Grammy nominated King Diamond screams "Metal Heads Unite!!"
Google emphasized it being a female duo, and the google image preview was just semi-lusty pictures of the two. Pass on using sexuality to sell a band alone.

Find me someone who sounds like Victoria Scalisi, and then you'll have my utmost attention.
Mis, from Moonshine maybe? Can't quite recall Damad off the top of my head. Perhaps Laura Pleasents, since Kylesa has some ex-Damad people?
I caught Opeth, Mastodon & Ghost last night.

I do have a confession to make: For some reason I never gave Opeth a chance. There are some bands that fall through the cracks and Opeth was one of those bands for me. So this was my first exposure to them and I liked them. Its was strange but different too.

I guess Blackwater Park might be the first album I should start off with unless you guys have other suggestions.
Get "Ghost Reveries", too. Or at least Spotify it. "My Arms, Your Hearse" is good, too.

I haven't visited this thread in a while, so it would appear that I have some new-band-listening-to to do.

Two albums I have been digging recently are Gallows End's "Nemesis Divine" and Unleashed's "Odalheim". Hell's "Human Remains" is good, too.

I would start with Deliverance or Still Life to be honest.

BWP is the go-to starter album. Within that same group of classic albums, "My Arms, Your Hearse" and "Still Life". Especially the latter which is better than BWP, imo.
What the folksy, prog rock album they did? Was it Damnation? That was a decent mellow album.
That's Heritage. That's the newest one. Deliverance and Damnation came out at the same time. Damnation is the super mellow not rockish whatsoever album. That's a damn good album too.

Two songs into the new Burzum and it might be suffering from Death Magnetic volume issues, or these headphones are getting rough. Musically much better though. Dude learned how to play bass it would seem.
On the other hand, the 1st riff from Alfadanz is worth the $10 iTunes price for the whole record.

I'm not sure what the deal is with the first 4 or 5 minutes of the record with the volume, but it corrects itself after that. This is astonishingly good and a close second to Filosofem.

Man I haven't thought about Zimmer's Hole in forever. I'm a sucker for anything Dev does. Actually, ZH and Punky Bruster were my introduction to him, which is really strange in retrospect. My friend did the multimedia part of the CD for his Physicist album and played me a bunch of his stuff, starting with those two projects.

Just over 2 months until new Testament album. Bonus disc version has covers of Maiden's Powerslave, Queen's Dragon Attack, and Scorpions' Animal Magnetism.

Just got my re-issue of Dopesmoker in the mail. So stoked to see Sleep next month. It's looking awesome for shows: Tragedy on Friday, Nasum on Saturday, Sleep the next Sunday, and Yob the Friday after that.

Seeing Nasum on Wednesday, saw tragedy the week before last, and saw Sleep in mid-2011. Tragedy was a hella good show, though. They didn't play "Crucifier," but since they start with "Conflicting Ideas," I was hooked from the start.

shit dude, let me vacuum first!

Seriously loving the new Burzum record. I'll have to go back to back between this and Filosofem at some point, but this might even surpass it as his best work. That says a lot considering how much I love Belus and fell that Filosofem is more or less the benchmark of this type of black metal.

fuck me, thank you for reminding me about the Sleep re-issue! Although maybe I shouldn't thank you because I seriously want every package Southern Lord offers and the hoodie...

Is there any way to get that Southern Lord stuff without paying as much in shipping at Southern Lord charges?

i.e., I'd love to get a couple lps from them, but with shipping I'm paying $40-50 (or more!) for 2 records and a shirt. Do other online stores carry their releases?

Tons do, but few have the extras. Like with Sleep, if you want the poster and LE shirt, you're ordering from them. I never had a problem with thier shipping prices but then again I never order LPs, just CDs.

Wow, they absolutely rape you on shipping. For the CD bundle and the hoodie, they're charging me $16.48 for shipping and tax. I'm pretty sure any other website would be less than $8. Guess I'll pass on the LP bundle since that would put my order over $100 and probably charge me $20 more in shipping.

Shipping does seem to peter out once you order enough. Two orders I've placed in the past few months contained ~10 CDs each and at that point the shipping was only a dollar or two more expensive than 5 CDs.

Probably also depends on whether they're able to ship media mail or not.

I'll take this discussion as a "no," then.

Yeah, if I'm buying physical music, it's gonna be the record. I'll buy an lp or I'll buy digital. CDs don't do it for me anymore.

I would buy LPs more but I like being able to conviniently listen to a disc in my car. Also doesn't help that the needle from my player fell out and is now buried in my carpet somewhere. I need to get a turntable that isn't older than I am.

And

LPgear.com

Have good turntable cartridges etc. Depending on how much you want to spend. I though to be honest. Vintage turntables ar better than new ones depending on which you have. With minimal upgrades or maintenance you might want to keep the one you have. It's an expensive hobby. Sigh.

