It's the law of CAG, I'm afraid. Every 500 posts, a new GGT thread must be born. I think it should be 1,000 myself.

agreed, but anyways....I dont really understand the whole GGT thing. What all do you all talk about in this thread ? any info would be great

Anything gaming related goes here. Mostly people use it for 'I've played this' and 'my reaction to what you're playing'

ohh okay, I thought it was full of people making fun of other people

cough cough Fire Thief cough

Why is everyone always coming to GGT and asking what it is? I thought GGT was obvious.

Anyways, SSF4 IS AWESOME! I'm having some real troubles with Guile's trials, though.

Hey Capt Joel, been playing some Fable 2 ?

I played quite a bit of it this weekend, enjoying it so far. I also pre-ordered Fable 3 over the weekend.

Pre-ordered Dead Rising 2 as well, sucks that Case 0 has been delayed.

Yeah, I was playing to get my gamesave back, but it magically reappeared yesterday somehow through means I do not understand and now I'm back to having all the Demon Doors and owning every property and all of the best weapons. You should start out gunning for the Gargoyle statues early on, man. Are you going for an evil or good character?

Good on this play through, I'll look out for the Gargoyles, hit the first one last night.

Fixed.

You're going to be totally lost unless you read GGTs 1-38

Perfect lead in to my question:

when there's a sequel coming out, do you guys try to marathon the previous games or do you hop right in to the new one?

I always see people saying they want to play the previous games first...like Other M is coming out and lots of people on neogaf wanna play the prime trilogy and all the other Metroid games so that they totally understand Other M.

Which seems ridiculous, since that's about a 100 hours of gaming, all for something that's pretty much made to be understandable to newbs who have no idea and is dotted with some fan service to appease old fans. When there is a story dependent sequel, there's always a summary on the disc or elsewhere (like with Xenosaga 2 and 3, Shenmue II Xbox, and the Yakuza series.) Even then, you can watch youtube vids or read a FAQ. The point being-- games are always shooting for the widest audience, so they wouldn't make something completely incomprehensible to a new audience, MGS4 notwithstanding.

Sometimes it's not even about the story...like some need to play Persona 1, 2, and 3 before getting to 4...which is hundreds of hours of gaming just to feel ready to play a stand alone game that is advanced in every way making the others obsolete from a gameplay perspective.

I've never understood this, but at the risk of sounding like Dmaul, games are too long to go back and play everything that came before just to feel like I'm getting the "full" experience. The few times I have tried to catch up, I've gotten bored and given up (except my playthrough of the MGS series before 4...but that's because each game is so unique and good.) I wish I could spend that much time gaming though!

I used to collect entire series and tell myself I'd play them in order...but that was before I had actual responsibilities and when I had enough disposable income to keep from feeling like unplayed games were money rotting on my shelf.

ok, maybe i've had too much coffee this morning...
at the risk of cutting off discussion of that epic post i put so much effort in to, this is fucking hilarious:

Really Microsoft?? An increase to $60 per year for XBLive?! Are these ads on every inch of the dashboard not helping at all??

Glad I got 3 years in advance for free.
Looks like it will only be for new subscribers. It says current subscribers will be locked into whatever they are paying now.
Looks like it will only be for new subscribers. It says current subscribers will be locked into whatever they are paying now.
Until that subscription runs out, then they're paying the new amount.
Who autosubscribes though? At least on these forums.
Not I that's for sure.

I like the "But hey you can subscribe for $40, and then we'll have your CC info so in 12 months we can charge you the full $60"

Twats, if I can't get a deal when my subscription and cards run out in 3-4 years time they can shove Live up their asses.

Finished Alan Wake last night (Ep 6 and The Signal DLC). Great game, pretty anti climatic ending/last chapter. Hopefully the 2nd DLC fleshed it out more, or there's a sequel.

Sucks about the Live price increase. Hopefully $30-35 card deals are still plentiful. Doubt I'd pay more than that since I mainly have it for the Netflix since I don't do much online gaming anymore.
Until that subscription runs out, then they're paying the new amount.
I missed that. Trying to watch the Giantbomb crew play Quake and read is a bad idea.

Sucks for me that I'm only set until Jan of 2011.
Hell, and I thought $30 was too much for a year... can't imagine deals on subscription cards getting lower with the prices getting higher...

Yeah, I've got not too much time left. Oh well, silver it is.

I don't play online enough to justify it and Netflix is available on my various iPod/iPhones, laptops, PS3 and Wii.

Ugh. What the fuck, microsoft?

My subscription is through the end of 2012 so hopefully some deals come about between now and then. I usually pay about $30 for my live sub cards anyway.

But seriously? They release less 1st party games per year than ever before and they charge more for the service. What have they really added lately? Netflix is a separate paid subscription.

