All the more reason to use protection. I don't want all that careless poking to give me something I can't get rid of.

Speaking of which, I really need to finally get a component cable for my Xbox. I want to play through some of those games again in the near future, but I'm sure as hell not going to use the stock composite cables to do it...

Buy a used game, return said game before the initial week you can refund it expires.

I've been playing some Sega Superstars Tennis (It's my brother's copy). It should've been called Sonic's Virtua Tennis because there's no difference besides the aesthetics. I know they tried to copy Mario Tennis, but failed miserably. It's pretty much the same with all Nintendo game clones. They look at it, say 'hey, that's easy' then they make it, and they either do any or all of the following:

- Complicate it to the point where the audience they're trying to reach goes 'how the hell do I play?'
(EX: Here's your controller layout, nothing else is explained)

- Jack up the difficulty in certain parts where it is unexplained, unnecessary, and unfun
(EX: Certain mini-games have unreasonable goals)

- Certain parts of the game mechanics don't work like they should, namely the simplest ones
(EX: The ball went right past you even though hammered on swing 6 or 7 times)

I think my first point is the biggest point. Nuts & Bolts did it, ModNation Racers did, LBP did it, this does it, and I'm sure Sega All-Stars Racing does it as well. They don't know that type of audience.

first online fighter ever and it's CvS2, tard.

also, 2 hours with RoF and I can already tell it's 1000x better than FFXIII, tards.

The first online fighter you ever played? Because it's certainly not the first online fighter ever. And CvS2 or not, it was still awful on XBox/GCube.

Yeah, I probably won't bother with them then, since I don't care much about achievement points and hate looking for random shit unless there's an in game map.

Got in a good session tonight, got the rest of the treasure chests in the Villa and the Mountain and headed to Venice.

Got all the viewpoints in the initial section, did a few story missions, got the treasure maps and got all the chests in the first section.

you could go to a friend's house and download it on your account to get the deal.

There wasn't an end boss or real ending scene for FEAR 2. No closure or anything, just goes straight to credits.

Is Superman actually any good? I've almost picked it up hundreds of times because I keep finding it for 4.99 new, but I'm afraid it'll be awful so I always end up putting it down.
you could go to a friend's house and download it on your account to get the deal.
Closest friend with a PS3 is 1 hour away. Next closest is 2 hours. Both are probably busy this weekend and I'll be nowhere in their respective areas.

If they allow the deal to go through amazon for a code, I might do it that way.

It's times like these when Sony fails even harder for not having an online marketplace.
I know that someday I'll sell my 60gb and replace it with a slim, but until that happens, I'm not getting online. :(

Which begs to question:
If I do a transfer to a slim from the 60gb fat, does that handle system deactivation for all PSN accounts?

Well there was sort of an end boss in that dream sequence.

But then you have the scene with
Alma
that's a cliffhanger with no resolution and isn't really an ending scene.

I liked the game a lot, a step down from the first one for sure, but it was still a pretty solid shooter IMO.

If FEAR2 is a step down from FEAR, I'm *REAAAALLLLY* glad I didn't bother with it then.

As far as doing a data transfer, it will transfer all the accounts and data, but won't activate or deactivate. So you'll have to remember to do that on the old system.

Also, there's no market for 3.15 fats. ;)

It sucked when I finally found out about that listing in the DNA menu. By the time I found it I had already spent a few extra hours using an online map to try to find the last 2 feathers that I was sure were in Venice. They were in Tuscany, and pretty much visible from the front gate.

Not yet at least. Suppose it depends on what GeoHot does with the CFW angle. Not my intention to try to profit -- I just don't feel like getting fucked by Sony -- at least the EU people were able to get $ back for the fact that Sony screwed them out of function they were or may have decided to use.

I don't particularly care either way -- I just figure if I'm going to lose Other OS, I might as well upgrade to a slim with 4x the HDD space. Not updating is more of a principle thing at this point.

My system is listed on eBay -- I got an offer on Craigslist for $250, but that would leave me $100 + tax short of a new slim. And I'm not sure if the dude wanted it at 3.15fw or not. I'd rather someone buy it off my eBay listing.

You really want to get a 250GB Slim?
You can use that money saved to get an even larger drive off Newegg or something.
Though I realize you may not particularly need all that space, but it's just a better deal.

My PS3 situation is currently this:

One 120GB Slim that has only been used once so far.
One dead 20GB (now 400GB) Phat that I want to give one more go to someone to try to fix.

If the fix fails, I'll bite the bullet, and send to Sony, and sell whatever they send me back.

Until I know it can't be fixed, I don't want to play anything with a locked save, as I need to get the 400GB from the Phat into the Slim.
Or maybe I'll get an even bigger drive..... and sell all these extra 2.5" drives I have around from various PS3 and laptop upgrades.
Oh you kids and your console versions of FEAR.