Decent show. The guy-who-is-not-Mieszko sounded really good. All the sets were super short (Nasum = 45 minutes, Brutal Truth = 30 minutes, Dropdead = 20 minutes). They were on a tight schedule b/c the venue was holding a dance party afterward, so everything had to be done by 10PM. So it felt rushed and brief, which isn't how I wanted to experience Nasum's "farewell tour" (I wouldn't doubt if they did it again, perhaps in a few years).

I couldn't tell you song titles (man, I've never been good with that sort of thing w/ grind bands), but Nasum's set sounded like earlier material, and Brutal Truth played across the spectrum. Dropdead played Dropdead songs.

They had hella nice screen printed posters for the show that were $5. I was going to buy one on my way out the door, since I walked to the venue (i.e., I'd have to hold onto the poster all night in a venue the size of your bedroom with ~200 people in it). If you're into that sort of thing, don't wait - they sold out. D'oh.

Shit, good to know, thanks. Also fuck you for that lineup. Mine is decent (Theories, Black Breath, Mass Grave) but nowhere near Dropdead/Brutal Truth. When I saw that lineup I shit a brick then remembered I live 3000 miles away.

I'm fortunate by circumstance - MDF is this weekend, and I totally forgot about that.

Shame I'm never, ever, ever in town memorial day weekend - I'm actually traveling to a wedding this weekend and missing out on an important conference/meeting I usually go to.

Some bands I'm really dissapointed that I will be missing out on this year's bill, especially Electric Wizard.

To lessen that pain, I sure am happy to see Agalloch are touring and will be playing my city.

Try the All That's Heavy Store. Maybe you can do better there.

Man....I would love to go to see MDF. Also the Scion Festival in Tampa looks good.

I am going to see Church of Misery/Hail Hornet/ Gates of Slumber in San Francisco next month though.

Tragedy tonight. No clue on who the support is so I feel like I should check that out. hoping they have some copies of Darker Days Ahead available.

Also, sped up Immolation? I need to listen to this on break.

Love the song titles for the new Nile album (LOL!):

"At The Gate Of Sethu" track listing (North American/European digipack):

01. Enduring The Eternal Molestation Of Flame
02. The Fiends Who Come To Steal The Magick Of The Deceased
03. The Inevitable Degradation Of Flesh
04. When My Wrath Is Done
05. Slaves Of Xul
06. The Gods Who Light Up The Sky At The Gate Of Sethu
07. Natural Liberation Of Fear Through The Ritual Deception Of Death
08. Ethno-Musicological Cannibalisms
09. Tribunal Of The Dead
10. Supreme Humanism Of Megalomania
11. The Chaining Of The Iniquitous

Its all good though. I will be a first day buyer

It sounds like they took the names for a bunch of Cradle of Filth B-Sides.

Also, Tragedy was awesome. Most of the support was great too, two thrashing grind bands and one decent hardcore act.

Nasum was great. Still not impressed with Black Breath but Mass Graves tore it up and Theories is turning into one of my favorite local acts (HHIG cover? fuck YEA).

Also, sadly no posters at my show, merch was surprisingly limited in general but I did score a decent Nasum shirt.

Don't know about them live, but never having listened to Black Breath before their latest album, I'm surprised to hear that. One of the better albums I've heard this year.

For all intents and purposes I should love the album and the band but for some reason I just can't get interested. Granted, I felt the same way about Nasum until last night.

A buddy of mine turned me on to their first album. Black Sin (Spit on the Cross) is an awesome song to run to, if you're into that sort of thing.

Most of their stuff is good for running, but so are most crossover/thrash bands. I think it's the guitar tone that I don't like. Can't place exactly why but the sound just turns me off.

If anyone cares, here's the 6/3 setlist for Sleep:

Holy Mountain
Aquarian
Dragonaut
The Druid
And Sagan
Magnatar
From Beyond
Sonic Titan

And a whole lot of bits and pieces of Dopesmoker. Played for around 90-100 minutes straight. Loudest show I've seen, surpassing both Swans and Jucifer.

God, I wish I could have seen that show. Closing with Sonic Titan is epic.

Well, they technically didn't close with Sonic Titan. It's generally only a ~10 minute track but they played for well over 30 minutes. Probably melded more into improv and Dopesmoker by the end.

Well that still sounds pretty epic!

In other Matt Pike news, High On Fire's The Art of Self Defense is being reissued on July 31. It includes a few bonus tracks and a 48 page booklet. This is my favorite album by HoF so I'll definitely pick this up. I kinda like the crappy production of the original release though, it's really muddy.

Awesome set list! I wish they would do a real tour.