I bet this is evening out the ESPN shit costs across all subscribers since you don't have to pay extra for it. If they start getting partnerships with other networks to play their content free I see the price increase justifiable, but who knows what they plan on doing.

Would have been nice for them to throw us a bone with the price increase instead of this bullshit PR "we are the best value in the industry you love us now give us that money". Even something like free game room access or something would have justified the increase without any additional cost to them.

Microsoft seems determined to allow Sony to be their equal with stupid decisions like this and Kinect.

God damn it Microsoft.

I'm honestly conflicted here. I don't know if I should buy a year now or just go silver. I only want to play the Gears 3 multiplayer. That's literally the only online I played on the 360. (I use Netflix, but I could just switch to the Ps3 for that...)

I hope that guy on here, CAG, didn't sell all those subscription cards he won, he'd make a killing after Nov. 1.

I mean, $10 isn't that much.

But it shouldn't be happening at all. They aren't offering anything more with the subscription that they weren't back in 2002. At least nothing that doesn't require you to spend more.

I understand that their objective is to make money. But all these companies need to stop acting like we're the helpless addicts to their products that they think we are.

Send a message to major nelson on his blog. And keep sending those messages. They'll get the point. If there's a rage as hot as the sun for 2 weeks and then everyone stops being upset then they won't give a shit and maybe they'll increase it another $10 in a year.
Hmm. For gears I'll use a couple 48 hour codes.
Game is short.
Multiplayer, like against people not co-op. It's my favorite multiplayer, mostly for the sound getting a head shot. It's just so satisfying. I put a lot of hours into the multi-player, about what I have now on Modern Warfare 2.(around 5th prestige if I include time on 360 and Ps3, before I fully switched to Ps3)

I thought for sure a price drop would happen. With the periodic $29.99 sales over the past few years and all...you'd think they were trying to stimulate sales.

I'm thinking their over confident in Kinect. Closing their ears to the haters and telling themselves this is just like the skepticism over the Wii before it came out.

I hope they get hit hard with lowered subscriptions and the failure of kinect. Microsoft needs a reality check. If they don't think that this industry is 8-12 months of greedy decisions away from crashing, 1980s style, they are fooling themselves. Think about how often we get good news that's friendly to consumers.. not very often.

Then think about how many times we get news that results in a universal chorus of groans as the consumer is slowly fucked out of extra money.

Hopefully nintendo starts moving back towards a more hardcore friendly experience with the 3DS and the next wii. The 3DS shows that they are interested in moving that direction, at least. It would be nice to be playing all my multiplatform stuff on a nintendo system again.

The thing that's weird about this is kinect doesn't even work in an online multiplayer environment right now, right? Too many variables that the camera is reading for that to be translated to a low latency online experience, I think.

I thought 50 was expensive... My live dies in Oct. I wasn't going to renew it until April 2011. I hope I can get a decent deal then. I'm not paying 60 bucks a year to play one game.

I'll just take the $40 deal now and cancel later.

It looks like the US release of Case Zero is still on track.
MS will always have my CC on file since I signed up when Live launched. No way for me to remove it.
There is some bizzaro process you can go through with customer service to get it removed, I believe the moon has to be in the 8th house though.

I was on the phone with a customer service rep to get my CC deleted from XBL a year or so ago. He kept trying to convince me that I was wrong for doing so, but eventually relented under my pressure.

I know they're supposed to try and talk you out of it, but fuck man...

Yea they act like they are negotiating a hostage situation. With your CC being the hostage.

This is honestly what I thought. I thought for sure the price would go down, but if it doesn't, oh well. I'm set midway through 2011 and I'm sure they'll have some kind of sell on cards soon. They'll probably just be ten dollars more expensive.

And on the topic of their fucking annoying reps, I spent two hours on the phone with one three years ago trying to get me CC deleted from my account. I have never wanted to jump through the phone and bludgeon someone so bad.
my next class needs to hurry up and start...I have nothing to do, I'm approaching being a week ahead on my reading!
I'm proud of you, mang. I try to keep up a pace of always being a week ahead in my classes, too.

Holy shit, MS wants $60 a year for XBL? If they elimate the sub cards, that would be bad...I'm only paid until 2012. :(

It's weird having a backlog and not knowing what to play next. :p
I'm proud of you, mang. I try to keep up a pace of always being a week ahead in my classes, too.
Thanks. I always attempt to do it, but this is the first time I've truly gotten in the green. The real trick is to keep reading instead of playing games during your "ahead" week

Quick question about removing a CC from an account:

I'll keep it short: Put CC on account, lost password[i can't recover it], and I didn't realize paying $19.99 once kept it on auto-renewal, need it removed. Plan to redeem 2 12 month cards.

How do I get it removed if it's not on my account? I don't want the account banned or anything[for "stolen" cc] but I don't want it there either.
