FAQ
Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What states charge sales tax on purchases made with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Arkansas, California, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Wisconsin, Virginia,

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and cut the trade-in value in half. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has PSP/DS values.

As of Saturday(12/26) for the 360
MK vs DCU Kollektor's edition - 2.75
Battlefield:Bad Company - 6
Turok - 1.75
Dead space - 6
Saint's Row - 2.25

I went to gamestop yesterday to trade LoZ Spirit Tracks towards FFXIII; the guy wouldnt let me because "it wasn't in the system".So he tells me to come back tomorrow. I go in today and a different guy says the deal expired; but I showed him the deal expires at the end of today so he had to manually override it. Oh well; at least it went through. The base was 20 then after edge/promo; the game was 32.00.

So I preordered a Bioshock 2 today, and accidentally trashed the receipt at work after ripping it up. Don't ask me why exactly. I wasn't thinking.

I was planning on transferring the order to something else, and I just forgot about it. What are my options? Can I go into GS and ask for another receipt? If I was friends with a guy behind the counter, could he pull it up through the computer?

You don't need the receipt iirc, it should just be in the computer, they'll probably just ask for your phone number and then maybe ID

Playstation 2-
god of war : 2.00
god of war 2 : 4.00
guilty gear x : .70
guilty gear x2 : .95

PSP-
dissidia final fantasy : 15.00

Does anyone have a recent TIV for a 360? Mine is looking to be on its last leg and there is the $20 bonus trade-in on consoles.

Thanks. I'm transfer a bunch of preorders for the dude anyway, and he knows that, so I'll see if he can do me the solid.

With the 25% boost to TIV if you trade in towards Darksiders or Red Dead Redemtion, would it be possible to switch the credit to a different game?
I switch my preorders all the time, but never after I've used one of those promotions.

Thats what I was doing today. I even asked the guy straight up, "Can I change the preorder if I don't end up wanting it?" and his exact words were "Yup." with a cool little nod.

So yes. :)

Awesome, I know I'm gonna flip L4D2 and some other games tomorrow or today, depending on whether you say tomorrow if you haven't slept yet.
EDIT: Uh... what if it's a large amount like $120 and you switch it all from the 2 or 3 that the deal is on to completely different games?
Would they get pissed?

Go in, do the trades towards one of the games and ask to just put the 5 dollars on the games. You'll get the bonus, and then you can take the rest on credit.

Go back in a few days later and switch or cancel the preorders.

Did I ask you to tell me the TIV or price I could get elsewhere? Did I say "Hey guys, how much can I get for Ico besides GameStop?" I don't remember doing so. People like you are the reason people are afraid to post in this thread. Its for TRADE IN VALUES. Leave your judgement and bullshit at the door.

I know what Ico is worth. Do I care about doing anything to get that? No. All I know is I had a PS2 game and a broken BC PS3 and I wanted to get rid of all of my PS2 games. I paid $18 bucks for it, and with bonus, I got back more than what I paid for it ($23 I think), so I made out on top. If I wanted to sell it on eBay, I would have done that. Did I want to? Apparently not.

I meant no offence, I was just letting people who might not know the real value of that game what it was worth, so calm down.

Wow, someone hasn't gotten any lately. Seriously though, no point in responding to those people and getting all riled up. The way I see it you may have even got as much as $24 (I know you said $23) after bonus if you did the 50% preorder thing and had an edge card. While most of us would not trade that game for even $24, it is his choice to go with trade credit vs the aprx $35 cash he might have made after fees on ebay/half. That said, It is not like GS would be making a killing on that game if people on both end of the transaction used promo offers. (they might even lose money) GS sells the game for only $30 and I saw one at one of my local stores during the B2G1 sale that I could have bought for as little as $18 with edge card if I would have found 2 other $30 games that I would want to pair it up with. Go ahead, flame me for not jumping on the oppertunity.

What is so great about this game anyway?
I remember playing it back in the day and it did not seem that special.
If it is worth that much becuase a lot of people actually like it, you would think they would eventually release it on PSN for like $10-20 anyway. Otherwise, it is just another overrated rare game.

P.S. Reading into his comment, I think he is pissy about having a broken BC PS3 that is not cheap to fix/replace and I can understand after what I heard from my brother in law. He has a 60GB that the disc drive went out on and they wanted $200 to fix that model and send him the same one and $150 if he was to get a slim back. Either way, it is pretty shitty to have to pay that much just to fix a broken drive on a system that is less than 3 years old. He didn't get the 60GB until a few months after launch in Jan 07 I think. I think you will see more of this on these George Forman power hogs that are destined to fail, just on a longer timeline than the 360.(Finally putting "mine is made better than yours" PS3 fanboys in their place) They just don't make then like they used to folks. (My launch day PS2 still works fine other than some iffy DVD playback prob due to dust)

I might have been a bit harsh. That was douchey of me. Sorry Ace_Defective, that was cold. Thanks for understanding the point though, z24.

Anyway I look at it, I came out ahead and got what I needed/wanted when I needed/wanted it. Could I have gouged some guy? Sure could have.

More TIVs
Wii Remotes are 10.50 as of December 28th too. Down from $13.50

Nice response advanced. Original post was a little. It's definitely your choice what you do with your games and just some ones opinion of what they thought about it. Glad to see everyone getting along!

Honestly, this is the way that we find out about updated TIV. Someone out there has to trade in their "rare" games so we know how much GS gives for it. Some may do it because their copy isnt mint, maybe rental or someone's name is written on it, disk only, etc. Other times, they just dont want the hassle of going through all of the trouble of online selling.

did not realize till today if you trade in ds games without box they charge you a dollar refurb charge. i asked the old bitty working if i bought a game without the box was it a dollar cheaper and she said no. so i told her to give the games back, i went accross town and no charge for the same games. not bashing gs, i can see why so many due

Exactly. Also, a lot of times, people don't actually trade the games in. They find out what the TIV is, and they take the game back. Or they call and don't even bother going int. Can we just chill with the bitching about the TIVs and whether or not someone traded a game in for such a low TIV? We've now seen jp and a number of users say it's an issue. People are getting annoyed over it, and all that does is hurt this thread and the community.

YMMV. Some stores or employee try to tack-on a refurb fee when stuff is missing and others don't.

Would gamestop take a copy of MW2 that has been buffed out and works on occasion?(Obviously not telling them as such, it looks like newish.
Does anyone know if the Collector's Edition of DMC4 might be worth more than the regular edition?
It should be, the steelbook is kinda rare. Its not too sought after compared to some other games out there, but its sure worth more than its regular edition counterpart.

EDIT: If you're speaking about TIV wise, they'll probably count it as the same though

as long as when they hold it up near the light, theres no scratches that show through the topside/disc art, then they'll take it, no matter how many scratches there are, as long as they dont scratch thru the disc paint. (or obviously if its scuffed to complete shit they will turn you down, but even so i've had them take a few of those and mark em as refurbs)

Anyone know how the $20 off anything in the store deal works? It seems unlike other offers where you don't get added store credit but have to buy something at time of trade to use it.

Also, is it considered a Promotion that can't be combined with other offers (like the trade 3/4 get extra 10/20)?

Thanks and sorry if I totally missed this topic in another thread . . .

Just ask them to put it on your Edge card. They said I can look around and find something for $20 off, but I said I'd look.. walked around for a minute or two for any good deals, then told them "nah, just put it on my Edge card".
