Is this something new? not too happy about this I purchased Alpha Protocol listed as new from them few days ago. It Arrived today with no shrink wrap!

Contact them about it. CS details are in the gohastings thread in the deal forum. I don't think I've ever ordered a new game from them so I don't know for sure what their in store policy is for storing new games (which is relevant because internet orders are fulfilled from retail stores). Hopefully they don't use the GameStop method. Thats the only reason I could think of for the shrink wrap being removed. Either that or they accidentally sent you a used copy.

Yes. This is the newest thing ever.

I'm pretty sure they were an amazon selller that screwed me a while ago. I ordered a new game and it came in with a 'certified used' sticker on it and it had obviously been resealed. Theres a reason they have a 96% rating there. A lot of people have complained about them before on this forum. Though usually its for crap like sending the wrong games, canceling orders, ect

definitely a shady company

It has happened a few times, the worst was when I ordered a new game and got a disc only game in a generic case. It was under $1 (back when they had some new games for under $1 once in a while), but I won't order a new game from them anymore unless it is very cheap.

I can't find the thread, but someone else complained about this awhile ago(around March?). In fact, I'm pretty sure they also ordered Alpha Protocol new & got an opened copy.

I remember the person complained to gohastings CS about it. Which they apparently got a pissy CS rep. As they were told if they weren't happy with what they got, to ship it back on their own dime for a refund.

So they've been doing for at least 6 months.

Yeah, it's got to a point on Amazon where if it's not sold by Amazon directly, I'll just buy a used copy. Because chances are that if I order something "new" on there from a 3rd party seller, it's a resealed used copy.

Don't even bother with items from "Direct Liquidations" on there, it's just another name NorAm sells under. Which is another major one that sells used stuff as new.

theres a couple 3rd party sellers that seem ok. I forget the name but one with a beaver icon is pretty good, and i dont think ive had a problem with hubba games. But ya.. usually i try to avoid 3rd party vendors unless they have 100% rating and even then im leery. Go Hastings is definitely one of the shadier ones

They're not a shady company. They're a publicly traded company with shareholders to answer to. Lots of people have complained about issues with various things, but they're not out to commit fraud or anything.

GoHastings has no warehouse. Everything is shipped from whatever retail location has it in stock. They fuck up sending the wrong thing often. You ordered a new game, some employee just read the title on the order form and shoved a used one in the mail. That is a huge fuck up, but they're not trying to intentionally screw you. Unfortunately some shitty employee fucked up your order, nothing more, nothing less.

Its unfortunate they got a pissy CS rep but other than this story of yours which you are trying to remember from months ago, I've never heard of them telling someone to send back the wrong item on their own dime when Hastings fucked up the order. They have a blanket PDF they can email you to return the item on their dime when they fuck up with instructions and a shipping label where the post office charges Hastings for shipping when the item arrives back with them.

CaoPi - Hastings screws up all the time, but its incompetence, not fraud. For as many times as I've read complaints of "they've sent me used instead of new" I've seen just as many "Sweet they sent me a factory sealed game instead of a used game."

Like I said before, if you're not happy with accidentally getting a used game, CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE. What good does this thread do you? While it would be bad if this was a widespread problem, maybe it just happened to you (and MAYBE one other person 8 months ago), so just worry about yourself and contact them and get a refund. If customer service blows you off, then go take your story to the Consumerist or something.

I generally order used games only from them, this is the first screw up new game/used game I've received. I've ordered new games in the past but never got this problem before. I made this thread to see if anyone else has had this problem.

Hell I heard people getting gutted games when ordering from gamestop online. I never received a gutted copy from gamestop.com before.

Ohhh, and no company thats publicly traded ever does shady business practices, right? Seriously, what does being a publicly traded company have to do with anything?

No, thats fucking shady. If an employee cant be bothered to check if a game is new or used, and doesn't care, then thats what id call a shady, lazy company. A reputable one would take the time to properly read your invoices and send the right items. Besides you dont know thats what happened. Its just as likely they tried to pass off a used game as new. Theres too many complaints for everything to just be mistakes.

Even assuming that this is really just a bunch of mistakes. Then theyre just a SHITTY company. Not a shady one, whatever.

You mean like WalMart that pays it's employees garbage wages, refuses to offer health insurance for their employees and bullies providers into giving them the lowest prices for their items, all while building stores so close together(there are literally FOUR of their stores w/in 20 miles of me, all Supercenters) that they strangle off any competition just by overlapping the coverage of their stores?

People make mistakes. It's part of being human. For all you know Hastings could require a certain rate per hour of items pulled/packed/shipped from employees so the employees have only moments to glance at the order slips and pick what they feel is the right item.

Besides which, people just like to complain for the sake of complaining. Even if a company makes things right, people will still piss and moan about how they 'omg wasted their time'. If your time is so valuable, then shop around and find a company that doesn't make any mistakes ever. Good luck with that though, as EVERY company makes mistakes.

It all comes down to how the customer asks for a refund/exchange, of which Hastings only does refunds apparently. But if I were a CSR and a customer comes on the line and they're immediately belligerent and DEMANDING this and DEMANDING that, I'd be tempted to tell them to go fuck themselves.

If you're polite and actually ask what can be done without being an asshole to someone who is just doing a job to make a living, then you'll get further than if you're some asshat douchebag who thinks you're OWED something for them making what was most likely an honest mistake.

So they're shady, then lazy, then shitty, but not shady? When you learn what words actually mean, let me know.
Bragged a little, getting my refund from gohastings. They told me to go ahead and keep the game
If you just called them in the first place, this thread would've been titled "gohastings gave me a free game"

I've never had a problem with them, and, in fact, the last used game I ordered, was a new one. Of course you won't read about people getting new instead of used near as often as the other way around.

Compared to Gamestop, Go Hastings is king.
