Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony - Gen. Discussion & Info (Fall/1600 Pts)

The two combined will likely be about as long. The Lost and Damned story mode lasted me about 12 hours, and I'd imagine the Ballad of Gay Tony lasting about the same amount of time.

Personally I liked the gameplay portions of TLAD more than the bulk of GTAIV. Better mission variety and it jumps right into the thick of things instead of spending hours teaching the player how to punch and shoot.

This isn't a different pricing structure than what was seen with Liberty City Stories or Vice City Stories (each were released on the PS2 with a $20).

I personally like the more over the top style of the past games compared to GTIV, but it appears that kind of style is in Ballad of Gay Tony. Looking forward to it.
 
I decided it's better to just download the DLC as I got my points cards on the cheap. Plus having the extra music tracks while playing the main storyline is pure win.

Thats true, but i want to get the disc version because im sick of not being able to play DLC/Arcade games ive bought because i am not online, or for whatever reason. I brought my xbox to my sisters last week and i couldnt play TMNT arcade game that i fully purchased. Even though i was hooked online. Another time i couldnt play oblivion with the castle DLC because xbox live was down. I really hate that about DLC. Im just wondering if the disc version of TLAD will reconize my 100% save file from the DLC version.

Have you bychance had to replace your 360? You may not have transferred the software licenses to your new console. I did that when I got my new 360 and I can play my XBLA games offline just fine. Link:

Back on topic...this expansion looks really awesome. The trailer really made me turn my head (love that track!). It's nice that they're putting the two expansions on one disc and that it's standalone. Now I just have to finish GTA4! I could never get used to the way the cars handled.

Song in the trailer is Eric Prydz - Pjaano. Don't know which remix it is though.

I thought you could only transfer once a year? Hmmm... well my 360 looks like its going to get the E74 error, sometimes when i playing gears the colors go crazy for a round.
 
Probably when they update the marketplace thursday morning. Which should be approximately in 2 days, 10 hours, and 3 minutes. Or 5am ET/2am PT. At least thats when i believe the marketplace is updated. Usually 4am Central.
 
ahh im mad the Vice City FM station is only on the disc and not the DLC. that sux since i bought the LATD already so im def not buying the disc.
 
I'm so pumped about this..it's going to be an epic way to close out the GTA IV saga. I'm buying the disc for the extra music - I always manage to download at least 8 or so songs on the soundtrack. Even better that we are getting more electrochoc and vice city! :cool:

Aww really? What a jip... Although, cannot GTAIV owners listen to all the music from that game aswell.

I hate how this game has "gay" in the title btw, it totally screwed up the deals, because noone wants to market it by itself. There was deals on stand alone lost & damned DLC, what is so different this time... Guess I'll have to pay full price. BAAWWWWWWWWWW
 
im excited for this. i already bought and downloaded it now i just have to wait until my friend gives me back my copy of GTA4 which he hopefully does tonight after i get out of work.
 
I will pick this up just not yet, I didn't get lost and damned on release day either. It looks really good though, alot better than L&D.
 
I was an hour off, marketplace didnt update till 6am ET/3am PT. Anyway i started the download and went to bed. Woke up and its done, but i havent played it yet.

I read a comment on a GTA forum someone said that at the end of TBOGT, it tells you where the next GTA game is going to be, but i dont know if he was joking or not. He had a spoiler, and i didnt read it, because i dont want anything spoiled about this game LOL.

Yea..it came with a large poster of the girl that the 7th number referenced a few pages back - the bottle popper! :D

What a blast man..this game is over the top. Loving everything about it.

And there is now a new character who is more funny and entertaining to listen to than Brucie...
YUSUF!

It is going to be a challenge to get 100% score in these missions though..I thought I played a few of them pretty well only to get like 82%.
 
Yea I know the % is never around 90% to me but I see you really have to run through the missions which I think the first time it would be stupid to just rush it. It's nice they're using what they did with the DS version and allowing you to redo any mission you want after it has been completed, very cool.

Ive played about 7-8 missions and so far its okay. Im not really into it yet. I thought the games opening scene wasnt as epic feeling as GTA IV or TLAD. I feel like im lost already on whats going on in the story. But hopefully tomorrow when i play more ill open up to it more. Maybe take some time to do some side stuff. I dont want to going right through it like i did with TLAD.
 
I disagree with the post above... I have done only one mission and it already feels like this is what GTA IV SHOULD have been.

So much fun and the new tv episodes are hillarious.
 
im already loving it and i only played for an hour now and did 4 missions. i still havent watched tv or even tried to go to split sides to see if theres a new comedian. lots of stuff to do this will hold me over until mw2 drops for sure.

That's what I was thinking cause I will probably play this sparingly after MW2.

