FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and cut the trade-in value in half. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases made with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arkansas, California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Wisconsin, Virginia,

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has PSP/DS values.

Is $15 the accurate price for Left 4 Dead 2? That seems awfully low for a game that is $60 even adding in that extra 50%.

Is trading in Rock Band 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 towards FFXIII a better deal?

yeah they had it for $29.75 pre bonus for like 2 and a half weeks until a few days ago when they dropped it to that.

also i think you would get slightly more for L4D2 with the 50% then the FF promo..although it would probably be better to wait it off and it might go up in value again

Traded in COD MW2 for $22 and Darksiders for $21.75 before bonus today, totally paid off my copy of FFXIII!!

Got a bunch of $5 Resident Evil 5's at Target and traded them in at Gamestop for $15 + 60% Not Bad.

made a nice little profit. Paid off Super Street Fighter IV and God of War 3, because each one gets you an Extra 25% Trade in Credit when reserved.

Its Not supposed to stack but the cool people at my Gamestop or Nationwide YMMv just say, you will Pre-order 2 more game (any 2)

In addition to GOW 3 and Splinter Cell, as long as you Stack the 60% + 25%

And they will.

(of course just canel the pre-orders a few weeks later)
Thought about trading in BC2 360 to pay off the PC version, waiting in hope that it'll increase.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 - $30 Base TIV
Considering the fact you'll get $48 for it with the current TIV promo of 50% more and EDGE 10% boost, I'd trade it in NOW since it's only gonna go DOWN from there.

What version of RE5 did you trade in to get 15 as the base value?

The reason the TIV plummeted is because people were flooding Gamestop with copies of LFD 2 because they could get almost $50 for it in trade. Also the game is going to be on sale for $40 in a couple of weeks at Gamestop.

No specific game trade deal is better than the 50%/60% right now.
If i trade in some games for in store credit, would i be able to put that credit on a gamestop gift card so i can use it online if i want?
yeah

Probably to early to ask, but anyone know the TIV for Deadly Prmonition? Bought it as a blind buy..and may have to return it. Its pretty bad. Though its so bad I kinda want to keep it. lol
**** I waited too long like a moron to trade in L4D2. Dammit!
+1
I was waiting until I finished Uncharted 2 this weekend before I traded them both in. Now if I'm only going to get about $50 for both I'm not sure if it's worth it.

I think I am going to bow out of trading to gamestop and only go there when they have the Buy 2 get 1 free sales. I went in this weekend and w/ 50% + 10% credit they are only giving 18 dollars for Bayonetta..... suffice to say I traded it in to Goozex and am now getting Star Ocean International.
Edited: Removed the incorrect amount, sorry for the mix up. :(
Er, so I'm guessing that BFBC2 is still at $25 then?

Anyone know what I can get for an Xbox 360 elite? I know the op says like 90 for core unit, but does anyone know if I would get more since it is an elite? I really wanna upgrade to the 250 GB FF13 xbox bundle.

$30 extra toward trade in on new system and the hard drive trades in extra.
check the other thread. it's in the first post
This was posted in regards to someone asking about the 25% bonus coupon for trading in accessories.

What exactly is the "other" thread?

EDIT: Nevermind, found it. It was the GS weekly ad thread.

yesterday traded in
Punch Out 19
New york Fashion ds 9.50, (its the wifes)
with bonus wound up being 42.00 even much higher than i was hoping for:applause:
If i trade in some games for in store credit, would i be able to put that credit on a gamestop gift card so i can use it online if i want?
you can use your edge card balance online just like a gift card.. no need to buy a gift card in the store
$25?! What a fucking joke!
Not really. It's $40 with the bonuses. More than you'll get anywhere else. Still hoping it goes up $5.
Would they take not for resale barcodes? I got a LittlebigPlanet GOTY and I hate that game. Came with my PS3
Yes they will.
Would they take not for resale barcodes? I got a LittlebigPlanet GOTY and I hate that game. Came with my PS3
Yeah they will, but not sure how much they give even for the GOTY version so you may want to look at other options like eBay or Goozex.

I traded mine (same situation as you) at Goozex for 1000 points back in January. Anyway I never even broke the seal on that game cause it didn't look like anything that I would even remotely enjoy.

Edit: If the OP is still correct at $24 base then go with GS all the way. That would be $36 without edge and $38.40 with edge (I swear the base was nowhere near that when I wanted to trade it in)
Traded in Heavy Rain last night, it was $25 before 50% and edge.
I hope the base TIV on this goes up before the 14th since I have seen everything there is to see got 100% of the trophies. (amazon is still at 40.50 so not too worried about it going down)

Updated lists and database. Had a couple PM's that were not base values so I'm going to work on bring those down to base.

im really contemplating trading in my MW2 Hardened Edition to get the credit for BFBC2...but i'm pretty sure i could easily fetch $40-42 paypal by selling it to some guy on here...also have Far Cry 2 and Beatles RB i could part with

I'm going to try to trade in LBP GOTY later tonight. Hopefully the base has held so I'll at least get back most of what I paid for it. Post back later with my findings. Anyway, god that game is so boring. Not sure how it won so many accolades.

My opinion is that it's innovative and fun. Each to his own I guess.

I checked the BF:BC2 tiv today for ps3.. $25

With the way values have been flip flopping, better chance of Battlefield Bad Company 2 TIV going up or down? I'm hoping it shoots up to $30.

Edit: Oops, wrong thread!

Although I am trading some stuff with this promotion tomorrow, I'll try to add some updated values when I return from doing so.

Hell I'm trading My Madden 10 and Tales Of Vesperia for 40 off of GOW3 I paid 34 for Tales and 29 for madden so If I get forty and the tax from 40 off of final price thats like 44. Not bad at all I played both games a ton.

Base TIV's March 8 2010:

:360:
Halo 3: ODST - $24.75 :)hot: That means with promo and Edge I got $39.61!!!)

:Wii:
Super Mario Galaxy - $15($24 with promo and Edge)

Went in to trade these toward the FFXIII for $20 promo, and the Bases were higher than the promo. So I got FFXIII for $1.33 and two games I don't play.

Better double check that ODST base value. I call BS that it went up almost $10 in 2 days

Hey, does anyone have a TIV for Halo Reach? (j/k)
I just think it is funny that you want to know about trading it in before it is even released.

I traded in the official PS3 Bluetooth headset today(from Endwar bundle):

Base TIV-$18($24.30 after 25% promo coupon and EDGE)

Not bad I suppose, but I would've much rathered cash, if only they didn't take 20% off for taking cash.
