GGT 136 is ready for the 3rd Strike!

Actually, I'm going to go against the general opinion in the GGT and say that that Peacock character in Skullgirls looks awesome.

Love that cartoon look (especially with the gloves and cute black eyes). Also her moves look awesome too, following the cartoon theme.

Yea, it's more fun to watch than it is to play.

I can agree with that. It just didn't click with me fighting game wise. Plus having a terrible netcode was a huge issue.
damn those remixed tracks are pretty bad

Definitely. :puke:
Not all of them, Elena's is sure as hell an improvement.

I don't really have a problem with the art style in Skullgirls. I really like the backgrounds and cartoon look, although the character designs aren't exactly great to me. Still though, the character designs aren't bad enough to turn me away from trying out the game.

I HATED everything about bayonetta's art design, but I would have missed out on the greatest action game this gen had I not have gotten past that minor annoyance. So I'm willing to try anything despite the art design in it.
i still haven't touched bayonetta for that reason, lol
You're not doing yourself any favors. :nottalking:

I'm surprised to see so many people who won't touch a game based on its art style.

if you don't like the western theme, you wouldn't buy a game set in the wild west. ya? doesn't sound too ridiculous to dismiss a game if its art direction isn't something you fancy.

No, if the game is good then I'll buy it, regardless of theme.

Emphasis on the "good", Mr. almost all RPGs are bad. ;)

It's not my fault they are, tell devs to start making good ones.
So I actually finished Spider-man Shatter Dimensions and I'm a lot less interested in Edge of Time now.
Why would you finish that game?

Why is it so surprising? Gaming is a visual media. I play games for enjoyment and if a major component of the experience turns me off completely why would I still enjoy it?
Why is it so surprising? Gaming is a visual media. I play games for enjoyment and if a major component of the experience turns me off completely why would I still enjoy it?
Because it's fun to play? Visuals are just something for you to look at while you enjoy how the game plays.

If that were the case then art designers would be out of a job because why hire someone to design nice looking characters and environments for you when everyone will just be happy with some stick figures interacting over a white background. Saying something as silly as that is like saying gameplay is just something to do while you look at the visuals.
Why would you finish that game?
Because I hate myself.

The game could have been a lot better if they got rid of Noir and focused more on the combat. And maybe have the all of the Spider-men(?) interact with each other a little more.
Yea, it's more fun to watch than it is to play.
I know I'm in the minority here, but for me MvC3 is actually my favorite fighter to play besides Budokai 3, MK, SC, and DOA. Online sucks, but that couch vs! Shit is AWESOME!

I actually wouldn't have a problem with this, because I play games to have fun. :booty:

Isn't that what most RPGs are about? O SNAP!

No, but seriously, that's what it sounds like you're trying to say.
So I actually finished Spider-man Shatter Dimensions and I'm a lot less interested in Edge of Time now.
Why? I'm happy they went with the the best Spidey (2009) for the sequel at least and cut out that shitty Noir stuff. I am disappointed in the voice actors they picked, though.

The only thing I could remember about the game of the characters were the chick with the nice tits and the super "arnold" arms on her head... but the chick with the whip type hair is better and peacock is cool too. If it's really going to psn, I'll get it there and play it with you -- if I ever end up with extra points on XBLA, I'll buy it there too.

Why? Because I played Shattered Dimensions. The combat was pretty mediocre and the Noir segment were painful to play.

Another problem I had with the game was that he would repeat some of the jokes multiple time in the same act. And some of them were pretty horrible, but that's how Spider-man's jokes usually are. But I will say that Amazing Spider-man's reaction to Spider-ham was the best moment in the game.

I'd argue that more setting/time period/story than art style. Now if you compared, say, Red Dead Demption to Call of Juarez, they probably have different art styles. Just my side of it... but I get what you mean, which is why I didn't play RDR until I won it for free. One of my favorite games of last year too, even though I wasn't looking for a western.

I opened it, planned to play through, get some trophies, then sell it for profit. I ended up keeping it and waiting for Undead Nightmare to go on sale. :bouncy:

Sometimes, the story and gameplay can overwhelm art direction ((S)SF4(AE) has a lot of terrible terrible character models and some of the stages really suck, but it's a great fighting game... [I do like the ink blotch type style though in the focus attacks and such though])

I think that everyone's sections were terrible except for 2099. His sections were fantastic and his combat upgrades made it a LOT better. I did feel the same about the repeated shitty jokes, (they were even bad for Spidey). I think they'll fix a lot of that in Edge of Time, though.

Maybe it's just because I've never found any game's art design to be so bad that it turns me off the game completely, but I'm inclined to agree with you here. I'm not saying art direction isn't important to me, but it's just not something that can be a dealbreaker either, especially if the gameplay is good, like in Bayonetta, which is my favorite action game ever.

You, out of all people, agree with me?! You're usually one of the first to take a shot at something I say.

lol? visuals play a huge role in the enjoyment you perceive through a game's other aspects.

If a game is hard for me to look it, that would probably make it hard for me to play too.

This is why every game needs to use the Unreal engine.

With the exception of a few gameplay mechanics everything but Noir felt the same. They just had different coats of paint.

Also I wasn't happy with Deadpool's inclusion as one of Ultimate Spidey's villains in the game. He isn't really one of my favorite villains in the Ultimate Universe. And he also feels more like 616 Deadpool instead of the one seen in the Ultimate comics

Yeah, I guess a few gameplay differences was just enough for me. I thought Ultimate was okay and 2099 was perfect for me. I never had anything I disliked in 2099's levels except for the Scorpion fight.

I 100% agree with you and I even brought that up on the game's forums and the reason for that as explained by one of the devs was that originally there was going to be a tie-in comic where 616 Deadpool got transported to the Ultimate universe, dressed like his doppelganger and fought Spidey but it was cancelled. Kinda like the recent Spidey/Deadpool/Hulk crossover annuals.
I did too.
I never have.

Its message was so strong I didn't even need to play the game to understand it.

A huge role? Then I sure as hell wouldn't have enjoyed Bayonetta or Arcana Heart 3 at all, because I DESPISE their art style with the fiery passion of a thousand suns.
Okay, seriously, why the fuck is Shadows of the Damned so fucking foggy? How do I make this go away?
You
trade it into GS
well you could of enjoyed it a lot more :nottalking:
I will not
argue with you there, I probably would have since I consider eye candy a bonus.

You don't.

It's like Silent Hill.

If that was the case they could have at least changed his bio to reflect that. And another problem is that Ultimate spidey acts as if this was the first time they have met.
I still need to play through SoTD. Still sitting on my shelf.

But Deus Ex tomorrow tells me to ignore it longer.
At least you own it. GOTY

Much better than Eli Shaddai.

. . .Which I'll rent probably soon and blast through.
