care to elaborate?
If you look at the current store ad in the original post, in the bottom section it says 2 Day Sale Friday and Saturday (July 15th and July 16th), 30% off use video games. Right now the sale is 20% off used video games. So all I was saying was it was a smart move to wait a little bit longer for a better deal to come along.

That is their in-store ad, though. The website and B&M stores often have different deals. I am not saying that they won't do the 30% online, but I don't think it's a guarantee either. Also, have you ever been into a Hastings store? The in-store prices are much higher than the website (ie 'new release' games are $53.99 used), so sometimes they get a little better discounts in the store. If they did do the 30% online without raising prices, that would no doubt be awesome, though!

Ya I just realized that now. I think I may order a few at 20% off just in case and then if it is 30% off in a few days, I will order the rest.

Good idea. I will be watching on Friday in hopes that they will do the 30% online, or at least a different deal than the current 20%.

On a related note, this is the first time I've seen a used game promotion for Hasting's B&M stores in well over a month. They had the whole Game Month promo in June, and never once had any discounts (30% off, B2G1 $1, etc...) on the HUGE collection of used games at my local store.

The OP is a wikia post, feel free to update a future deal as you see it if it isn't updated already. :)

Ok I just got my first bad game from them. I have ordered about 7 games before with no issues but now my copy of BBC2 will not install and gets an error when trying to load the multiplayer. What is the best course of action? Are they going to make me pay to ship it back? I also read they won't refund shipping costs. Might be the last time I buy from them. Any suggestions before I call would be helpful.

I'm guessing this is an XBOX game?
You can try this. But, it sucks they would sell games that a simple inspection of the disc would lead to doubts that the game would be playable.

You can try PMing the gohastings representative that frequents the forums and see what he/she says about it. You come off as rational, so I don't think they would blow you off.

I doubt they have even considered refinishing their used game discs before selling them...or at least guaranteeing playability on used game purchases. Maybe we could start a campaign here on CAG for them to do so...

Hey thanks for the suggestions. I really tried to rehab the disc but no success. It actually does not look bad but it stops installing at 33% on both my 360s (old/slim) and says it is dirty.

I actually had a good CS call. They are sending me a prepaid mailing slip and refunding me the full price since they do not have any on stock to exchange. I have never had an issue but this one was bad. The case looked like a 3 year old had been gnawing on it :). At this point I am fine with the return as long as I get all my money back.

Yeah you would think taking the time to check playability would be in their best interest since the return must eat into some of the profit.

Thanks!

Just got a PS3 and was looking for the best deals on my first game(s).

Snagged Metal Gear Solid 4 and Uncharted 2 for only $29.

Not the best of deals but still great considering I was going to buy from Amazon for a bit more.

Ordered 3 used DS games from them for the %40 off short deal they ran a little while ago and was very happy.
Hoping that these two PS3 games come complete, or at least with a nice case.

Just ordered 9 Strategy guides for $25 shipped. Funny how if I went to Gamestop to buy just one of these guides new it would have cost about $22 after tax.....

To further address your concerns, I had forwarded your inquiry and received a response. It's also added to the OP.

"In regards to the defective discs, we do have policies about checking them and buffering. Unfortunately, we do struggle ensuring that the procedures are consistently followed. Every store has a buffer machine and and we have implemented specific instructions about how to check and when to buffer and at what level to buffer. We're even getting ready to roll out disc checkers to our stores.

We do monitor the defect rate and stores that are out of norm will be re-trained.

The great majority of our product is shipped w/o defects and we always guarantee them 100%. Refunds are freely given on defective product."

This is good news for anyone with qualms about purchasing XBOX games.
doh! ALL of my games in my cart OVERNIGHT jumped 10 to TWENTY dollars each. Ridiculous.
Wow same here, oh well, a few less in the backlog won't kill me.

****************CAUTION****************CAUITION*****************CAUTION************CAUTION*****************CAUTION**********************CAUTION*******************CAUTION************************Hey fellas, I never post - but I NEEDED to tell you that GoHastings just INCREASED their prices DRAMATICALLY overnight. Me thinks it's for the 40% sale coming. Thanks GoHastings! I'm sorry if someone else has picked this up, I just checked this morning and wanted to quickly post before running to work!

That's likely if you had a bunch of popular new releases in your cart.

