FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and cut the trade-in value in half. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases made with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arkansas, California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Wisconsin, Virginia,

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has PSP/DS values.
I'm thinking about getting WET, Wolfenstein, and Dark Void online for a total of 68.11 with EDGE and the CAG16 coupon. Considering I traded in Gears of War 2, RE5, and L4D2, I think this is a win for me... But should I just wait for a B2G1 and if I should, when is this predicted to happen?
So you traded in 3 awesome games for enough credit to get 3 shitty ones? Wow gamestop is so awesome.
Traded the following today 2/26/10 - base TIVs listed.

Xbox 360
Console w\ wireless controller - $90
Wartech - $0.85
Bullet Witch - $1.75
Forza Motorsport 2, non PH version - $1.75
Ninja Gaiden 2 - $5.00
Two Worlds - $1.25
Sonic the Hedgehog - $3.50
Ridge Racer 6 - $1.00
Condemned - $2.50

With the 50% promo and the 10% EDGE bonus, two trips to GS with trade-ins netted me $199.57. I almost feel a little guilty trading in my old 360, as it was a launch unit that I had to get repaired by MS for RRoD issues. They took so long to repair it I ended up just buying a new Arcade unit with HDMI capabilities and Jasper motherboard. I posted on my first trade-in trip that the GS near me no longer accepted Gamecube items for trade-in or sale, was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem. After calling a few of the other GS stores around Baton Rouge I found the same to be true with a few other stores as well. I ended up sending my GCN trades to Amazon for $115.

Submitted updated prices to the database as well.
Does the 50% and edge work on the 360 hardware too? How did you get $199 out of it if it doesn't?

To trade in this crappy airplane engine sounding refurb xbox 360 for a new dsi or to hold on to it as a backup. That is thy question. That $30 bonus is pretty cool.
Updated lists and database.

"Y'all got on this boat for different reasons, but y'all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything, I know this - they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. So no more runnin'. I aim to misbehave."
Any opinions on Cop Out?

I just found two different copies of L4D2 on CL for $20/each. Negotiating with one guy atm, and hopefully the other guy will respond soon. Turning $40 into $95 would be epic win!

Just went to Gamestop, here are some base TIV:

:360: Left 4 Dead 2: $29.75

:360: Madden 10: $18.00

:ps3: Far Cry 2: $5.50

Total, I made $85.21 with the deal, but ended up with $70.22 because I purchased an Edge Card and the magazine. All in all, good day for me, considering I made $12 on L4D2 cause I only paid $35 for it. :D
Any opinions on Cop Out?
It almost seems as if it was shot twice or by two different people. Once by Kevin Smith and again by the studio. It just, had this really screwed up flow/feel.

Seems a bit fishy about these so-called "extra" 50% trade in values...

Bayonetta (360) $16.00
Bonus 8.00 promo
Bonus 1.60 edge
Total $25.60

God of War Collection $8.00
Bonus 4.00 promo
Bonus .80 edge
Total $12.80
For his first trip I'm only getting $63 doing the math of the games + 60% and the system and hardware + 10%.

I'm missing something here I think.
I traded in multiple memory cards and multiple dualshock 2 controllers, that's probably the cause for the discrepency.

Oh ok, that makes sense. That would explain the missing $18. I didn't realize you traded in multiples of some of the hardware.

Fallout 3: Game of the Year (360) - $18.00
Bonus 50% - $9.00
Edge Bonus - $1.80

TOTAL - $28.80

Borderlands (360) -$18.00
Bonus 50% - $9.00
Edge Bonus - $1.80

TOTAL - $28.80

Xbox 360 Arcade Comp Disc - $1.60
Assassin's Creed 2 - $15
Bioshock - $5

Off topic guys, but i see warhawk is only 13 bucks at GS. I was wondering, is it worth it? Do people actually play still? I know its really old, but i heard its good. I also know its MP only.
I am sorry if this post gets deleted but before anyone trades in any more DJ Heros (PS3) . I will give u more than GS will
If you know you're not supposed to post it, why did you post it?

I've got a question. This site is cheap ass gamer yet so many here trade in their games for peanuts ( for the most part) at GS instead of selling them on ebay for much more.

Wouldn't a real cheapassgamer want to get as much money for their games as possible...thus paying less for their next game?

Maybe this site should be re-named...

