Okay. So here's the whole story. AKA My version of it. And if I can get a copy of the incident report, I'll post that too.
It was like 1 am. We were on the second to last round of the night, meaning I could go to bed. We get up on the 5th floor and we smell dryer sheets and air fresheners and then a faint/washed out smell of pot. We sniff like 3 door frames until we find the door. We step back, but keep the room in our view in case the dude wanted to leave. We call UPD. They show up. Knock on the dudes door. The dude answers the door in just his boxers. His eyes are beat red and glazed over. He's got the whole "dude..." sluggish talk going on and the air just reeks of pot and air fresheners. He's also got a towel blocking the bottom of his door, a fan pointed out the window, and dryer sheets and an air purifier by the door. Two officers tell him that they have a form that he can sign so they can search his room(right to consent form) or they can get a warrant to search his stuff. The dude opts for the warrant. They tell him to put clothes on and to beat it, saying he can't go into his room until after they search the place. Around like 4 am, (2 hours after we were supposed to be off duty) we go upstairs to check on things. They've searched his room and pulled out two paper bags of "stuff". They tell us that they found a bag of pot, about 6 beers, a pipe, and a makeshift pipe. Then they bring us into the room and show us the most ridiculous contraption ever. It was like a giant plastic bag that could be velcroed to the floor. The cops told us he sat under it and smoked. That was a wtf moment for me, because that doesnt even sound enjoyable, and I'm a former smoker myself. But whatever. The dude comes back to his room, the cops tell him what they found and told him that he was being arrested. He was in holding til 5 am, then released, and made him walk about 2.5 or so miles back to campus with it being 32 degrees out.
The whole situation left me vexed. Like, this is my first semester as a CA and this was my first weekend duty, so I really wasn't expecting something like that to happen. But whatever, I know I'm going to bump into more situations like it... people are just stupid. The thing I just dont get, is that the dorm room is surrounded by woods. Why not just go out there?
