What ever happened to Ikaruga coming to XBLA? wasn't it slated for release at the end of 07?
Trying to figure out how to make a custom LCD Bracket which I can rotate to just play Ikaurga.. God I love that Game

http://www.ikaruga.co.uk/
That is a sweet game. Were you able to make the custom lcd bracket? If so let me know how so I can try it on mine. :)

So I just got Sky Gunner and the controls are pretty intimidating... Anyone got any tips? I also noticed that it plays better on my Retro Con controller for some reason. What controllers do you guys like to use for shmups?

Also got to second the love for Lords of Thunder. I'm more of a vertical man usually, but that's a damned fantastic game. Also just got Taito Legends 2 and was blown away by G-Darius.

Shmups are good for both controllers and joysticks since they're all arcade games... but controllers work real nice too.

Sky Gunner aint a joystick game tho... but that game is still too fun!!!

I don't have a joystick, but after playing through the games in Taito Legends 2 I really feel the need for an X-Arcade, or at least a Hori stick. I have trouble justifying that amount of money for a controller though.

You dont want X-Arcade. I think the Tekken Hori is the cheapest and most available of the PS2 Hori sticks on ebay. I bet you could do $35-40 before shipping on ebay.

I dont think you'll find anyone that will recommend you the X-Arcade brand. The stick didnt feel good at all, so maybe the explanation would be cheap parts? The fighting thread have a lot more people there that talk about sticks if you want more opinions.

Hey, can anyone answer a question about P.N. 03? I know it's not strictly a shmup, but it has a lot of shmuppy elements so I figured I might as well ask here. What I wanna know is: when you leave a room, does it count the combo that's currently counting down, or not? Thanks.

I met the guy that designed one of the more recent X-Arcade controllers. He apparently lives in Columbus and was having a garage sale. I bought one of his controllers for $20 and EBay'd it for $120. Good times.

That could've been a great garage sale.

I'm beyond excited for a new DDP game. If it gets a PS3 release it'll wind up being my first import game from the current crop of consoles.

Just read that a developer called Milestone is releasing three shmups for the Wii soon. Haven't heard of them though - what've they done?

EDIT: Nevermind, found 'em. Chaos Field, Radilgy, Karous. Haven't played any of their games though, they any good? I'm assuming this is just gonna be a port of the aformentioned DC games.
man Lords of Thunder is the sheeeeeit~~~

it's easy, but it's the sheeeeeit~~~
Yes it is. One of my favorite. What do you play it on, the Sega CD or TG-16?

Lords of Thunder is on Wii VC now. I may pick that up as I have a new Wii points card coming my way. In fact, I'll probably get the other TG16 shmup that just came out too.

Of the three I enjoyed Radilgy the most. I really disliked Chaos Field and Karous. I'll still probably get the compilation if it comes out in the US, it'll save me from messing around with disc swapping on my DC.

If you're talking about Psychosis, I wouldn't recommend it. Great visual design, but the rest is pretty generic.

But yes, LoT is fucking great.

Is it Psychosis? I might have been thinking of something else. There was at least one other VC shmup that I was interested in, but now I can't remember what it was now.

According to VC-Reviews, the currently available shmups are, in order from most recent to least recent:
Psychosis
Lords of Thunder
Monster Lair
Zanac
Super Air-Zonk: Rockabilly Paradise
Axelay
Gate of Thunder
Super Thunder Blade
Galaga '90
Star Soldier
Air Zonk
Dragon Spirit
Dead Moon
Blazing Lasers
Ordyne
Gradius III
Galaga
Bio-Hazard Battle
Xevious
R-Type III
Gradius
Soldier Blade
R-Type
Space Harrier II
and Super Star Soldier

Any of those ring any bells?

Oh, and while I'm talking about downloadable Wii content, here's a video of the recently announced WiiWare Star Soldier sequel:

EDIT: Video's not showing up for me, but you can click the download link to go to Youtube and watch. Looks like pretty much the same game we've been playing for 20 years. Not that that's a bad thing.
Anyone tried Triggerheart Exelica on Live Arcade yet? I got the demo and it's fun IMO.
It's good, but only 1-Player? WTF!?

Oh yes. I agree, it's pretty fun. I actually like the graphics on XBLA better than the DC version, which I already have.

I need a 360 stick, though.

YES! Super Turrican!! Imma gonna DL that and Lords of Thunder as soon as my Wii points card comes in the mail!! Ah, shmups on VC are the saving grace of the Wii for me--if it weren't for that and my 2 young kids, I'd have sold mines off already. :p

Nah, they won't be region-free.

My biggest question is if they have Falcons in Japan. I'll ping PlayAsia and see what they might be able to do about special requests.

No release date on these, so I'm not in a hurry. Worse comes to worst, I'll just import the games first and get the console later.

Yeah, but you can't talk about that here.

Anyway, I don't wanna fuck around with my Halo 3 console. I'd rather just get a Japan 360 for these Cave games. Still a lot cheaper than trying to buy a PCB...particularly for something like Ketsui which can be tricky to find to boot.

I'm probably the only one in love with this game.. but Arrow Flash.. (gen) good sountrack too. I doubt this game will ever show up on VC. Still my fav shmup

But there's a device that'll let you play imports without picking up a Jappo console? Is it solderless?

Don't think those questions cross the line...

But yeah, I don't care about voiding the warranty since BB has no clue how to determine if I opened that shit up or not. I'm not using MS' warranty.

I am buying these Cave games no matter what.

I really wish they'd get PS3 ports instead of 360 ones. Maybe they will eventually, I don't feel like buying a Japanese 360 for a very small number of games.
Yeah, Star Soldier R is looking good. These will keep me in the market for Wii games, at least for a little while.

I think I was considering Gate of Thunder, but if not, I'll just get Super Air Zonk.

And for those who like Bullet Hell, here's a link for the Castle Shikigami III Wii pre-order for Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Aksys-Castle-..._1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1204512415&sr=8-1
Kinda sucks that it is $40. I was hoping for a price point close to Castle Shikigami 2.

How is Heavenly Guardian? I'm considering picking it up, but I didn't much like the SNES Pocky & Rocky games. Which doesn't really make sense - I guess I just really want another co-op shmup since my girlfriend and I are about to finish Red Star.

Its great to see all these shmups being released. I cant wait for 1942 and hopefully those cave games coming over here.

Anyone play King's Knight before?

It's on Wii VC and 500 pts.

The game looks terrible visually, but the gameplay looks...different.

I'd consider it if it was fun to play...
