I dont understand how people haven't played HL1. Easily one of the BEST games out on the PC
I just built the first PC capable of playing Half Life (I've had a Mac). So, that's why this is my first experience.

Got a response to my canceled order.

Dear Graystone,
We apologize for this problem of having the order canceled, please try to place the order again or give us a call and we can place it for you over the phone during business hours. We do not have a clear idea on why it has been canceled at this time.
Thank you,

ok may I add WTF?

I reinstalled HL1 two months ago for shits and giggles, not having played it for, like, 8 years. Had forgotten Steam existed. Got Steam, entered my reg code from the set I bought years ago that included Opposing Force and Team Fortress Classic, and was able to download, for free, mods I hadn't even known existed at the time.

I discovered the Day of Defeat mod and a kickass multiplayer server where one doesn't have to deal with the bullshit of morons and cheaters because the admins are omnipresent and awesome (free plug for the 95th Rifles servers).

The cheap ass gamer in me absolutely loves getting this kind of entertainment value for the dollar from a game almost a decade after having spent money on it.

Heroes 4 is worth $5. Barely.

Be sure to download all the fan patches, though. And you probably only want to play fan-made maps, because there almost *isn't* a map AI. Fanmades solve this problem via heavy use of scripting and careful map design.

Combat AI is fine, tho.

Day of Defeat is one of the best multiplayer experiences I've ever had in my life. That game was incredibly well balanced and just a fuckin blast to play.

HL is well worth the $5. To this day, it still has some of the best multiplayer games around: Team Fortress Classic, Day of Defeat, CS, Natural Selection, Sven Co-Op.

If you have even a remote interest in FPS games -- or PC games in general -- you owe it to yourself to play HL.

I second that notion. It's a instant classic that resolutionize gaming industry.

I have a sealed copy of Half Life 2 sitting here next to my Xbox. After reading this thread, I decided to give Half Life 1 a chance. I guess I'll play One first then two.

Anyone who plays CS without playing HL first is making a big mistake. It gives you so much tutoring and familarize yourself with surrounding and movements.

A word of warning: Rise and Fall was not a well-reviewed game (fives and sixes across the board). For a cheap introduction to RTS, you'd be better off putting the five bucks toward something from the Age of Empires series, or anything by Relic, or even Starcraft if you've never played it.

That HL anthology is an unstoppable deal.

For some reason Half Life 1 made me sick whenever I tried playing the demo, so I've never played the full game.

To the person with a sealed Half Life 2-is that the X-Box version? It sounds like that's just a last-ditch way to play it if you have an ancient PC. Otherwise get the PC version (or wait for the PS3/360 version, though it'll cost a lot more).

Or just get Earth 2160, which is above average.

Heroes of Might and Magic IV for 4.90 + shipping is not a deal.

It doesn't include the expansion either... you can pick up the deluxe edition with the expansion on amazon new/used for 6$ + shipping (so like 10$).

That's a very good tip. In fact, if you want HoMM III as well, you can get a HoMM III + IV Complete version for about $20 shipped.

I added it on to my order from GoGamer with NWN because shipping cost didn't change, but by the time i realized that NWN was backordered and apparently never coming back in, they had already shipped it and it was too late to cancel it. If I was getting NWN it wouldn't be to bad, but as it is, I'm now paying $7 for just Heroes.

And I could return it, but there is a restocking fee of 10% or $5 minimum, so there's no sense returning it.

I lose. Bleh.

Maybe I can find a store that carries it and return it there or something.

Well that was a complete waste of time. I got my game alright but Steam really annoys me to the point I decided to not bother playing it.

If there is a version of Half Life (without Steam), I would try that.
