Just curios as to what the turn out will be with all the game stores having the midnight party promotions. I'm going with a friend to 2 different stores 2night. GR to get my copy and EB to get his copy both are open till 2 so we'll just hang out at which ever one has the best crap going on and the best freebies. Prolly EB since they are supposed to have a Halo 2 lan set up and you play for prizes.

Im going to EB. I vowed to never shop there again, but I had my preorder before I made that decision. But this is the last time I will ever go there again. I called to see whats up, and the bitch was so fucking rude.

i figure i might stand in my hallway for fifteen minutes, then take one step forward, wait another fifteen minutes, and so on. i'll have the same experience as if i had an xbox and tried to get halo2 on opening night.
 
headin out in about a half hour to goto eb

called to see what was up and the manager answered "Welcome to EB, this is Master Cheif Jason at your Halo 2 headwuarters, how may i help you?" this was from the same place where "Welcome to EB where we are thuggin and buggin at your Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas headquarters"

I wouldnt be half suprized if i walked in and saw the guys in cardboard Spartan armor =/

If you have such a bad time there with the people/store stand up to your own words and don't shop there anymore. You could have easily moved your preorder to another store and not dealt with EB. So, if your bitching about EB, sounds like its your own fault for not moving your preorder.
 
Lucky me, I get to work one. It will be fun though. We're dressing casual, having snacks and drinks, and we're gonna have a big-screen playing Red Vs Blue. I'll post if anything interesting happens,

Show up at 11:50PM, rung up at midnight, home by 12:10AM online playing Halo 2 until 5PM tomorrow night.

I was going to go for a 24 hour session but I have a 6PM appointment I can't miss. BLAH!

My EB games and Gamestop employees are really cool. I normally alternate buying stuff from them, since I enjoy both stores equally. Sorry to hear that some CAGs have less luck with their stores.
 
I work at 7:00 AM-10:00 PM on Tuesday. I debated about playing hooky for 15 seconds, then I realized people depend on me, and Halo 2 is only a game.

I'm going to pick it up Wednesday. I hope there's still a copy for me!
 
Woo.. just got back from "registration" at EB.. i'm in the low 100 numbers. Registration started at 9.. I showed up at 845 and they were already 100 in.. insane. It's fun though! The EB guys are dressed up like army guys, there's Halo 2 balloons, there's gonna be a fog machine and whatnot, giveaways.. fun times. I have to go back at 11, but I'll arrive at 10:45 or so.

Registration? Is that just for people who didn't pre-order? Can't imagine that they'd have some sort of b.s. queing system.
 
I got a call from GameStop, a recorded message stating that the following "Halo will be available tonight at midnight, if you dont pick up your copy within 48 hours, we will not be able to hold your copy after tthat since it is in such high demand....." WTF! Isnt this why we preorder shit, so that its guaranteed to be there when we pick it up. I'm currently in Chicago, and I wont be able to pick it up there, but I preorderd another copy at BB here and I'll be picking up tomorrow.....Stupid Gamestop, when I get back I better get my $ back.

It's not insane (at least for a college kid). I'm in the same boat you are (minus playing tonight). I figured on being up until 2 am anyway tonight writing papers and studying for a test, so what's a trip to GameRush to pick up the only game I'm excited about this year?
 
I'm picking up my copy tommorow after school. I wanted to go tonight, but its not worth screwing my week over for a game. Plus, if I went tonight I wouldn't have time to study and stuff. Its either get it tonight and play for 15 mins before going to bed or pick it up tomm and play for a couple hours straight. No contest.

They need a "bs queueing system" because there's over 800 people showing up tonight. They're taking 50 at a time. It's pre-orders only tonight.. and probably tomorrow, too.

Its just a game. I dont really see the point in going out to get it at midnight, but to each his own. I have a friend thats going to pick it up a midnight, and Im sure he will have a great time. Maybe someday, when I dont have school to worry about anymore I will go to midnight sales. Who knows what the future holds?

