Grand Theft Auto V Announced! Back to California!

I hope its a new place not a old one. Hell maybe even a different country ! We already did the west coast east coast and Florida areas in USA.

Texas? lol A different country isn't a bad idea. maybe it will be Mexico or somewhere in the Carribean. I have a feeling that Rockstar will give us a real suprise with this. A 2012 release would be super cool.

Might wanna add "coming 11/2" to the end of the title.

I remember there was speculation that they would be going back to California for this one due to some voice actor hiring descriptions, but who knows? Guess we'll find out soon though. Personally I can't friggin wait, I'm not really holding my breath for a 2012 release though, Rockstar seems to be giving about a year between each of their games and with Max Payne coming out that year it just doesn't seem likely.

Hmmm, going off of the money look to the V/Five, I would say maybe Washington DC or maybe NYC (for Wall Street).

But can't say I'm excited. I've been burned by the last few GTA's with bad controls, terrible characters, and boring missions. I am not thrilled at the idea of having more escort missions...blah.

From Joystiq:
Citing anonymous sources "familiar with the game," Kotaku reports that Grand Theft Auto Vwill take place in a Rockstarified version of Los Angeles, one of the cities mocked up in an earlier installment in the franchise, San Andreas. We suppose the locale makes sense -- wouldn't adapting it be as easy as taking all their assets from L.A. Noire, then applying 75 years of wear, tear and technological progress to the structures therein?

The source also claims that more than one character will be playable during Five's campaign, which similarly makes sense, considering the extra protagonists which appeared in Grand Theft Auto IV's expansions. We've contacted Rockstar, and are encasing ourselves in suspended animation for the next week or so, shortening the amount of time between us and the game's debut trailer on November 2.

Sounds like another San Andreas like GTA. We will see what happens next wednesday.

Somebody on Reddit posted a pic of where the "V" comes form... it's from an old five dollar bill, pre-1900s.

I'm guessing a GTA/RDR cross over game, where we find out that John Marston is the ancestor of CJ, Niko, Tommy, etc.

I eventually got used to the controls in IV/Episodes, but like you I was bored by most of the characters in the main game and the episodes.

Only characters I kinda got a kick out of were Brucie, Roman, Yusuf and Tony. The rest of em were forgettable.

A couple things I'd love to see in the new game: flyable planes(again), destructible enviros(not just pre-planned buildings you HAVE to take out for a mission, but the whole enviro like Mercenaries/Mercenaries 2) and the ability to record in game video ala Just Cause 2.

Otherwise I have to say that I may actually give the next GTA a lil time to price drop before picking it up if it's as ho hum as the last couple installments. Only fun parts to me in the last couple had to be trying to free climb buildings by running/jumping/climbing along ledges. The other fun part was messing with the glitches in both single player AND multiplayer.
i hope the lead is either a chick or of asian heritage. and i hope its set in tokyo or china or even koreA.
I wouldn't get gta 5 but if it is based in Korea, I'm getting it.

I hope it's another San Andreas and I hope I get to interact with some of the characters from SA! I also hope they make it more like RDR.

Dammit GTA really needs to come to DC. Come on, how many blowhard politicians have to attack the game before Rockstar strikes back?

Nah, that's just a side-quest activated by stealing a certain DeLorean...
GTA IV killed the series, but RDR proves that the formula still works.
I wouldn't go that far, but holy hell did it feel long and not as fun as the other GTA's.

The driving! Ugh!

Or it could mean 'V'egas. If they're seriously just going to recycle the LA Noire shit for another LA game, then fuck'em. Not interested.

I think somewhere along the mexican border in either Texas or New Mexico would be pretty sweet. That way you could have business in both the states and Mexico. Im thinking something like Breaking Bad meets GTA.

At first I was always spinning out my cars with the new controls. But eventually I learned how to control the cars like I had been able to last gen.

Either way, I think they took the series a bit too 'serious' this gen thus far. I preferred the more over the top type of shit like Saint's Row/Saint's Row 2 has or at the very least some side missions that once completed gave you a good perk(like being fireproof after completing the firefighting missions or getting a health/armor boost for doing the paramedic missions).

There not talking about the controls just so you know. There talking about the ridiculous amount of driving during missions as well as between missions.

Personally I was hoping for another Vice City as that is still my favorite GTA game to date. Though I know that's not going to happen with a logo like that. Unless there going for a Scarface kind of money style but I highly doubt it. I'm sure it's another San Andreas in the works as most are speculating.

Actually I liked driving around Liberty City. It's a huge city with a lot of stuff going on while you're driving around. Plus the characters you frequently were driving/riding along with would have lengthy conversations during the drives. So that was a nice little touch imo.