Lazyassgamer?

lol :)

I only trade at GS if it gets me more than what I payed or if they are offering more than what I can sell it for and that hasn't been very often.

I did trade a bunch of games I payed peanuts for to get FightNight 4 though.

Why in the world would you guys trade in Gears of War for $2 or RE5 for $5? Or other games for 18 cents and shit. WTF is wrong with you people?

Cool story bro.

The only one I'm trading in is a copy of L4D2 that I am paying $25 for tomorrow off CL, and I'll trade it in for $47.xx towards an SCC LE. That's saving the hassle of Ebay, and getting roughly the same amount if not more.

Is there a thread where people post what they are about to trade into GS, and people can stop them before they go by matching or going a few cents more than what GS gives?

I ask because I noticed someone traded in UC2 for $27!? That is beyond criminal, and I would've easily paid that person $30.

You're not the first person to ask this, and you're also not the first person to make your mistake. The problem with what you're saying is that $30 is not enough for them to actually make any kind of profit over trading it in to GameStop. You have to pay for the shipping and also make up for the fees one would lose by using PayPal. So, now you're looking at more $35+. Plus, no offense to you, but how do we know you (or anyone else) are not going to try and screw someone? It happens a lot. GS is a convenient way to get rid of your games without any hassle, which is why their TIVs are low. You're paying for convenience.

WOAH! $3 whole extra dollars? HOT DAMN!

That will definitely cover shipping, mailer, paypal fees!

And not to mention hassle!
With shipping costs (label and envelope), they'd only be making $27 if you paid them $30.
I didn't include shipping. Besides, that is just an example. I would've paypal-ed $35.00 shipped, no problem.

Gears for $4? Bioshock for $7.50? You guys made the perfect score!

You are a witty one! Does your mother put your printed CAG retorts on the fridge?

Anyways, I was being sincere w/the initial inquiry of wondering if there was such a thread.

If you're confident with amazon payments, you won't(or I haven't ran into them yet) get any fees from them, and mailing a game with delivery confirmation is like 2.50$ in the US. Not saying that 3 bucks is enough to cover the extra work, but maybe 5 or 6 would be.

I't not even that, it's whether you want to get your credit right away or deal with potentially getting scammed or a game lost in the mail or someone bitching at you cause your item isnt' mint.

Basically, depending on the value, it's so much easier to trade to gamestop for some games. It really is the price of convenience. It's like buying stuff at 7-11.

I can't stand people who say "why don't you sell on ebay.?!?!"

They just point to a completed listing and think that's what you get in your pocket. Do you even understand how much ebay takes in fees. And then paypal. Then you have to ship it. Then you have to worry about a chargeback if it's a scammer.

Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes it's not.
Have you guys used ebay before??? Shipping is charged separately.
have you? Video game listings usually include free shipping. People just bake it into the price of course but either way, ebay is not nearly as lucrative as you tihink it is.

With a game like Dante's Inferno, it's getting 25+12+2.50 at GS = ~40 and that's used.

You'd have to sell that on ebay for $50 to net $40. Now, go find me an ebay listing that a used Dante's inferno goes for $50 with shipping.

Found any yet? Ok, so bother will all that nonsense or just go to GS and drop it off?

I use ebay all the time and sell stuff on there. But with a promo like this, GS wins. And even if they don't win, a couple bucks is worth going to GS instead of worrying about it. Some people simply don't want to deal with the hassle of ebay, especially if their net gain is only a couple bucks. Is that so hard to understand?

Fair enough. Usually people include the shipping in their offer prices.

maybe you suck at selling stuff. Every single game i've sold on ebay has got me at 2x what gs would give. I'm talking about used games.

and if you weren't such an illiterate dumbass you'd have seen I was talking specifically about people who trade good games for afew dollars.

Way to make a smashing first impression on this thread!

Good post, and that was the best part. Unless you desperately need the games turned into cash, GS is often the best way to go when they have a great promo. You might loss a buck or two...you might even get a buck or two more...either way, you're in, you're out, and there is no issue. Nothing gets lost in the mail, nothing gets damaged in the mail, no scammer can lie, no moron can complain about a small cut on the manual, etc.

you quoted the wrong person.

Yep. And when I made my account I had to wait like 30 days until I could get the cash, which means I wouldn't have that money in time for FF13 and MLB.

Now, back to the topic because we all know that guys a moron.