I'm heading out the door in about ten minutes to Rock Hill and the GameRush where my Collector's Edition is reserved and waiting for me. At least it better be, if not, there will be hell to pay.

I kinda did that, but it was GTA:SA release day, and I just wanted to look for something. Also happened to be in the mall cause I wanted to eat dinner at the friendly's next door. Needless to say, I didn't make it into EB that night and ended up chilling out eating a burger, watching the GTA line. I wondered whether I could get in to just walk around, but I didn't bother.

Just got back (12:30) from GameRush. I waited about five minutes in line and picked up my Collector's Edition. They passed out free Halo 2 key chains, and that was about it. There were maybe 40 people there when I left.

They had a small competition going on using Halo 1 in multi-player. The pistol was the weapon of choice. It became rather boring to watch as no-one ever got close enought to fight one another. Everyone was killed before they ever got in close.

Now, back to studying. Yeah, right.
 
just saw on the local news a segment that showed a line outside an eb games in philly with maybe 150 people in line. As people were walking through the door they were handing out free guides a huge stack of them.
 
I came back from my EB... let me say just one thing... there are geeks... there are gaming geeks... there are Xbox gaming geeks... those I can tolerate... at the midnight release, there was a few Microsoft Xbox Halo fanboy geekfest asshats... first off, they were telling Halo jokes; bad ones... methinks that if you tell a joke and no one but YOUR friends laugh, it's not funny... and retelling it 19 different ways with the same punchline ain't gonna squeeze some funny out of it... the joke went something like 'gee, tough choices: do I go to my wedding or do I play Halo 2?' 'Do I take the BAR exam or do I play Halo 2?' 'do I _______ or do I play some Halo 2?' I'm sorry sir, wads who live in their parent's converted basement, hosting LAN parties between solo sessions of D&D don't exactly get married, let alone have a girlfriend...

They also made fun of the fact that I wore my Metroid Prime 2: Echoes shirt (the green solid tee with the Bounty hunters logo on the back) to a Microsoft event... damnit, a shirt is a shirt... speaking of which, the EB associate called out a number of the ticket we had to get in the line. She was giving away a Halo 2 Tshirt... guess which number got called... :p In your face, nerds... the fact that they were steamed about that alone made my whole night...

I was gonna take pictures, but the rent-a-badge told me to 'drop my gun'. Didn't know most guns were silver, shaped like a camera and had a viewfinder on them... like most cameras do...

In total, I got the Limited Edition, the guide, and the free shirt... score...

Umm... those weren't free, partner... the associates want your business, ALL OF IT... I highly doubt they were just 'giving away' the official guide which retails at $16 a pop... they shoved a guide into my hands the minute I came in, even though I was intent on getting one anyhow... sometimes, we purchase things simply because... and with the demand for anything Halo related at its peak tonight, you could have sold [them] a used napkin with Halo 2 on it and made a profit...

Unless I'm wrong and they WERE giving guides away... in that case, carry on...
 
Me and my buddy went to Gamerush, got there about 9:30 and the place was packed. They had the biggest radio station in the area broadcasting there and giving out stuff. I won a copy of Halo 2 in the first drawing of the night. :D

They had a big Halo 1 tourney and the winner got a LE Halo 2 but it was still going on when we left. It was good times. :D First time i'd waited for a release since the PS2 came out.
 
I rode by Best Buy at 11:55 and saw probably 100 people standing out front. I proceeded to do a U-turn, head to Media Play, where approximately 8 people were in the store. I walked in, no preorder, got my limited edition, and now it sits here. Anyone else mad that Micro$oft couldn't even spring for a two disc holder in the LE? I mean BOTH discs were on the single spindle. Lame.
 
in about an hour im gona go work at eb and were expecting around 150-200. looking forward to it..and ill post what happened. hope all goes well with your halo 2 trips
