Greatest American...Your Pick(We Have A Winner)
I still think George Washington Carver is the greatest American:

Agricultural chemist, Carver discovered three hundred uses for peanuts and hundreds more uses for soybeans, pecans and sweet potatoes. Among the listed items that he suggested to southern farmers to help them economically were his recipes and improvements to/for: adhesives, axle grease, bleach, buttermilk, chili sauce, fuel briquettes, ink, instant coffee, linoleum, mayonnaise, meat tenderizer, metal polish, paper, plastic, pavement, shaving cream, shoe polish, synthetic rubber, talcum powder and wood stain. Only three patents were every issued to Carver.

Can you believe that shit? Mofo creates all the shit we use today and he only got 3 whole patents out of his thousands of practical inventions.
He was awesome, but I think he belongs in the "greatest inventor" race. He'd have plenty of competition too, between Edison (where do I start) and Jack Kilby (inventor of the microchip, which led to the computer/information revolution, I wouldn't be talking to you like this without the microchip)

Someone in this thread (i think) said something like: The result of this won't say anything more about the person, but will say everything about the voters.

And in this case, they were right.

Wow (in a bad way).

Mr. America, brother!
Now you can't get more American than that!
Dusting off this sucker...because Ronald Reagan won...WTF America, what were you thinking
I agree. WTF is wrong with this country.

Ignore it. People who should be on the list and near winner, some arent even on it. Overall people most people can agree on as equally great is usually Abe Lincoln. There are many many others but he usually is the one people settle on.

They should have at least broke it up by centuries. I don't have anything else constructive to say about that... that... television program.

A strong case can be made for Washington. After all, he froze his ass on Mt. Vernon only to come up with a come-from-behind victory over the British. I think the argument is basically Lincoln vs. Washington for the Greatest American. Ronald Reagan should not be in the mix.

Men (and women) Like borlaug didn't even make the nominating list for that stupid show, yet Barbara Bush, Madonna, Ellen Degeneres, Brett Favre etc. all do? God help us all.

hey dont talk bad about my boy Brett...im not saying he should be one of the greatest americans but dont be bad mouthing one of the greatest QBs of all time.

Reagan? Um, ok.... Then that means that the next in line is Arnold...

Washed up actor takes a high governmental seat, makes the people of the land believe that they're happy and content with his acting...but really is making the rich people rich and the poor people poorer, buy servicing only 3% of the people of the land of which he's governing.

Awesome. Welcome to America...come for the freedom, stay for the consumerism.
Hey...I know you love being a depressive little anti-american shit, but even if you hate every american ever born, theres always one who willl be the greatest patriot, because ill be damned if martin sheen is a bigger patriot than John Wayne, or Richard nixon than Roosevelt...so kiss my ass :)
I can't believe I wasted my time to read this response. Oh well. Kind of old too, I probably should have just ignored it completely, but I couldn't help myself :)

WTF!? Ronald Reagan... Ronald Mcdonald might as well have won. The only reason he won was because he's in recent memory cause he died. If he was still alive and out of the news he wouldn't have come even close to winning.

I dunno. We look back and see Lincoln as a great president because he had to cope with the civil war and he gave the emancipation proclamation. However, given the fact that the emancipation proclamation had no legal effect it was little more than a ceremonial gesture.

Let's not forget what he did do that had legal bearing and that was his suspension of the writ of habeas corpus. This meant he could effectively imprison whoever he wanted without being required to give them a trial. I know it was an extreme time but this was a very extreme measure that thankfully did not have lasting effects.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he was a bad president but by ignoring principles that our constitution (hell, it was a major point/reasoning in the declaration of independence too) that doesn't make him that great of an american in my opinion.
