Alright, guys, so, I'm looking for a new TV since I'm fairly certain my current one is going to get a power tool taken to it. So I'm looking for a TV based on the following criteria:
Oh boy, here we go.
1) I want zero input lag.
You're not getting zero input lag, no matter how much you want it. Minimal input lag, that's doable, and finding out how much input lag it has would probably require a trip to
www.avsforum.com to find out for sure. Input lag isn't something likely found out on "normal" reviews. The tech-heads at AVSForum normally check for that.
2) I want the rocky horror picture show DVD to look like a blu-ray.
The scaler in the TV shouldn't make much difference, as the scaler in your playback device (PC, BD player, etc.) should be better than the scaler in the TV.
3) I want it to have state of the art LCD speakers.
TV speakers range from serious suckage to bearable suckage. Pony up for a receiver + 2.1 speakers at some point and join the rest of us in the modern age.
4) I don't want it to be an Olevia.
Not an issue, since they're a dead brand, though I have an Olevia going into its fifth year of life and looking pretty good.
5) I want it to be 37 inches minimum.
How far away will you be sitting from it? That'll drive how big it should be.
6) I want it to be 1080p.
Shouldn't be much problem, as I can't see anyone buying a 37" or bigger TV and not getting 1080P these days.
7) I want to be able to brag about it.
Something else e-penis like to toss around?
8) I don't have a chac-like budget.
It's always a balance between finances and features, something will have to give unless you have unlimited money.
9) I don't want it to be able to display any RPG.
Easy enough.
10) I must be able to continue watching it when I spill my mountain dew on the floor.
Don't mount it on the floor and it won't be an issue.
In the budget scenario you're working from between $600 - $1K, there's lots of options. Just depends on how much you want to spend. Plus, there's things to be had in the Super Bowl buying season, as well as the 2012 stuff coming out and the 2011 stuff starting to wind down.
And for those curious, this is the set I have all my gaming stuff, BD/HD-DVD and HTPC stuff connected to:

And it's a great TV, without question. Replacing it when it dies under warranty will likely to make me cry.
