GOG Deals Thread

Bah. That frustration you feel when you see a game on GOG you've never heard of that sounds interesting and has good reviews, and is on sale, but then you read on and everyone says it doesn't work unless you have XP or below.

I know its really annoying, I've passed on many games because of that.

Anyone mention whether or not the game works in compatibility mode? I got Clive Barker's Undying in this sale, and it totally flipped out when trying to run it on Vista (think it might have had something to do with the Vista graphics/desktop settings), but it works great when run in XP SP2 compatibility mode.

Got it working without any issue nor compatibility mode on W7. The game itself isn't all that imo... But I'm not wearing any nostalgia goggles here.

Which game?

Huh? I'm playing it on Windows 7 64bit and I don't really experience any issues.

Aside from the occasional crash, which is fixable but I'm to lazy to try it atm.

Something to do the with the unconverted sound files, not sure what is was.

http://www.gog.com/forum/desperados_series/possible_solution_to_crashes_maybe

Apparently the game was already fairly crash prone, however I haven't really played it enough to give a decent review of its current state.

:edit: I'm trying it out as we speak, using the WinFF method with Frequency at 22050

:edit2: Okay my savegames now crash on load, I must have screwed something up.

Thanks for that link, but reading it all, there doesn't seem to be a consistent fix. I might give it an effort in the future when I have less backlog.

And no new deals, only repeats.

My wallet is happy, my consumerist spirit is sad.

I think you can easily split them, actually. You buy the bundle as a gift code, redeem what you want, and then give the next person the code and they take whats left.

It used to be harder to split, but you can choose which games you want to redeem now.
If this is true, does anyone want to split the city builder pack? I don't need Children of the Nile Complete, but could use the rest. PM me if interested.

Mumble, mumble, GOG extras, mumble, DRM free, mumble.
Oh sorry yes it's totally worth paying $1.50 to rebuy an old ass game I already got free on Origin for some 1990s midis converted to mp3. What was I thinking?

Sometimes I forget the crowd here. And then I am reminded. Oh. GOG people.

I actually have a copy of Battle Realms on CD too. Got it at Big Lots years and years ago. Didn't play much but I remember it was a pretty good Asian-themed RTS with decent graphics for its time.

For some reason physical MysterD copies of the expansion are rare and expensive, so if you ever stumble on one in meatspace it's probably worth picking up.

Silence, infidel!

Noone speaks ill of the great and powerful GOG.

Great now time to be tempted by low percentage off but maybe wanted games (Outlaws, Toonstruck and Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb).....I have already spent about $22 in this sale.

Well, you weren't, obviously. But thankfully you were able to see the error of your ways.

Is there any chance that Chronicles of Riddick will be available on Steam?
Old games always get on Steam.....this one has been available for a while now on GOG...so likely...not for a while. I mean with about 30-40 indie games coming onto Steam everyday why would you even want this AAA game? Steam is so bogged down with crap now.....they need to expand their daily sales...the number of slots isn't appropriate anymore. Humble and GOG expanded theirs so I hope Steam follows suite during the upcoming summer sale.

Frankly, I don't understand why it's not on steam now. When it got removed, I assumed that it was an issue with an expiring license. But it's been available on GOG for about 2 years since it got removed from steam. So they still have the license. And it the same damn publisher as it was on steam. So it's not like it switched publishers to somebody who hates steam or anything like that.

Maybe they lost the license to sell it outside of certain regions and GOG just happens to be located in one of the regions where they can still sell it? I don't know. That's my only theory.

After this, I doubt they'll be worth much. Digital releases tend to make prices tank, doubly so if they're DRM free.

... it -was- on Steam for several years. But they removed it from sale because of the DRM, I guess.

You can still buy a Steam key at Gamestop US, it goes on sale regularly.

Why the heck don't they just remove the 3rd party DRM from Steam-version of Riddick: Dark Athena?

It's just still at this point.

I forget if it uses Tages or Securom - I have it from Retail DVD + GOG.

They have it on GoG all DRM-FREE style, so it's just plain silly now for it to still have 3rd-party crap on Steam.

Atari should just re-up that GOG version onto Steam. If they want, they can wrap CEG around Steam-version - if they must insist on it having DRM on Steam; Steam's fine as DRM.

Dude, it's Atari / Infogrames' corpse. Who the hell knows what it's doing.

So they're putting it all back up now, but the sale doesn't end until 6/21. Do they have 11 days of more stuff or just going to cycle through the same ones again?

The past couple of sales they've been doing a first week recap midway through the sale. There should be new deals tomorrow. Which will in turn be recapped at the end of the second week.

So just give back to the community after I got one of these codes the other morning:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky:

HTA85B3C696FD7

Pfft this sale is starting to get lame. I sure do hope they have something special planned for when the Steam sale starts.

I think I may just pick up Toonstruck...I remember playing a demo a long time ago and liking it. 50% off though....

They're starting to repeat deals if anyone was wondering.
I think the repeats are part of their whole "best of the summer sale" 48 hour sale deal... The page said that they were going to repeat all of the deals from the last week over 24 or 48 hours.

I think the best of summer is already over. Nothing on their front page indicates that. I recognize some of the games from early parts of the sale. You could be right but it looks like repeats the rest of the way....but I could be wrong. I think there are new bundles though.

If you missed out on any of our 2015 DRM-free Summer Sale deals so far, we have great news: all 650+ discounted games and 20 bundles are here for a 24-hour long recap until June 10, 11:59 AM GMT!
Yesterday the front page did mention that the non-bundle recap was for 48 hours.

Not sure if I should get POP collection....I did quite enjoy playing them back in the day and am sad I never finished the first or the 3rd and never played the last one.

Ha, I still have the A v P disc!  Got a lot of good original discs actually... Undying, Citizen Kabuto, Morrowind, C&C Gengerals, WC 3, even the original HL2 release.

Sold my copies of B/W 2 and Alice though...

It's tempting, to be sure. No uplay to deal with. No Tages to deal with. The price is as good as it's been on Steam.

It's missing one of the POP games, but I already have that one on Uplay.

Didn't one of the sites (EA?) Say something a month or two back about they were going to start giving digital copies to those who had physical copies of old games? I remember thinking I could do that with a few of my old games but then I forgot about it.

Anyone remember reading about something like this?

66% off was GOG's new 75% off last sale...now it seems like 50% is GOG's 75% off this sale....and GOG you're going to make me buy 3 or 4 other games I don't want with it?  Ummmmm...no.
