The upcoming episode of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV looks to be a wild one.
GTA IV, which was released in April for the Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3, focused on former Eastern European soldier Niko Bellic and his escalating life of crime in the boroughs of Liberty City. This new episode, available Feb. 17 via download exclusively for those who own the Xbox 360 version (no price yet), stars Johnny Klebitz, a member of Liberty City biker gang The Lost.
"Johnny is a very different character than Niko, with a very different background," says Dan Houser, vice president of creative development for Rockstar Games. "I can't go into too much detail on the story, because we try not to give away too much plot before the game is released. But I can say that the story will show you a different side of Liberty City."
The episode, titled The Lost and Damned, requires players to have the full version of the Mature-rated GTA IV (ages 17 and older) and an Xbox Live membership to download. It's likely to carry an M rating, too. (Parents can use the Xbox 360's parental controls to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content.)

In the original game, Niko crossed paths with The Lost several times. This time, Niko has only a bit part, Houser says. "The story is not directly impacted by decisions you took in the main game," he says. But "tons of details and mysteries from the main story get explained, so it will add a lot of color to the main story."
Rockstar Games has been fine-tuning its explorable 3-D virtual worlds since launching its first "sandbox" game with Grand Theft Auto III in 2001.
The new game will let you download more sandbox time. "We feel like we've only scratched the surface in terms of the depth and detail in" GTA IV's mythical Liberty City, says Houser.
Previous games have used downloads to add "new stages, weapons and costumes," says GamePro Media features editor Dave Rudden, "but GTA IV's content will reportedly add hours of gameplay."
Rudden hopes the episode costs $15 or less, but Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter expects a $20 price and says Rockstar could sell 2 million to 3 million downloads. "I see episodic content as a natural progression of the quality of downloadable content."

Figured I'll start a new thread for this since the other one is huge and not sure if everyone is planning on getting this DLC, plus It will avoid confusion and spoilers as well.

I guess I have a goal to finish GTAIV by February...I need to get crakin'.

They'll most likely release it as a separate disc as well as DLC like Oblivion did with Shivering Isles...and then a few months after they'll probably re-release both in one package.
Nice, I expect this to be short but I hope there is gonna be more
Let's hope not for the 50 million Microsoft paid for this. I'm psyched.

Prime, thanks for the update.

This is awesome news. So basically, you play the same map, but as a different character with new missions? Sounds pretty cool to me! I hope they can incorporate in some of the San Andreas stuff into this one.
*sigh* now the wait offically begins.
... better to have a set date than none at all...

Awesome, can't wait to play an entire set of missions on motorcycles. They're so much fun to handle and not awkward to shoot from at all.

I always thought they said the scope of the DLC would be equivalent to Vice City. Maybe I was hearing user speculation, but I thought it was going to be bigger.

Either way, I'd love for them to announce they're making GTA IV: Vice City for Late '09. Oh well, I still need to finish the game as well.
The "analysts" are saying most likely $20.
eeeh....if its the same locations, huge meh on that price, but we'll see how bored of GEars i am by then.

Hopefully it's more than just Liberty City, if it is I'm definitely getting it. Also if the prices is right, I don't see myself paying $20 for just a simple minded side story.

just glad it's a new story... I know I'm very alone on this but I've always liked GTA storytelling.

also, expect the return of gangs. why? scroll down:

...so in terms of new ways to travel, expect to be able to travel in packs with your biker gang.

i cant wait personally. i was playing GTAIV about a month ago completing some side missions and still enjoyed it.

I screamed like a little girl when I first read the news on Xbox360Fanboy  I am glad now that we got a solid release date and some details. I am psyched and already marked the date on my calendar.

All I can say about this GTA 4 DLC pack is.

#1. It comes out the same day as Street Fighter 4 and Kill Zone 2so it will quickly be either ignored or forgotten

#2. It better Not be more than $10

#3. Not many people will even care about it considering the rate at which people are selling or trading in their GTA 4 copies I got $20 I was lucky

#4. No Zombies = Epic Fail

#5. it better have new weapons and vehicles and characters, not just a bunch of code that triggers existing models and environments to act out new scripted events.

#6. The fact that RockStar is releasing this right in between Street Fighter 4 and Kill Zone 2 makes me think that are setting it on purpose for failure. Like kets put this weak DLC inbetween a rock and hard place and see what happens.

#7. Resident Evil 5 launches about 3 weeks later. might as well put th emoney towards that

LAst point So I have to re-buy GTA 4 used for maybe $20 or $25 follars and they pay $10 or $15 for this DLC. Another $30 Bucks NO WAY!!!

Street Fighter 4 and RE 5 will keep me very happy.

i'm kinda intrigued. i was over all disappointed with GTAIV. I found San Andreas to be a great game. I love the over the top nature of rockstar games. I do enjoy the next gen graphics of gta iv and will wait for some reviews before jumping aboard. So far it sounds interesting. I'm glad they went with a new character. The part about presenting a new way to explore liberty city sounds cool. I'd pay $20 for it.

Looking at Rockstars willingness to turn their backs on what made the franchise great in favor of more "realism" I don't have high hopes for this DLC.

