Skimmed the headline and thought... ah crap doesn't that just show what the US is all about when a MTV made-up 'superstar' who has really done nothing for culture writes and autobiography and its #1 in sales....

then I read it wasn't a book but a CD..

And the music industy wonders why sales are down. Its mass produced shit. If I was jacked with a nice smile, i could be in a boy band. Give me a break!

i dont really know who ashley simpson is, but you guys need to relax a bit and not get so angry at celebrities. just ignore the mainstream ^^

Since when did contributing to culture become a prerequisite to CD sales? I don't think you can judge a whole nation just because teenage girls are buying CDs.

Oh and speaking of made-up superstars, Avril "product of Canada" Lavigne has also been number 1 in sales, not only in US, Europe, and Canada as well.
 
So far this has been a really bad decade for music. No one is going to remember Ashley Simpson 5 years from now - much less her sister.

I feel sorry for this generation of kids growing up with this crap.

being born in canada doesn't make her a 'product of canada' she is less a star here than in US. Being a product of the american music machine can 'make' someone #1 all over. Look at bands like great big sea, tea party, mitchell hunter, tragically hip, cowboy junkies and more.. those are canadian bands but aren't #1 cause they aren't on MTV.. (this ain't just an anti-america rant.. there are TONS of bands fromt heUS that have great music but just aren't marketed.


favorite... Texas band.. Cross Canadian Ragweed. (they are UBER american but have a great sound ((and a great name!)) )

A Simpson looks like a large nosed monkey and sounds like wet fart. She has little to no talent and has only gotten far because of her sister and last name.

I have been saying this for years. The music of today is best catergorized as "disposable music". Very few, if any, hits will be remembered like the songs of the 70's, 80's and previous decades were were. The music of today is designed by producers to produce profit above all else. Therefore there is really no soul to the songs. Now, there are exceptions (Norah Jones being a good example) of artists (on MAJOR labels) that have music from their heart and can still be successful but they are few and far between. I have more MP3's from the 70's than any other time period. Back then, image was not as big a deal. Now, everyone wants to be on TRL or E!. I think the independent scene can only grow from this.