I enjoyed the start. I never played Lost and the Damned so I might play it after I finish this one.

yeah you really need to play L&D that was great! im actually thinking about doing some extra stuff in L&D after i finish this. im all linked up to the rockstar social club and it tracks all your progress so im really tempted to go back now i know what i need to do to up my overall %
 
TLAD was darker than the original story, it showed the subculture of biker gangs and had sick ass weapons, bikes and reintroduced gang wars. TBOGT is a bit more explosive to say the least. Plus Base Jumping! New weapons, new multiplayer modes, moar awesomeness.

Update: Ok this mission is really pissing me off:
When you need to take the NOOSE tank, the armored APC, I can not! for the life of me hit all the 4 cables with the sniper rifle and the first time I had one left and the second time I couldn't even hit the last two. I tried to fire and hit the farther ones so it tilts towards me but that didn't help. Anybody have any suggestions, this is starting to piss me off and I wish I had a GH3 would you like to skip this shit button lol.

I love how they integrated the stories so its funny to see Niko and the like. I'm laughing cause I'm 45% through it already.

You have to just focus all the way and shoot around it. It took me a minute to figure it out cause I kept hitting around it.

I went to the comedy club and it had closed down!

So then I went to the gay nightclub, did some shots and got drunk and started shooting. It was hilarious, all the gay stereotypes started screaming and running out into the street in their pink spandex.

Then I came home and played GTA.

The dancing at the gay club is hilarious, this game is so over the top its ridiculous.

Ive got 10 hours logged in and just hit 50%. I've done bout half of the gang wars and finished the fight club. And its worth going out of your way to get 100% - some of these random characters are crazy

Lol that was messed up, I was like wtf as civilians punched me and actually dragged me out of a car plus I can't believe she died from that height. Another funny thing was I took out the cops that were chasing me and then I tried to take off in a vehicle that a cop hid behind and with the help of that auto shottie I bent the car's axle making it underivable lol.

Alright well i have a lot to discuss, this will probably be spoiler heavy. I just beat the game, in 9 hours and 40 minutes. A few more missions than TLAD, which was good. But the story didnt seem that great. Half the time i was wondering why i was even doing missions for a couple people. But part of me felt like it was random missions thrown together. Maybe i didnt pay enough attention to the story. But it was just alright for me. I thought it would involve the clubs more, night life, and stuff.

Some of the missions were really just pointless. I know they had to link the story together but the missions like
following Packie in a heli, and trading the diamonds for gracie, those missions were like playing a cut scene.

There were only a few missions, and only a couple parts of the story that involved
his mom/friends. I thought his friends would play more of a key role in the story. Why did they even put his mom in the game? They really couldnt think of any other way to introduce the fight club? His friends are pretty funny though, i had a good laugh when i got weapons and he called me a bitch as he took off. No talk about if they were related to Elizabetha or Romans GF...even though they have the same last names.

The ending of the story was pretty good.
Finally got to kill bulgarian, and the bum eventually ending up with the diamonds was pretty funny. But even though you killed Bulgarian, wouldnt the mob come after you still? And how come i cant call Tony after you beat the game? I mean its not important, but why wouldnt he be on the list?

One character i didnt like at all was
Brucies brother. At first i actually though he was his dad. But the whole character just felt like Rockstar wanted another brucie character in the game, but didnt want to use Brucie. I thought maybe we would get more back story on Brucie as well in this game. But i really didnt like his brothers character at all. I would have left him out. He was one of the guys i was wondering why am i even doing missions for this guy? He owned one of the clubs tony gave up to him? If he did why?

WHAT THE fuck, in the mission "girls half price" i believe it was called.
Did Brucie actually go to kiss Luis? That part just left me feeling like WTF, why do that to Brucie? I dont even understand why he would do something like that. I mean yeah they are hinting he is gay, or maybe Bi? But why even do that, to me that ruined his character. I mean i dont care if any of the characters are gay but Brucie? You got to be kidding me.

There was a mission that tied in both TBOGT and TLAD, ....
where you see billy, but it never showed how billy ended up with a black eye.

The safehouse was really bland....
and you dont get any other safehouses in the game. At least give us a computer in the safehouse.

Please someone tell me i dont need to get 100% in ever mission to get the full 100% game complete!

Anyway, overall it was a good game. But it really didnt compare to TLAD and GTA IV main story.

Oh and there was no new comic in this story. :(

Enjoying Gay Tony thus far. I like it more than TLAD, but I really hate the damn chopper missions. For me at least, "Sexy Time" was the hardest mission near the beginning of a GTA ever. Still not as annoying as Flight School in San Andreas though lol.
 
Yea I'm starting to see that half or more of the missions you do you're flying a chopper. I'm not that thrilled in that variety but overall I have enjoyed the missions. I think the missions that piece the story together is great (and a treat to the fans), I'd rather play through that than watch a cutscene showing it in action. I find that I have to do over missions more so in this expansion because it really doesn't tell you what to do or its scripted in a certain way that most of the time trial and error is your solution. If I were to rate this dlc in 5 stars, I'd give it 4.