The ports are seriously terrible -- they play like completely different games.
I played FEAR 1 on the PC. FEAR 2 on the 360. FEAR 1 was the better game for sure, but I thought FEAR 2 on the 360 was great, and I prefer controllers to keyboard and mouse controls personally. But I just loathe playing games on PCs in general, and it's moot now since i just have a non-gaming capable laptop at home.
If FEAR2 is a step down from FEAR, I'm *REAAAALLLLY* glad I didn't bother with it then.
Yeah, if you hated the first, stay far away from the second. The only improvement is the environments aren't so repetitive. Other than that the first game was better in every way.

As with most sequels, only people who liked the first game need apply.

It has nothing to do with the controls though - the console versions are just sedated. They feel a lot slower and considerably less intense. It's kinda weird.

Is the first Fear scary?
I wouldn't mind getting it on PC if it is.

All I know from Fear 2 is that the demo scared me while I was exploring the school. :baby:
That and that there is way too much bass from walking in the mech...

I thought FEAR 2 felt about the same as FEAR on the PC in terms of the feel of the guns etc. It was less intense, but that was just the game design being a lot less creepy than FEAR1. It was more of plain old shooter and less of a horror game than the first IMO.

But that's also my bias as trying to game on a PC always takes me out of it. I just can't get into it as I hate being at a PC when I spend probably 80 hours on the average week on them between work and goofing online etc. I can get into games much more when I'm vegging out on the couch, no keyboard or mouse is in sight etc. :D

It was pretty creepy.

The school is probably the creepiest part of FEAR2. There was a lot more of that kind of stuff in FEAR1 and its expansion than in FEAR 2 (didn't play its expansion).

The $50 upfront cost would take out the hassle of finding a drive, changing it, and then migrating everything. I'd never run out of space. No reason for something insane like 400+ GB, especially now that Other OS has been forcibly removed.

what online fighter came before it in the U.S.? None of the online fighters for the PS2 (or dreamcast, if there were any) were online in the U.S.

and why is it awful on the xbox/cube? Controller doesn't count...I had a converter+PS2 saturn pad. also, I never played people using EO/EX-grooves.

The part about the school in FEAR 2 was definitely the creepiest part in the game. The intel you pick up in that area is completely fucked up, too. It's been a while since I've read stuff that was that fucked up in a game.

MvC2 for the Dreamcast, but I only mention that because so many people got the import version + the loader disc.

As for CvS2...
Q: There's like 5 different platforms for CvS2. Are there any differences?
A: For obvious reasons, everything will be compared to the arcade version of the game.

Dreamcast: For all intents and purposes, arcade perfect. There have been some complaints about speed differences between the arcade and DC versions, but it's an established fact that there IS no standard arcade speed. Different arcade cabinets all set on the default speed of 3 will have slight (sometimes major) speed differences for no apparent reason.

PlayStation 2: Pretty much identical to the DC version (and therefore, identical to the arcade), the PS2 version does sport slightly higher resolution. Nothing game-affecting, though.

EDIT: Yun has a really random game-crashing glitch: hit the opponent with a You Hou super, then immediately do the qcb+P palm move after. Game crashes for no apparent reason.

X-Box: Lots of differences here.
  • EO Mode: The Easy Operation Mode lets players do special moves and supers at the touch of a single button. Obviously aimed at beginners and mashers.
  • System: RCs are completely removed. Not sure if other glitches (OTG grab CCs, tech throw glitch, etc) were removed.
Grooves: S-Groove reportedly charges its gauge faster. P-Groove gets the (amazingly broken) ability to do super cancels. A-Groove can jump and whiff an air attack and still activate CC afterwards. They can also cancel most connected air attacks into CC as well.
  • Characters: Sagat, Blanka and Cammy all get a 5% damage reduction across the board. Certain characters I can't remember got a 5% damage boost, I think it was something like Dan, King, Kyosuke, Maki, Eagle, Gief, Yuri, and I think Zangief...? On a more specific level, the only real tweaks found were that A-Maki can no longer juggle a CC after her punch throw in the corner, the Kim infinite doesn't work and Cammy bounces a lot higher on a blocked DP. Hibiki still can juggle a CC off of her kick throw for whatever reason though.
And... that's all I can remember at the moment. There are certain false rumors being spread around by XBox lovers, like the top tier characters' moves having less priority and Sak/Bison's CCs doing less damage. Don't believe them.

Gamecube: I don't know exactly for sure, but it should be exactly the same as the XBox version. I've heard random rumors about stuff like Sagat not being able to buffer supers off of his low fierce, haven't had a chance to check them though. EDIT: this has been confirmed to be true.

Its not TOO bad. worse than Web of Shadows. Only about 5 hours long though.

What to play this weekend...I might start up Deadly Premonition or Splinter Cell Conviction in between bouts of Final Fantasy XIII.

Will just be more AC2 for me if I get time for games. Hoping to knock it out in the next 2-3 weeks so I can finally move on to Fallout 3 when the semester's over and I'm done teaching and should have a bit more free time (not a lot unfortunately as I have a major backlog in my research and writing work). :(
