First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. Second post has the values for games/hardware for Microsoft devices. Third post has the values for games/hardware for Nintendo consoles and the fourth post has the values for Nintendo handhelds. Fifth post has the values for games/hardware for Sony consoles and the sixth post has the values for Sony handhelds.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.


What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2) *Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.
No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

That depends on what you have. Many Gamecube games fetch a good price on Amazon. That said, do you have Eternal Darkness or Luigi's Mansion? Cuz I'd totally buy em off of ya!

I have two controllers that I would like to trade in to get some credit for a new, but the left sticks for both are kind of beat up.

I tried trading one in last night and got rejected because both thumbsticks each have a tiny piece of the rubber missing. I'm going to try another gamestop today and see what they say.

Someone probably already asked this: If you use the birthday coupon on a :ds: game when you're buying three same-priced games, will the game to which it applies become the free game (because of the B2G1 promo for :ds:/:wii: games), thereby wasting the coupon?

For example, if I bought three $29.99 used :ds: games, would it take 20% off one of them and then make that game the free game since it would then be the cheapest of the games? What if the most expensive game was $34.99? Would it still become the free game since taking 20% off would place it below the $29.99 games' prices?

From what I recall, the game, after the 20% deduction still needs to be more expensive than the cheapest game of the 3; if the 20% makes the game the cheapest game of the 3, it will automatically become free, making the 20% moot. Just make sure that the game that you want to apply the 20% is at a minimum, 21% more than the cheapest game before deduction.

I had to read it a couple times but it makes sense to me. I was wondering if the 20% would automatically apply to the free one or not.

So if I bought a $39.99 used :ds: game along with two $29.99 used :ds: games, the 20% off coupon would bring the former's price down to $31.99, then to $28.79, still higher than the $26.99 price of the other two games (reflecting 10% PUR discount), and thus the discounted title wouldn't become free.

I don't think that's it. You'd have to buy two $39.99 games and one $29.99. One of the $39.99 would get marked down to $31.99 making it still higher than the "free" game at $29.99.

It's my understanding that it won't take the 20% off the highest price game, that's the potential difference. If it does, that's great. I personally can't vouch for what it does, just reading Anarchy's reply leads me to believe it would apply to one of the $29.99 games automatically.

Same for me. Both the % coupons and the $ off coupons always applied to the highest priced item.

I know at least for the $ off coupon for me, I combined it with a B2G1F and it applied to my highest game (I had 3 that were different priced) and it was still higher than my lowest (which still stayed as the free one).

The %off one wasn't during a B2G1F but I did get 2 items and it discounted the higher one.

I will double check and ask the manager at my Gamestop tomorrow when I go pick up Defiance.

I did that in the past with the wii B2G1 free deal and the most expensive game was discounted (Bday coupon). Depending how high the price was in relation to other like priced games, it (the game with the coupon applied) either became the free game if the price after discount dipped below other like priced games. Otherwise one of the pairs of the like priced or least expensive game became the free game while you ended up paying for the discounted game (with Bday coupon) if it cost more than the other 2 games after discount.
 
Just got back from GameStop and I'm glad legend of Zelda on 3ds is still holding up strong at $25

I picked up a used copy BioShock Infinite for .42cents after trading in Zelda. It was a good day.

LOL! I had a bunch of Nunchuks [Wii] that were chewed from when my brother was little. Some of the buttons didn't work well either. I thought of trading it in and buying some new ones.

Got $40 after buying MGRR. For those wondering, the 20% BDay coup applied first on the $54.99 to take $11 off. Then the PUR 10% came off the discounted price. Tax was applied after all discounts. Only had to spend $2 out of pocket.

Lady at cashier didn't check the recent cashing because I was talking to her the whole time. Haha So that's what I suggest the next time you guys try to flip. Worked for me like a charm.

Well, the GS employee pulled a fast one on me today..

Traded in Prototype 2, MP3, and RDR GOTY for PS3 today. Was expecting $38 credit after the $10 promo, but the guy said "looks like you'll be getting $30 back". I asked him if the $10 promo was still active and he said he thought that was $30 AFTER promo. He looks at his screen then says "looks like you're actually getting $35 back! But I tell ya what, I'm gonna hook you up today man. If you preorder any game, you get a bonus $5 TIV."

I browsed the list and just said Last of Us, so he entered that and scanned a stickers barcode on the counter.

Got my receipt and it showed I got $42 credit for trading in my games after he scanned a used copy of madden 08 for $0.99, and then deducted $5 for the preorder.

Was this his way of just getting me to preorder, but still giving me as much credit as possible by me "buying" madden?

Idk why he didn't just give me the $38 I was expecting. Either way, I'll probably just get them to put that $5 deposit back to my credit once they have a $40 sale on Bioshock infinite..

Sounds like it. The used Madden got you an extra 50% + 10% for Power Up so that's the original $30 + 60%, which is $48. Subtract $5 for the preorder and then $1 for Madden and you get your $42.

That was pretty quick thinking on his part.

That's pretty scummy and I'm curious if it's illegal. Did you even get the madden game that he scanned in and claimed that you purchased?

One of my local stores had stacks of $0.02 PS2 games on the counter and offered them up for the 50% bonus for anyone who was trading in games. No "extra" pressure for pre-orders beyond the norm. I chose to keep my ESPN NFL 2K5 with T.O. on the cover.

yup pulled a fast one on u. but in a way u got more cred than u expected, he just took advtg of the situation. but yea thats shady...he should have offered the fifty percent with purchase of used game. just write a detailed acct on the survey of what he did. sheet if nethin call corporate nd say u were tricked, maybe ull get somethin out of it.

Got Borderlands 2 to play with my buddies. I was curious of my TIVs since they were higher than those reported here. After B2, I still had $70 in GS credit, so I guess I'll trade in my other DS pokemon games, considering the wealth of emulators out there. Don't know if I should get a Vita or wait to put my credit on PS4 reservation? Decisions, decisions...
