I was in GS yesterday but didn't see this sign anywhere. Is it a nationwide deal?
Yes, and it starts today hence why you didn't see any signs for it yesterday.

Thanks for the clarification. :) I'm probably going to do it later this week, just need to decide whether I've got two games worth trading for $40 (I've got Heatseeker, so it's a matter of choosing between a few others).
AAGH! This is what everyone is ranting about. Those games are basically new. Even if you only paid $20 each for them (which is unlikely), why not turn a profit for cash that you can spend anywhere and not just at gamestop.

Here, I did the work for you:
http://product.half.ebay.com/Mario-Sonic-at-the-Olympic-Games_W0QQprZ59366726QQtgZinfo - lowest price is $41
http://product.half.ebay.com/Rayman-Raving-Rabbids-2_W0QQtgZinfoQQprZ60534489 - lowest price is $39.98

Now all you have to do is click the "Sell your stuff" link on each page, list your games for $1 less than the lowest price, and wait a few days.
While I agree with your point, quoting "for sale" prices means absolute squat to me. There's probably someone selling a bowl of cereal on eBay for $15, but that doesn't mean if you list yours for $14 someone will buy it in a few days.

Showing the price of completed auctions/buy-it-nows on eBay would be far more convincing (a quick scan shows $35 for Mario Sonic at the Olympics being a typical sale price).

Call me lazy but I'd rather spend $10 buying a game on sale and then trading in a random old game I have in one stop at a local store INSTEAD of taking the time and money to list both games on ebay, never guarantee a going price that other auctions have had no matter how good, shipping, waiting, etc etc.

I do buy and sell on ebay but in this instance it's just easier to go with GS no matter how much they rip us off.

I just called both Gamestops near me and neither of them had a clue about this. They checked all their e-mails and promotions. So I dunno if it's YMMV or they just haven't gotten word yet.

I'm not too worried because Big Brain and Heatseeker will get me 26 in credit + 20% bonus for reserving SSBB + $10 for trade in 2 Wii games + 10% for Edge + 10% coupon = about $10 anyway. And he said that whole formula would work so it sounds good to me.

Just a heads up to check with your GS first before you run out there.

EDIT

But the store on the other end of town said they were doing it and all GS should be too, so my GS must be morons - and he did say Edge card stacks with it.

Are people going to stop bitching about this deal, now? Half of this thread consists of complaining. Yes, this is a bad deal, for the most part. We know this already. We don't need more confirmation of that.

This is certainly not a bad deal, though, if you happen to have two of the cheaper games on the list.

Uh, isn't $35 considerably more than the $20 you'd get from GS? Like 75% more?
And on half.com, when you go to list your item, you get to see the last sold price and average sold price for each game. So average sale price of $34 for Rayman and $38 for Mario and Sonic. $72.00 total, 15% half.com commission = $61.20 + Shipping reimbursement of $5.56 - actual shipping costs $4 = $62.76.

You sound like you've already made up your mind, but the cheapass in me feels sad to see constant loss associated with game purchases. Even if you only paid $30 each for those two games two months ago, it seems smarter to at least break even on them, get Smash Bros and have $10 cash in your pocket at the end of the day. Combatcraig's point for lower value games is dead-on, but this makes me cry:

"I do buy and sell on ebay but in this instance it's just easier to go with GS no matter how much they rip us off. "

I don't believe in getting ripped off.

Bigdaddybruce, yes, we are all aware there are games that can make this deal work to your advantage. However, the people who share my opinion about the higher value games aren't going to stop complaining until people stop offering them to Gamestop for a fraction of their value. Is there a shortage of digital real estate that we can't take the space to try to stop what we feel is a cheapass evil?

I guess I should have clarified. I too don't believe in getting ripped off. When I said that in my previous post I was referring to everyone who has said GS is a rip off. I know their trade in values are insane - they are a PAWN SHOP. I hold no illusions that GS is a CAG's dream. But to avoid the hassle of ebay I went with GS to reserve Brawl. In the end it's going to cost me $25 ($10 for Heatseeker, $5 reservation, $10 balance).

