Has anyone tried WarTech: Senko no Ronde for 360? I've heard it's kind of a mashup between a shmup and Virtual On. Sounds tempting.
I played the demo, reminded me of Zone of Enders.

Yes, I have it. It's not like Virtua On control-wise, although your characters do fight in mechs. The gameplay is closer to a 2D fighter with shmup attacks. It's tough, but I like it.
When you get 4-Players all 4 can connect (or Spoon) and become a Megazord Aegis Wingy Thing. You can control the direction of your shot, and your super weapons become much more massive. It's a good idea.

In honor of the FF movie, anyone play the Silver Surfer for the old NES? One of my favorite (but most difficult) shooters. Listen to the music of the first level, it's rockin'

Angry Nintendo Nerd just did a rant on Silver Surfer today.

toysnjoys just sent me an email saying Ibara is back in stock (and that my refund processed--took about 3 weeks.) $70 + shipping and it's yours.
Thanks for the video, although it should just be called "Angry Nintendo Nerd", cause it really wasn't "funny." And maybe he's so angry cause he wasn't very good at the game.
I reckon that's the most annoying thing EVER.
That just came out actually. Got the newsletter from excellentnet.com, but it's $1400. I'll wait until it goes down to at least $900/$1000.
Where do you like to buy your stuff?

I kind of regret not investing in Pink Sweets when it was at arcadeshock. Now I can't find that game new anywhere, even the Japan stores that import to US like Fujita...

Wow Playasia shipped my Trizeal PS2 already. Wonder where they got this stock from? Anyway, I suspect they dropped the price to clear 'em out, so if you were on the fence before, best to act now while it's still in stock.

I've heard this game is a massive pile of shit, so even for $30 I won't be biting. Unless I was thinking of the wrong game... DC had a couple of shit shooters come out for it at the end times, hard to keep them all straight... I might be thinking of Chaos Field as the one that sucks.

Is this hard to find or something for the PS2, just out of curiosity? Might pull the trigger if it's some kind of rarity as you describe - sometimes Play-Asia finds a random supply of this stuff and marks it down, like when they randomly got in Saikyo Shooting Collection Vol. 3.

Found a review:

http://shootthecore.moonpod.com/2006/04/shooting-love-trizeal-playstation-2.html

I'm considering it, since the DC version is a non factor to me, and $30 for a shmup that is out of print might be decent... let me know ASAP gunm!

The guys on the shmup board were positive about it, but I think the reviews for this one were mediocre. I've heard mixed things about the slowdown in the game--some say it's worse than the DC version, others say it's about the same. It sounds like the game is a bit more jerky in the PS2 iteration, but "Shooting Love" also includes a superplay-type DVD, which sounds interesting to me.

As far as rarity, I only know that the game went OOS @ PA for a little while before returning to stock at this cheaper price this week. Did PA clear out some Tokyo game shop's overstock? Maybe.

A brief check on fleabay tonight shows it only available in the storefronts for about $60.

If you're not low on funds, I'd say "go for it", as you might be able to make your money back on ebay or through some other method if you don't like it.

Yea, I like Superplay type shit, so that's a positive, and it doesn't look like it will ever get cheaper than $29.90 because I doubt it's ever going The Best and P-A just wants to clear out what they have.

I'll probably pick up this and Guilty Gear Slash (since Accent Core is a busted POS), gonna go request a coupon now, thanks for the sell ;)

I don't usually pass up deals on import games if they are moderately decent because a deal will probably never ever come again, and I'd rather take a chance at a cheap price than hear later how awesome it is and it's all gone at $29.90.

Gah, sorry--I was thinking of the Insanity DVD for Trizeal. That's not included. :(

However, "Shooting Love" does have bonus stages and other features that are not in the DC version.

I'm sure about that, at least. ;)

Thanks gunm, ordered Trizeal today, I think I was definitely thinking of Chaos Field being the shitty Dreamcast shooters, along with Radilgy / Radirgy / whatever.

Video of the first stage, the music is amazing.

Silly poll.

Everyone knows that they'll put it on the PS2 first / last / eventually, because I'm sure they like money, and PS2 has about 20 times the install base of the DC.