Looking at how the economy has trashed Rockstar was worth 16 Billion to EA, now they would be lucky to get 2 Billion looking at their stock prices.

stupid

So your CAG gimmick is you're basically a hater huh?
It comes out the same day as Street Fighter IV, so needless to say, I will not be caring.
I agree with you on that... and on an unrealated note:

IT'S JUST SLIGHTLY UNDER 9000!!!!

Do you really think Killzone 2, a PS3 exclusive, is really going to affect DLC on the Xbox 360? or that Street Fighter 4 is going to even make the top ten when NPD release their February numbers? The 360 tends to have 4 to 5 games in the top ten, month after month. I suspect GTA exclusive DLC to the 360 will do OK, regardless what else comes out.

I definitely think SF4 will be top 10.. it's fucking Street Fighter dude.. the biggest gaming demographic (20-30 year old males) all grew up playing SF.

I would disagree, this isn't a retail release and you'll be inundated with ads on XBL for it.
#2. It better Not be more than $10
Or what?!?! Expect a $15 or $20 price tag I'm guessing.
#3. Not many people will even care about it considering the rate at which people are selling or trading in their GTA 4 copies I got $20 I was lucky
GTA has a huge following, don't dismiss it because YOU aren't interested, I think many will either hold on to their copies or rebuy. For me, I've seen the value and replayability of the series and have yet to trade a copy (of any GTA) in.
#4. No Zombies = Epic Fail
What GTA has EVER had Zombies??? Yeah they did the Halloween bit, but that's it. What would make you expect zombies aside from early speculation?

Again, or what? Believe it or not, quite a few people enjoy the story in the GTA series (at least after 3) and that's enough to entice them to make the purchase.
#6. The fact that RockStar is releasing this right in between Street Fighter 4 and Kill Zone 2 makes me think that are setting it on purpose for failure. Like kets put this weak DLC inbetween a rock and hard place and see what happens.
As stated, Killzone is a PS3 exclusive ans SF4 may not hit as broad an audience as something like Gears or Halo would. I think they're safe with this date. That's like saying that Halo 4 will fail if it's released along side the next Tekken ... doubt it.
#7. Resident Evil 5 launches about 3 weeks later. might as well put th emoney towards that
Have at it, with all your "it'd better have"s I think you'd be better off passing this one up, that and (see next point)...
LAst point So I have to re-buy GTA 4 used for maybe $20 or $25 follars and they pay $10 or $15 for this DLC. Another $30 Bucks NO WAY!!!

Your mind was made up before posting that you weren't going to get the DLC and so you seemed to have felt the need to come in here and hate on it. Sorry clown, I think there's more people that are happy to see the DLC come out (and most likely will buy it) than there are that are willing to piss on it because it shares a date with Street Fighter 4.

Crimson, very nice retort.

Killzone 2 is a PS3 exclusive and considering 2/3 of the copies sold of GTA were for the 360, your point is moot.

Or wait, lemme guess IceCold, you "can and will" make Rockstar tailor the GTA DLC to your satisfaction, like those sucker Gamestop employees with the Movie Gallery thread.
Here's hoping I can find time to beat the game before the DLC hits.
Hurry man there's only 3 months left!

Eh, not too excited for this. GTA4 was amazing, I think I have it beat at 80 something percent, but I want a different map, or at least an addition instead of some side story...

I Miss Sand Andreas rolling in a FBI SUV with 4 of my fellow gang members armed with submachine guns we were rolling death

Lost and Damned might be fun if we can posse up with a gang of AI bikers who are loyal to us. OR any other type of gang.

You can already roll with your homies in GTA4 if you become good enough friends with Dwayne. You just call him up and a bunch of people will show up in a black suv.
Uh...

what's the point of selling codes that you have to pay tax on?
But it comes with a poster!

Rockstar’s new DLC for their hit game Grand Theft Auto IV will expand everywhere, adding new content in every form, along with a new character; a biker named Johnny. The game is based on biker-style content, but does not fail to include new content in other aspects. New vehicles will include; the Cheetah, the fast, 1980’s stlye sports car. It’ll keep it’s old style, but will be graphically beautiful. Besides that, 2 new bikes will be included. One bike called the Marauder, a single head-lighted chopper with great speed, driven by Johnny and his closest friends from his gang, the Lost. Another is an unamed bike, similar to the NRG-900, but with more control at fast speeds and better stability around corners. Rockstar also stated the tank would not return this episode, but hinted in would come in a future package. New weapons will include a handy pocket-knife, which you will start with at the beginning of the episode, car bombs, as a hand weapon instead of pick-up from a friend, 2 more sub-machine guns, and a new pistol. Gameplay aspects will be greatly improved, as you will now be able to use more weapons in vehicles. Passengers will be able to use assault rifles, and bikers can melee, either while riding or driving. There will be a total of 30 missions, with one decision near the end, which will determine the final scenes of the game. Two radio station will make it into the DLC, one being a blues station called Suave Jam 104.3, and a hair metal station similar to V-Rock from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, containing tracks such as the previously announced Crazy Train from Ozzy Osbourne, and Megadeth. Multiplayer will be improved with 3 additional modes, one of which is a 2-4 player game called Drug Bust. The other 2 games will be a Destruction Derby-esque game with an arena created especially for the mode. However, the arena will be explorable in single player also. Another mode was mentioned, but given little detail about. Rockstar only stated “It will provide more freedom than free mode.”
