Saw this on another message board, apparently some people got an e-mail detailing that offer. Trade in a DSi XL or 5 games worth at least $8 credit and you'll get $125 towards your pre-order of a 3DS. Anyone care to confirm?

EDIT: It's been confirmed for Gamestop Canada

EDITEDIT: A new deal for US residents starting Jan. 24, trade in a DSi XL for $100, a DSi for $75 or a DSlite for $50 towards a pre-order of a 3DS. Not nearly as good but something.
hmmm.....any documented proof on the US deal?
There are several websites announcing it and someone posted the same deal earlier in the thread. I don't have time to look for an official source but If anything you only have to wait until Monday to confirm/deconfirm. Several people have said they've received confirmation on the deal after calling their local Gamestop.

Are people really considering this?

$100 for an XL is shitty

$100 isn't hard to save up in the two months before this thing comes out
This is tough... Trade in my lite for 50 bucks, but really for 30 since I'd be paying tax I'd otherwise not have to pay through amazon... or go through amazon... hmmm, amazon is sounding better...
My issue exactly, i may have to go cancel my GS preorder if these are the best promotions they have.

Maybe. But $300 or so can be hard to save up. Therefore $200 would be easier and so on. The fact that 3DS is backwards compatible means you aren't giving much up except a second system to play the same games on.

Really I'm just getting tired of everyone telling everyone else what a good deal is. Let them decide for themselves. Most people are intelligent enough to know they can get more money skipping Gamestop as the middle man. They simply don't want to put forth the effort in selling things themselves.
In my area several people were mugged doing video game deals on craigslist, there are risks involved that aren't worth another $25 or so to some people.

Doesn't seem too bad in my opinion. Ebay completed listings run from about 120-140 for the standard models (which I think is pretty generous since nearly all of the listings I'm seeing also include games and/or other extras), so if we say you sell one for $130 shipped and it costs about $5 for postage, you're only making about $12 or so more compared to the GS deal. That's not a very outstanding difference, especially when you consider the effort that goes into ebaying as compared to trading in.

if you can gather up enough trade credit you wouldnt have to pay tax. store credit from trades should be tax free

Depends upon the state. Not all states work that way.

Just a quick FYI for those who care. Amazon has the same trade-in values for the DSI and DSIXL. It may be worth looking at them to avoid tax.

Does anyone know if edge/power up stacks with the dsi promotion? That may sway me one way or the other. I have two hardly touched DSis one black one blue from launch that would be nice to trade in.

Stinks it's Canada only. I was really considering buying one for 175+ 5 games. Oh well no 3ds for me.
