He is saying the more money you make the more money you spend in T-minus 2 years.
Welcome to the world.

Now T-minus 2 years until you're in debt.
 If you don't manage the money you make correctly during this time frame that is. Also, congrats on getting paid your first check.

I find that you should only spend 30% of you money that doesnt make you money return.

Make investments in life....

A Cell Phone is worth it, for new jobs.
A Nice expencive suit is worth it, for job interviews.
A computer is worth it, for school and work.
College is worth it, for a better job and better lifestyle.
A car is worth it, for ovious reasons.
A house and home essientials are worth it...again, ovious.

Look good, and be social and get the right connections. I make 45,000 a year, and I never went to college because I was social and made the right connections.

---------------------------------------------------------

Dont get stuck like other guys and spend all your money on girls and games....stay focused and always read the fine print...and you'll be 25 with no debt like me.

That is the trick.

I needa get my checks from somewhere else. These union fees are outta control. I'm paying double for other people, with taxes and fees, what the hell am I gonna do with this crap, I'm 18, don't need health insurance or dental so stop gouging me damn check!

Hope your not working at Jewel with me, if you are.... quit immediately.

Yeah...well I'm only 17 so those things won't even kick in two years.

Don't spend it all in one place. :D It's not "found" money. You actually had to work to earn it, so consider this before you start spending it.
Yeah...well I'm only 17 so those things won't even kick in two years.
Ok, the fact that you got your first paycheck at 17 puts you two years behind. I hope you're working 40 hours a week.

And dude, you're 17 and you dont have a car? You're not getting one till you're 19?

I guess you're not interested in pussy.... man, kids these days. :D

Sound advice but he should also consider saving some $$$ towards setting up a company. Start ups are relatively cheap to make and the benefits far outweigh those of an individual worker being taxed. I started my company when I was 19. I'm 28 now and on my way towards having a few million (in assets) by the time I'm 35-40.

Save money, my family used to have a decent amount, then a failed business and a major medical problem with my father (he's sorta fine now, he has problems thinking clear sometimes and it kept causing him to screw up so he just got fired) and we're about the lose the house. Don't keep thinking "well, the money will be there for that when the time arrives", cause sometimes it won't.

OK, wait a minute......so you have a house and no debt? Do you mean no bad debt?

I am sure your parents know this, but if the not thinking clearly is due to a medical problem, your dad can claim on long term disability assuming he had coverage. Sorry to say though if he didn't have coverage, he's out of luck as far as I know.

I worked at safeway for awhile...payed over 35 dollars a month in mandatory union fees, just for health care, which by the way, to me was complete waste and BS.

Safeway never gives anyone more then 25 hours a week, with their slim pay is about a take home of 150 dollars and then 115 dollars every fourth week.

If you get sick and have to goto the doctor, or god forbid a serious illness occurs, you'd be indebt from the copays from health care these days anyway, so whats the point in getting health care?

Well he has chronic gillian beret syndrome, a nerve disorder that can, potentially, essentially paralyze you (to the point of needing a respirator to breathe). He's back to about 80% strength, and has been cleared (mentally and physically) by multiple doctors, but when you actually have to work full time as an account, he makes a few mistakes here and there and that adds up over time. He used to do the job very easily and was one of the people who could basically do what he wanted without risk of getting fired (one time he walked out of an important meeting cause he was late for a family vacation and his boss told him repeatedly he'd be fired if he did, but he never was), but he just can't do it anymore. He got fired after 6 months at this job because of all the mistakes, the first time he was ever really fired (he was downsized once, he was in the second to last mass firing, of 5, before the company closed, he was sorta lucky, the decision was made the weekend that he had to be rushed to the hospital, so he was on their medical coverage for about 6 months before being let go). He never told this company about the problem though.

I really don't know what we have and what we don't, everyone uses my mothers medical coverage from her job (which is very good and covers the whole family), but everything is linked to work. I'm not sure what my father has/ doesn't have now, but I would assume he'd know that.

Yeah, I am sure he knows all about it. That sucks though. To be cleared by doctors but know not everyting is 100% can't be a good feeling. Good luck! I hope everything works out for your family.

It happens to the best of us, especially when quoting someone and leaving the key words out of your thoughts.

My first check was $300 and it was for 60 hours of work. I spent it all in one day. I had some debts as well as there was some stuff I wanted to buy.

I'm 17 and I would have never gotten a job if I didn't want a fun sports car... I still don't have that sports car I wanted (2nd gen Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX). To the topic poster: what kind of job is it? How much do you make?

I'm still bagging groceries because I want to have proof that even though I'm young I can still keep a job for a long time, meaning I won't get the job and a few paychecks to buy something then quit. Even if it doesn't pay much, stick with it for 6 months at least.

Congrats!

I got my first paycheck a long time ago. But I still remember being amazed at how much money I was paid doing almost nothing as an intern. :)

1) I don't need to buy a freaking car. I'm going to be gone from home in one more year to go to college. What the hell would the point be? If I want to go somewhere, I borrow my parents.

2) I just have a small summer job as a pool attendant. It mostly consists of sitting on my ass and using the cash register here and there to ring up anyone without a pool pass. Easy shit, and I wouldn't want any other summer job.

3) Don't worry guys, just because I'm going to start getting money coming in, doesn't mean I'm going to run out there and buy a load of shit. I know better. I'm saving. Some spent, most (and I mean most) saved.

my first paycheck, my dad took me to a car dealership and co-signed on a car... Fast foward to now and i'm still paying for it, lost the original job, went through a year and a 1/2 on unemployment, and I still have a year left to pay for the car...and I still haven't been able to attend college like I wanted to w/ that very first check....

I'd suggest putting some money away each check, you may not enjoy it now, but you'll thank yourself later on in life...

Heh, when I went to college my car was probably the most important thing I had. I don't see why it wouldn't be a great asset at college.

I'd recommend getting the hell out of that set of companies all together. I worked as the assistant Lobby Supervisor at Albertsons and was promised 36 hours a week. I definately ended up getting 24. Even after complaining, I was told that it was the nature of the business and to "deal with it"

Unions for grocery companies are always a scam. I was in the Kroger one. I found out that it was perhaps the most company friendly union ever. The union was supposed to force Krogers to supply our entire uniform (shirt, black pants, black shoes)...only to find out that by "supply"...they mean sell you a shirt for $7 and point out where to find the cheapest pair of pants and shoes.

I think I was in it for two weeks.

I've had a lot of friends who worked for Safeway, same thing. Union dues ate a hole through your paycheck, especially when you started as a bagger working 6 hours a week.

Unions have their place... unfortunately, it's NOT jacking its members out of their hard earned money. I'm glad I don't have to deal with them on a regular basis.

Oh I'm now a member of one, not really sure why we have a union since it's a state job, but it was a requirement for the position.