I had some games that were actually subtantially lower today.
A game went from $24.99 to $12.99...I went ahead and bought it with the JINGLEBELLS code for under $10.40...good deal to me.

Even with what had increased they averaged to about 25% off of yesterday's prices...and still better than almost every other used retailer.

omg, every sale people bitch about them raising the prices. Yet countless people still find games to buy and like the deals. This is their business practice. Offer what seems like a high discount of 20-40% and then make it about 10-30% by raising prices. They do it everytime, stop acting surprised and offended! There are often still deals to be had and the used games usually come in good condition complete.

I had Borderlands and fear 2 in my cart and they went from about 10 bucks a piece to 17.99??!! so its not just popular new releases

everything on my cart almost doubled in price (older and newer games) except 2 games and those were my maybe games :( Well, more money in my pocket.

Well, they raised all their prices of used games. One game that was $28 yesterday is now $45 used (so after the 40% you will save... $1!!!). Others have been raised by a good $10.

I understand their tactic as most people really are clueless and will think "Wow what a deal!" When in fact they are still paying regular price for each game. Still annoying though. In fact you will be paying more because there is a 20% off used games code out now.

Final Fantasy XIII was $13 used the other day, now it is $27 used. Mind you it is NEW for $15. Brilliant.

Yeah, I mostly agree with this. Last time I found awesome deals much easier though. It may just be certain games and hit or miss, but this time (if the prices stay the same into tomorrow) most of the games are not worth it for me. Again, might just be the selection I want.

As others have said, the price increases really only ruin the cheaper games, which are better bought during the b2g1 or free ship sales.

The more expensive games that I had in my cart are still substantially less after 40% than they were yesterday.

The prices all jumped $10-$15 for me, depending on the item. You still save money on prices above $25, and still substantially so on the $40+ stuff.

Shadows of the damned and fear 3 are both $32 after discount, which is not shabby at all and still 25% off yesterday's price.

Wow this is such bullshit. Do they really think buyers are this dumb? First Templar jumped from $28 to $53! Almost every semi-new release is $53 used now. Even WWE All Stars. Killzone jumped from $32 to $53. This sale is fucking worthless now.

They may drop again, before the last 30% sale I'm sure I was surprised about the price of some games dropping, that might have just been a coincidence of course.

In some ways I'm glad this happened, it will stop me buying a bunch more games that I'll probably never play.

Was watching the following games and am both LOLed and pissed at these price jumps, this is the craziest one:

Singstar Abba: Current=$24 Yesterday=$6.25

I bought AC:B a week ago for $20, was annoyed I bought it before the 30% off deal, now it is $35.

Yes, companies will raise prices during sales many times. Just because it happens a lot and we can expect it does not mean we shouldn't be annoyed that they do it. It is a disingenuous tactic, essentially they are trying to trick people. That is not nice. Why wouldn't I be justified in getting annoyed when someone does something that isn't nice?

When I discovered GoHastings a few weeks ago, I thought I just just found an amazing company. Now I see they are jerks like many others. Occasionally good prices, but same bad tactics.

Well, why don't you guys sound off on their Facebook page instead of here...
Maybe if you forwarded your complaints to the actual company instead of a message board, you might see results, otherwise you're just ranting to a wall.

Ferrari Challenge $7 the whole week, 29.99 today. Yet its still $7.79 in their amazon store.

Motorstorm Pacific Rift, $13 the whole week, 26.99 today. Yet its still $14.70 in their amazon store.

This isn't their normal pricing fluctuations based on inventory. This is just plain old gouging.

Would anyone from Hastings care to respond? If not, I've made my last purchase with you.

Lol, the 1 game I was looking for during this sale (Dynasty Warriors 6 for 360) jumped from $9.02 to $34.99.

What a DEAL!

I am the first person to defend Hastings, as I've always had good experiences from them, but this is insane. This isn't even Gamestop insane, it's much worse. I seriously am considering avoiding them for a while because of this. It's just an incredible slap in the face because they billed it as "if you missed the last sale, let us hook you up."

I haven't had any problems with Hastings, but this is pretty obvious. It's not an algorithm or any other bullshit their hastings rep may say.

