FUNNYMAN EDDIE MURPHY will play The Riddler in the next Batman movie, The Sun can reveal.

Gotham villain ... Eddie Murphy
The Beverly Hills Cop star, 47, has been signed up by British director CHRISTOPHER NOLAN to reprise the role played by JIM CARREY in 1995’s Batman Forever.

The surprise move follows speculation linking Pirates of the Caribbean star JOHNNY DEPP to the part.

The film, set for a 2010 release, is being developed under the working title Gotham.

Execs have also signed up rising Transformers star SHIA LABEOUF, 22, to play Robin.

CHRISTIAN BALE will return as Bruce Wayne, while MICHAEL CAINE will again play Bruce’s assistant Alfred.

Meanwhile, Brit RACHEL WEISZ is said to be up for the Catwoman role.

*Possible Spoiler*
Insiders also revealed to The Sun the flick will end on a cliffhanger over whether Batman survives a blast at Wayne Towers.

Nolan had been tight-lipped about the future of the Batman films after being rocked by the January death of HEATH LEDGER — tipped to receive a posthumous Oscar for his role as The Joker in Batman Returns.

A film insider said: “Chris wasn’t sure if he wanted to do another movie but as soon as he decided to, he got the wheels in motion.

“Eddie’s a fantastic addition. Everyone’s excited to see what he does as the Riddler.”

Don't like the sound of this, take it for what it's worth.

I don't care for Robin being introduced and am more than skeptical about Eddie Murphy.

Yeah, I thought Nolan said he was anti-Robin for the world of Batman he was going to create.
Unless they really threw enough money at them. This sort of reminds me of how the Batman movie series got ruined in the first place. I kinda hope it's true so I can laugh my ass off. It'll be totally worth it since we all have The Dark Knight to cherish.
For fucks sake, it's from THE SUN. Weekly World News has more credibility.
Exactly. It's a BS story to drive page hits and issue sales.
R.I.P. Weekly World News. :[
Apparently, and coincidentally, Weekly World News isn't dead- it's printed inside the Sun.

i hope its not true.

but there E! has said Rachel Weisz is going to be Catwoman too, so that part of the rumor is a lot stronger than the others.

This is obviously fake (and it's so fake it might as well be from the onion).

And obviously David Tennant should be the Riddler.

steve buscemi would make an awesome Ventriloquist. and one way around the robin thing would be to make someone nightwing.

"Nolan had been tight-lipped about the future of the Batman films after being rocked by the January death of HEATH LEDGER — tipped to receive a posthumous Oscar for his role as The Joker in Batman Returns."

This is very clearly fake.

Will we get a heartwarming coming of age story for Dick Grayson

Do you think that Nolan's updated Riddler will use a mind control system with waggle

Are we going to get Jennifer Love Hewitt as batgirl in the fourth movie of the trilogie

Do you think that Nolan will be able to match or improve the laundry scene of Batman and Robin

Is there any possibility Danny Elfman will compose the soundtrack

I maybe in the manority here but would like to see Dick Grayson (not Robin) at the end of Batman 3. Like Bruce see's the Graysons die, I think it would bring the movie back around. But Labeouf NO, he's to old and hasn't he done enough.
So I call bull on this whole story. Any way Nolan said he wouldn't have Robin in it, and that he hasn't even started writing the script or signed on for that matter.

More fake than a porn star's tits.

Eddie Murphy's career is comprised of stupid family movies now. Plus it's already been said that Robin will not appear in this Bale movies.

Still think they could find a way to make Nightwing work.
Nolan could make The Riddler work. The Penguin, on the other hand...
The Penguin could work if they just made him a mobster with the nickname Penguin like during the last season of Batman TAS.

Shia Labeouf or however the fuck you spell his name confirms it: this movie will suck.

Seriously, that guy ruins everything he fucking touches.

At least we got two good movies out of Batman reboot.

And obviously David Tennant should be the Riddler.
Agreed on both points.

This is very clearly fake.
Good catch.
Who knows about Eddie Murphy? Believe it or not, everyone hated Heath Ledger for the Joker when it was announced.
You're right -- Eddie Murphy should have been the Joker! Just imagine the Axel Foley laugh coming from the Joker and think about what could have been.

Early to mid-80's Eddie was awesome. Golden Child, Beverly Hills Cop, 48 Hours, Trading Places were all great. The only movie he has done post-80's that I liked was the underrated Bowfinger with Steve Martin.

Where's Bat Boy? Last I heard he was reading the Dead Sea Scrolls with JFK, Jr.

you know honestly, in the world nolan made, I think eddie murphy would be great as the riddler but the only thing that makes this rumor false is that you know exactly how eddie murphy would play the riddler. (kind of like when it was suggested that robin williams was going to play the joker) honestly until completely unbiased actors are picked to play the riddler and catwoman I am not going to belive any rumor just yet.
The Penguin could work if they just made him a mobster with the nickname Penguin like during the last season of Batman TAS.
I think Phillip Seymor Hoffman as the Penguin could work, but as Nolan said it'd be a tough sell.

I feel bad for anyone who gets cast to play the villain in the next movie. I don't see how anyone can top Ledger's Joker. He made that movie good.
Still think they could find a way to make Nightwing work.
Agreed.

Nightwing has a place in the new franchise and it wouldn't be that difficult to include him.
