Still kicking around the idea of picking up a Vita when it launches, even though I never play handhelds. UMvC3 and Street Fighter vs. Tekken on the go really have my intrigued, though..
Anyone in here definitely picking one up right away?
Also, how many of the original PSP games can I expect to be available for download through PSN? I want to play Ultimate Ghost and Goblins, Patapon and perhaps Crisis Core. Any word on a price point for them?
If it had launched before 2012 in NA, I'd own one. Now I'll probably be waiting until May at least if not Christmas 2012. Like you, I kind of want to play a bunch of PSP games I never got the chance to (UGnG, Crisis Core here too) and love the idea of fighters on the Vita (Blazblue, UMvC3). I have a few PSP games from the Sony hacking snafu and I've been picking up $5 titles when they go on sale on PSN (Capcom Collections, Darkstalkers Chronicles, Powerstone Collection, Megaman X Maverick Hunter, etc.). I was gung-ho while there was a possibility it would be my Christmas gift. Now that it's release is pushed back into February, I'm pretty sure I'm not getting it for Valentine's Day, so my birthday is the next likely candidate if I'm interested. By that point, I'm 6+ months into the initial release window (from Japan) so I might as well see if they cut prices like the 3DS or if there's any redesign rumours before I make the plunge and wait until Christmas 2012.
UGnG is like $5 on PSN. Maybe $10. But it goes on sale for $5, as I've bought it for that price. Crisis Core wasn't up last I saw, at least not at a price that would make me buy it without owning the system.
Patapon should be in the store. I don't know the price.
Supposedly Sony is making a large amount of titles available via DD and owners of the physical media for the game will receive special pricing, I think.
Sony has just revealed its solution to the thorny issue of backwards compatibility between its two generations of PlayStation Portable console, the UMD-equipped PSP and the memory card- and download-based PS Vita. That answer is called UMD Passport. Set to be available from December 6th onwards, this app will offer discounted PlayStation Store downloads of UMD games you may already have bought for your PSP. A couple of hundred compatible games are being promised at launch, with more coming later on.
The process of verification for your ownership of a UMD game will be to download and run a UMD Registration Application on your PSP, which will identify your Universal Media Discs as genuine and credit that in the UMD Passport app on your Vita. Pricing of games ranges from as little as 100 yen to as much as 2,400, though the typical cost to download a copy of something you already own will be between 500 ($6.45) and 1,000 ($12.90) yen. Only the Japanese prices have been announced so far, though you can probably expect the latter two prices to be standardized to $5 and $10, respectively, in the US.