Hastings reminds me of DDD (now just DD). DDD used to be great but the more popular it got, the worse their sales and service became. I really hope it doesn't become that bad

1. Hastings is actually not known for doing this across the board. And in some cases, the prices drop on many games.

2. I've never seen a company raise prices so much that it not only negates the entire discount, but it ends up being more than it would've been previously without any discount at the older price.

Shady, shady stuff.

damnnn, my cart total was $145 last night, so given the 40% off would've been around $85-90. This morning = $243, after 40% off would be $145 (the cart price last night) lol... Mafia II was $10 now $53. I can buy a brand new copy for $20!!

No no, I'm not complaining. This is hilarious! I'm kinda glad the price went up, it turned my buying impulses off. hehe

LMAO. So ridiculous.

I'm curious if putting an item in you cart is rated the same as a purchase by their algorithm. Maybe we can organize something and put like a Hannah Montana game and see if the price shoots up.
Anyone know if the 40% off code is only good for 7/15, or can we hold onto the code till the prices go back down?
Good question, guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Hah! You want to know whats really funny? Look at my last comment from 2 hours ago...

Just now, they jacked up the amazon prices of the exact 2 games that I mentioned. Goodbye Hastings, you'll never see any of my money again.

GoHastings usually has some sort of "Every Day Discount" on most used games. You see this when the price is presented in red. It may be a few cents, it may be a significant dollar amount.

Looking over my wish list, every in stock game has lost its red every day discount and they're all priced at the full base price for the item, which in most cases is double what they were asking before even on the base price.

I've placed many orders with GoHastings and have been using their site for a while now. This is the first time I've ever seen them do this. This is clearly raising prices for the upcoming 40% off sale.

This wasn't their normal practice in the past where the red line price was usually based on stock and other factors for their algorithm, which never was purposely raised for any coupon sales.

As for everyone bitching and moaning and "Goodbye Hastings, you'll never see any of my money again." .... Please. Grow up.

Every time Amazon has a B2G1 sale, they jack up their prices from their "every day discount" and usually there's very little deals by way of B2G1. People say its shitty, but I don't hear people saying "I'll never shop at Amazon again!"

There might not be many good deals here with 40% off of their base price without any further every day discount. So go ahead and bitch about it in this thread if yelling at a wall makes you feel better. Or go take it to GoHasting's Facebook, Twitter, or customer service. This will likely be a bad sale. Every retailer has non-sale sales.

But there is no need to swear off them forever. The prices will eventually go back down, we'll have more Shipping/B2G1/%off deals and deals will be had by people who don't overreact.

There will still be good deals, just nothing ridiculous. I'm sure most of their prices with discounts are better than most other online retailers, though. Not to mention their prices fluctuate (both ways, even!) and sometimes end up as pretty good deals for those who are patient.

I'm still looking forward to using the 40% off coupon.

Ya Left 4 Dead 2 went from $17.99 to $26.99. Luckily I got it during the last sale so it was like $12.

I'm still happy there is a coupon but hopefully they don't raise all of the prices or I will hold on to it till the very last day hoping for better prices.

Normally I'd agree with you, even defend GoHastings - heck, I occasionally see prices go DOWN on some titles right before a sale.

But the increases THIS time are truly astounding and nearly across the board.

Some 360 Examples: (all "new" prices reflect new prices of Used items, NOT "new new")

Unreal Tournament 3
Old price: about $8. New price: $17.99.

Dragon Age 2
Old price: $23-ish. New price: $53.99

and my personal favorite hike:

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger
Old price: about $10. New price: $39.99

The red slashed prices are, by and large, gone. Only one I see in my Wish List of 50+ items is Rango, which is OOS.

I did see one decrease, though, and that's Raiden Fighter Aces, down from about $15 to $9.96. But that's also OOS, so it's a moot point.

Guess we'll see at midnight-ish what the story is, assuming the codes are emailed out by then. Hope to see a couple red-slashed prices to stack the 40% code with, but not the end of the world if this one sale doesn't work out. There will be others.

Some items in my wishlist are more expensive. However Vanquish dropped to $13 :D. Buy it before it goes OOS or they increase the price.

Just got Bulletstorm from the 25% off 4th of july sale. Very happy with it. I got the PS3 version and it came basically new. It is the limited edition version with an unused limited edition dlc and online pass. It seems as if it was just opened and then shipped to me. Pretty awesome for about $17.
