is your Friend.

Yep, I didn't think it was bad in either game. But it does still take a lot more shots compared to realistic shooters like CoD4 etc.--so I guess I see how it could turn off some people.

I love the Gears games--my 2 faves so far this gen. At least the campaign, couldn't get into the online in either.

Gears 2 > Gears simply for the facts:

(1) Gears 2 has flamethrowers
(2) Gears 2 has better vehicle sections
(3) Gears 2 has no bullshit drive the spotlight mobile section.

However, Gears has shining points that Gears 2 somehow dropped, especially the "boss" type encounters.

Oh, glad you mentioned the Fear 2 demo, just started it downloading during a time out in the WVU-Georgetown game and will check it out after the game.
