Well I got my first session with Sonic 2006 (I'm a couple levels and bosses in now), impressions so far:

  • I want to pimp smack Tails, he seriously says the most obvious things ever, like "Oh they got away, guess we're out of luck." ... thanks for the insight.
  • I never imagined I could gameover on the first level of a platformer game... and that didn't happen... but it was way closer than I liked.
  • The dialog, especially from the Princess is far funnier if you imagine everything has deep sexual undertones, for instance:

    "My father told me never to cry (when he was touching me)."

    "Sonic, Sonic, wait! (Slow down, this is my first time)."

The first game isn't bad, but it has some major flaws. The story is too bogged down with pointless crap. I don't care about helping Date's daughter or Kage's son nor do I feel like going to like 5 different places to get one item. I just want to get back to what happened with the 10 billion yen and Yumi. All that stuff was clearly put there to extend the game length, and you start to feel the drag. Also the combat is severely lacking. There's pretty much no lock on so you spend at least half of every fight punching the air. Finally the loading times are horrible.

I'd say just skip to the second game. It fixes pretty much all these problems.

I meant 3D platformer... but I have played Ghost & Goblins (original arcade)... and that game was way too hard for me, I gave up on the first level.

Yeah, I guess the game is just so timelessly good that not only will it stay great for future generations, but it also goes back in time for previous generations as well.