I would probably spend an hour or two between missions in GTA IV/Episodes just driving/flying around the city, either doing rampages/standoffs against the cops or just plain old causing havoc.

That's the real fun part of the GTA titles to me, in that you can take an hour(or nine) and just go off and do something different in the game. You're not tied down to the storyline and on a time limit to do it.

Wow. Do a search for 'Grand Theft Auto V trailer leaked early' on YouTube and you get a LOT of interesting looking videos, including one that shows apparently London(with REAL product names on the buildings/marquees/billboards) with the double decker bus they're known for showing prominently in the video.

If these are fakes, then damn, someone should definitely get into game dev/production cuz they look pretty convincing.

For example, like this one:
Is it just me, or does anyone else want to see a GTA game set in London...
I don't want another Gangs of London.

Looks like that one game that came out a while back that was set in the 50s. I played the demo but forget the name. That video is fake, not even close to the quality of a rockstar GTA trailer. And if it turned out to be real i would be very disappointed. LOL. I cant wait for the trailer.

I was thinking about GTA and thought, what if its 2 discs, 2 main characters. One in Vice City, one in Los Santos, and somehow they end up meeting in the end, maybe killing one or the other. Maybe thats asking for too much, like 2 games in one LOL.

You mean L.A. Noire? Or Mafia II? I know there were a couple games set in the 40's or 50's recently.

Personally I'd like a game set a in a different era, like a San Andreas set in the 50's. Imagine working for one of the casinos in Las Venturas in that era with the mob running them?;)

Either that or have it be somewhere other than Vice City/San Andreas/Los Santos/etc.

agreed id rather the next gta either be in japan, korea or china. american big cities have been done to death in gta. if they set it in an asian contry maybe theyd put in the extra work to make hand to hand combat alot better as well as being able to see some of the amazing settings and places in those countries.

since true crime honk kong isnt happening itd be nice for someone to take up the cause. but more than anything they need to overhaul everything gta4 mechanics suck and are slow and clunky. it was great when it first came out but now it doesnt cut it compared to alot of stuff thats out there now.

Actually, it is happening but with a different publisher. Square Enix bought it from Activision but they didn't buy the naming rights so the name will be different.

On topic: I can't wait to play my first GTA game whenever this comes out. I have played games like true crime new york and they have been pretty fun so I will probably like gta5 as well.

That is Mafia 2...
Personally I'd love another game set in Vice City. They could do so much more with it now that your character can swim :D
I used to have fun trying to hijack boats in Vice City by blocking them with a speedboat or whatever and then trying to jump from one to the other.:) Nerve wracking on that game though, since one false move and your guy would be drowned.:whistle2:#

I'm hoping for more opportunities to do insane stunts and getting weapon pickups for finding the 100 packages. I think I had around 95 or so, but I could never find the last 5.

Then again, I also spent 6-7 hours playing Brown Thunder(vigilante missions done in the attack chopper;)) and I racked up over $160 million in in-game cash(that I couldn't spend on anything:whistle2:#). Best place to do those missions was at the airport. The criminals would keep respawning on the tarmac right below you and you would just have to blow up their vehicles to complete each level.

I loved III and VC, spent countless hours trying all sorts of ridiculous stuff. I was really excited for SA but felt let down, and the same thing happened with IV. I tried to pick up IV and finish it last year, but it just felt rather outdated compared to all of the newer generation games. So I can't say I'm excited for V unless they redefine GTA as a whole.

I used to always turn on the cheats in GTA III, like being able to click the right stick to make the cars 'jump'. I would spend a ton of time jumping the cars up onto buildings where they weren't normally supposed to go.

While doing that I found the one glitch on the one lower roof of the hospital, where if you wedged a car into the wall at an angle it'd start to glitch through the wall and into a 'blue hell'.

If you jumped out at the right moment you were standing up on top of the tunnel between islands and if you looked up while in this underworld, the ground would be the sky and devoid of any npc's/vehicles.

I loved playing SA. I would get some cheats going and the next thing you knew it was one s.o.b outside his home, shooting tanks choppers, and anything that crawled. I remember my brother walking in the room once and just staring at the screen for 5 minutes with his eyes wide open as I was surviving hell and then some.

I was the same way in Vice City. I would get a six star wanted level and just see how long I could survive while being hounded by a ton of military troops with assault rifles and TANKS.

The SWAT teams in the attack choppers in GTA IV/Episodes are pretty nasty to deal with if you're not properly equipped and sometimes even if you shoot down their choppers you'll see them swim outta the wreckage and start firing on you from the ground.