I wish G-Rev would have ported their shmups elsewhere, but alas, was not meant to be.

I always thought it was weird Psikyo never ported Zero Gunner 2 to the PS2 after dropping so many other games on it. I guess it's cause, unfortunately, Psikyo is defunct and hasn't brought anything out in 3 years. Would have killed for a Psikyo Shooting Collection Vol. 4: Zero Gunner and Zero Gunner 2.

The DC may have nowhere near the installed base of the PS2 but it does have a decent number of people who will gladly buy any shmup that comes out for it at full price (I have a mint, played once copy of Karous to show for this).

MOSS (current makers of Raiden I believe) could produce ten thousand copies for the DC and be virtually guaranteed to sell them all out at 50 or 60 bucks each. A PS2 port would probably sell more copies overall but there'd be the danger of not selling them all and taking a hit with markdowns.

Plus there's the whole, cool, "Oh my god another DC game!" factor with a DC port.

Nah, Sega ain't making any more GD-ROMs, so your chance of any new games is practically nil now. The next Naomi title is Exzeal, and it's on ROM-cart only. BTW, I hear Exzeal is coming out later next month.

If it does go to a "previous gen" console, it'd go to PS2, but unfortunately, I haven't heard of any new shmups planned for the system this year.

I think Cave is done with PS2 ports, for example...

Cave is only done because the PS2 can no longer handle the games they are making, IIRC.

Haha, I heard that, too, but kind of hard to believe when the lead programmer was showing off unfinished demos of Ketsui on DS. :)

Hm, Trizeal PS2 is still in stock @ PA, but now at the excessively high price of $64.90. Wow, glad I got in @ $30...

Yep, glad you convinced me to jump on it ;)

Cool! I got mine today too! I won't be able to actually play it until my other PA order goes through, though...

Hm, I managed to get a reasonable shipping rate out of Japan Video Game's odd shopping cart system, so I ordered Homura Best. Used the 5% off coupon from another thread--woo hoo.

They really want to rape Hawaii residents Ned Beatty Deliverance-style on shipping, so I'm not sure it will go through.

Fingers crossed...

It got pretty decent reviews as a port and was popular in the (Japanese) arcade back when it came out a few years ago. I'm always down for a new shmup, and this one is hard to find, even the Best version...

Wow, it looks like Japanvideogames shipped Homura Best to me already? Didn't get a confirmation mail yet, but I'm more optimistic now. I hope I really do get it because I'm not planning another trip to LA again until later this year. :p

And Chac, here's some reviews that got me more excited about this game:

http://www.ncsxshop.com/cgi-bin/shop/TCPS-10130.html

http://www.ntsc-uk.com/review.php?platform=ps2&game=Homura

The game might be too reminiscent of Psyavariar 2 for some, but I don't mind.

And I don't know why, but this game is somewhat difficult to obtain--even The Best version. I know it was popular in Japan and the japanvideogames sale was the cheapest (w/ 5% off coupon, shipped) that I've seen lately for a new copy. Toys N Joys also has it in stock at their B&M store too, but it's the original print that's $70. I'd rather save some $ and get The Best version as I'm going to be playing this in addition to adding it to my collection.

Well, only went through the first level so far. I like it, though!

It's hard trying to figure out how/when to do the special attack, but when it works with lots of enemies on screen, it's pretty darn cool (and your best bet of scoring big, too).

I guess if you tried to play it as a regular shooter, it'd only be a so-so game, but the extra wait, then special technique really puts it over the top for me. There aren't many shmups on PS2, so I'd say this one is a keeper for sure.
How is Chaos Field on the Cube? My local GS has it for $10 used and I was thinking about nabbing it.
One of my least favorite shmups of all time when you take into account the timeframe that it was released in.

Look, I can deal with 1942 being slow and boring. It was made in 1984. Chaos Field has no excuse.

From what I remember (and it's been awhile) the hitboxes are too big. Combine that with the fact that your ship is large (for a shmup) and you have a recipe for disappointment. The icing on the cake is the crappy graphics. I realize it's a DC port but just look at Ikaruga or, even better, Under Defeat. Those are shmup graphics.