My GS wasn't doing the deal in this thread, but I didn't feel like driving across town to the GS that was because the workers there are tools. So I spent the extra $5 it's going to cost me in gas to get to the other GS and put it towards my reservation at the other store.

In my CAG view a $50 game for $25 + an old game I don't play is cheap enough for me!

You didn't get ripped off at all - you used this deal to your advantage and you obviously understand time cost as well.

Since you mentioned pawn shops (to get even farther off-topic), it's odd that I don't see them mentioned more on CAG. They're a terrible place to sell your games, but a fantastic place to buy them. I don't even have a 360 or PS3, but whenever I'm by the local pawn shop I stock up on $10 games (they sticker them at $14.99 but cash talks at a pawn shop) for trading fodder.

Like I said, it is a deal if you are trading in games you got for very cheap. Of course trading in Mario Galaxy and Fire Emblem would not be wise, but if you're like me and have two games on that list that you got for under $20 it would be a very good deal.

But can someone clarify when this promotion will end?

Did this deal at lunch today with Heatseeker and Raymond Raving Rabbids. It stacked with the Edge to give a total of $42.00 towards SSBB. Great deal if you use older titles like these. Not so great if you're using newer/more popular ones on the list.

Thanks OP!

Everybody Loves Raymond Raving Rabbids.
It seems like it should be easy to get that one for less than $20, making it a good one for this promotion. I'm going to try to round up some Heatseekers sometime this week. I think I'm the only person who actually liked that game - I'm keeping my copy because I actually still play it and enjoy it.

Did the same here. Stupid they charge you the tax of the fully priced merchandise when its suppost to be $9.99 but i'm not gonna complain. SSBB is mine, when its out.

i have made up my mind, say bye bye to excite truck and resident evil 4. because twilight princess should be definately worth while as it is now the equivlent of lumines, so if they release a patched version, mine will be unpatched
Man, Heat Seeker is back up to 15 in my area :/
Too bad they wouldn't take two heat seekers, or I would do this.
I just called my Gamestop. They told me that they would take 2 copies of Heatseeker, so w/e. Good deal for me then, provided my CC still has copies of Heatseeker.

Do your Circuit City stores still have plenty of copies of Heatseeker?

Anyone know of Circuit City coupons?

Awesome. I'll go find a copy of Heatseeker at Target or CC this weekend and trade in Wario Ware: Smooth Moves along with it. Nice deal if I can find Heatseeker. ^.^

I wonder if we are going to get gutted SSBB, I traded some stuff when they had the 30 % extra trade in or what ever it was, I want a new sealed copy.

gonna check my local CC tonight for Heatseeker. if they have it i'll go with 2 copies of that, and even at $15 each i save about 7 bucks(considering tax on the heatseeker copies). seems like a decent deal. EB is also about 200 feet from my front door so it'll be convenient to pick it up there when it releases.

it's a shame that monkey ball isnt on the list - i got it free(gift from my ex-gf), and although i like the game, it is way way way too frustrating for me to play for any length of time.

If you just buy the game outright with the endless 10% off coupon, you save $5 and don't have to waste gas or time and risk CC not even having Heatseeker. Seems smarter and you'll probably end up using $2 in gas/time anyway to try the Heatseeker way.
The only Wii game I have that I'd consider trading in is Super Paper Mario. I honestly can't see myself ever playing that again, while my other 5 games are worth playing.

I'm sticking with the Circuit City deal.
Same here.

I traded in wario ware and Big Brain, both of which I've not played in months... Cost me like 10.88 total or something... Now the week of waiting.

Generally I don't like gamestop, but being short on both time and cash, I decided to go with them this time.

Last time, they offered me 18 dollars for xbox 360 Assassin's Creed and I laughed. Sold it on half.com for 35.

I will trade any of you for your games instead of GameStop, and I will not charge you the $9.99. I will ship out March 10 in the morning through first class parcel post.

PM me if interested. I suggest buying the game at a retailer with a 30 day return policy (KEEP THE RECEIPT) and once the copy I ship you comes in return it with the receipt you have. You save $9.99 (minus the shipping for send me the games).

You are a wise person. I can't believe more CAGs don't do this - I wish you luck! I believe djkunai is actually performing a public service this way.
